something that always pulls me out of a story is when characters start verbally explaining their motivation out of nowhere, in a way that seems unnatural. it won't ruin a whole episode or show for me, but it reminds me that I'm watching something artificial when I want to just enjoy the story. doing it through inner monologue makes much more sense

I've just watched episode 2 of moriarty the patriot. in it, the protagonist said that the british class system is responsible for creating devils. his proposed solution isn't to destroy the class system that creates the devils, but only to kill the bad people themselves. actually solving the cause of the problem would be the effective solution to work towards, otherwise, the class system will only create new devils. I suppose we can't expect an anime to advocate for systemic change though
