1937 Talbot-Lago T150-C SS ‘Goutte d’Eau’ Coupé by Figoni et Falaschi
Chassis number 90110, offered here, is one of only two examples of the fabulous ‘Goutte d’Eau’ built by Figoni et Falaschi with fully enclosed front fenders—a feature more often seen on the company’s Delahaye designs of this period. The finished car left Talbot on 25 November 1937 carrying body number 677 and was identical to the body mounted earlier that year on chassis number 90107, the famous and widely photographed Goutte d’Eau that belonged to Princess Stella of Karputhala.

In 1934, Belgian coach-builder Jonckheere modified the 1925 Rolls Royce Phantom I and produced what is now called the Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe. In 2012, Dutch design firm Ugur Sahin updated the Jonckheere - these are the results. The aesthetics bridge two centuries and the effect is astounding. In an alternate historical 1930s, who is lucky enough to drive one?

Delahaye 177 RS, 1938, by Figoni and Falaschi. Part of the The Shape of Speed: Streamlined Automobiles and Motorcycles, 1930–1942 exhibition at the Portland Art Museum that will open on June 16.
Photo: Scott Williamson/photodesignstudios.com. Joseph Figoni and Ovidio Falaschi, renowned Paris-based coachbuilders throughout the classic era, were noted for their swoopy, elegant custom coachwork in the mid-to-late 1930’s. Often described as ‘Paris gowns on wheels’ or ‘rolling sculpture,” Figoni & Falaschi’s luscious creations won numerous Concours d’Elegance. The carrosserie’s exclusive clientele included royal notables. It’s believed 11 of these Salon de Paris, pontoon-fendered roadsters were built on long and short Delahaye chassis.
