genuinely, thank you. like it's so insane to see people come up with all kinds of explanations for why americans support evil policies they do and then you come across one of these peoples' social media accounts and they're cheering on evil things happening. they want the evil policies, they just don't want to be personally harmed by them. i'm so sick of people finding ways to deny racists their agency in making evil decisions meant to hurt poc on purpose because they don't like that it's true lol

Like white American reactionaries are not guileless or tricked into voting for evil. A lot of people choose to do that over and over again. Even if you were somehow misinformed or tricked, you still decided to do that and like every other person on earth are responsible for what you say and do. A lot of white people are willing to vote against their own economic or political interests to make sure that people of color have a worse life and this has been true for hundreds of years.

I guess we all want to believe the best in others and absolve ourselves of guilt but sometimes the answer to “why do Americans act in stupid and racist ways and support evil policies” is not some uniquely American systemic issue about the education system or lack of opportunities to travel abroad or economic anxiety. It’s that many Americans choose to be ignorant and racist on purpose.
