it's giving “we have decided to go our separate ways 😔 but we still have a lot of love for each other and are united in raising our beautiful daughter Jo 🥰”
love that MUNAs best known for an anthem about lesbian joy but hate that they aren't just as well known for the Most lesbian thing about them which is that the lead singer collaborated on a break up song with the ex the song was about

I low-key love the fact that sci-fi has so conditioned us to expect to be hanging out with a bunch of cool space aliens, that legitimate, actual scientists keep proposing the most bizarre, three-blunts-into-the-rotation "theories" to explain the fact we're not.
Some of my favourites include:
Zoo Theory: What if there are loads of aliens out there, but they're not talking to us because of the Prime Directive from Star Trek? (Or because they're doing experiments on us???)
Dark Forest Theory: What if there are loads of aliens out there, but they all hate us and each other so they're all just waiting with a shotgun pointed at the door, ready to open fire on anything that moves?
Planetarium Theory: What if there's at least one alien with mastery over light and matter that's just making it seem to us that the universe is empty to us as, like, a joke?
Berserker Theory: What if there were loads of aliens, but one of them made infinite killer robots that murdered everyone and are coming for us next?!!
Like, the universe is at least 13,700,000,000 years old and 46,000,000,000 light years big. We have had the ability to transmit and receive signals for, what, 100 years, and our signals have so far travelled 200 light years?
The fact is biological life almost certainly has, does, or will develop elsewhere in the universe, and it's not impossible that a tiny amount of it has, does, or will develop in a way that we would understand as "intelligent". But, like, we're realistically never going to know because of the scale of the things involved.
So I'm proposing my own hypothesis. I call it the "Fool in a Field" hypothesis. It goes like this:
Humanity is a guy standing in the middle of a field at midnight. It's pitch black, he can't move, and he's been standing there for ages. He's just had the thought to swing his arms. He swings one of his arms, once, and does not hit another person. "Oh no!" He says. "Robots have killed them all!"

I think we should write more straight relationships with 2010s TV queerbait tactics. Let that man and that woman's lives be horribly intertwined, let them take bullets for the other, let them be each other's meaning but NO KISSING. They are holding each other platonically. You're crazy for reading anything romantic into it at all tbh

i do think theres something sad about how largely only the literature that's considered especially good or important is intentionally preserved. i want to read stuff that ancient people thought sucked enormous balls

I have a deep love-hate relationship with HOTD. I was thinking about it again today because of the Emmys, where the series only won a single award for "Outstanding Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes".
I really love HOTD emotionally - mainly because some of the characters make me feel THINGS.
However, thinking rationally, this series is bad. The script looks like it was written by ten different people with polar views on the plot and different visions of what they need to get in the end. Everyone changes their character to the opposite in each episode. The motivation is unclear, and the actions are illogical. The idea of timeskips is awful for the narrative, and it's better not to remember what they did with the original story from the books at all. And yes - the costumes are bad too, they are made cheaply and lazily (maybe one day I will make a big post about them). At the same time, the series has a huge potential that is completely unused and it hurts me. So, every time HOTD doesn't take the award again, I'm happy, because I really want the creators to finally stop and think about what they are doing wrong.

academic bias is so funny because you’ll be reading about the same historical event and one person is like “Despite the troubles that befell his homeland and near constant criticism of the court King Blorbo remained strong in the face of adversity” and the other one is like “after letting his people carry the brunt of his cringefail decisions Blorbo the Shitface refused to listen to any reason and continued to be a warmongering piece of shit. Also he was ugly.”

need the asoiaf fandom folks to explain 2 me real quick why y'all are so lenient on male characters who do some fucked horrid shit and bunch of mistakes in this series but cannot afford the same lenience of "greyness" towards female characters

The whole point of tragedy is the inevitability of it, in the face of the attempts to change the ending. This is why Rhaenyra and Alicents desire to avoid it is being emphasised repeatedly. Personally I feel hotd overall is more of a Shakespearen tragedy, but it does have an strong element of the Greek. Not least in the fact that the characters, in some way, already know how this ends. Alicent knows her children will die. Rhaenyra knows her children will die. Subconsciously, they know it. Helaena truly knows, she can see it, but she's misunderstood and ignored, like Cassandra.
There's a prophecy - it's misinterpreted - our morally questionable protagonists desperately try to avoid the inevitable - they end up with the bloodiest possible outcome. This is tragedy in its purest form. Lean into it. In fact, with almost every element the writers added that wasn't in the original text, you can boil the decision down to 'they did it because it makes the story more tragic.'
Feel terrible for the fans of hotd who can't just enjoy rhaenicent for what it is I hope you see the light

HI! Since you are the Rhaenicent captain ship ,may i ask you how you feel about the brothel queens thing? (not tryna to be rude ,genuinely curious) Btw love your posts
Thank you! Um honestly... my thoughts on this are pretty concise: I don't think it happened and don't like to give it much thought. To me it's implied it was mushroom being mushroom (yet again). Gyldayn states there's 'no credence' to it and says he believes it was a story that was created later - on the streets of King's Landing maybe. Or made up by the Greens to further justify their later actions against Rhaenyra and her line. The guys definitely not infallible but I like to think he's correct here, just for my own peace.
I don't think it will be in the show. If it is I think that would be my final straw tbh, I'd be switching it off and never looking back. It would be character assassination for Rhaenyra, and add nothing to the plot. Because as if this version of Rhaenyra would allow this? Even in the book she treated Alicent and Helaena with relative respect as far as I could see, and Rhaenyra in the show is a slightly softer version of herself overall. They'd have to turn her totally callous to carry this out, and I don't think that would play well with the audience or aid the story.
