I'm very tired of the age difference = power imbalance or abuse discourse, for many reasons, but the big one that's bugging me today is that no one ever argues on behalf of it for good reasons. It's always "it's not inherently abusive", which is true, and "sometimes people connect anyway, despite the difference", which is also true, but it's never "the older person can teach the younger person valuable life lessons, and none of it has to do with abuse or power imbalances."
When I was 19-21, I dated a guy 28-30, and he taught me how to properly drive a stick shift because I was grinding my clutch too much. He taught me how to make a mexican pizza. He taught me how to format the hard drive on my computer. He taught me how to find a helmet that fit me properly. After we broke up, because he moved away and we didn't want to do Long Distance, we stayed friends for many more years, and he kept teaching me stuff. "Carrie, that guy's a creep, and here's all the things you're ignoring about him." "DO NOT trust cops, trust me because I'm an ex-cop, those guys are assholes. *continues to list off all the ways to stay out of trouble with cops." How to use a bong, how to give a guy multiple orgasms, how to make electronic music, how to how to how to. He's the one who relentlessly urged me to go to college until I finally got past my fear and did it.
When he called me and I told him I had a new boyfriend, he congratulated me and told me he hoped this new guy would be better for me than he was. I have been with New Guy for 20 years now, and ex-boyfriend still calls me once in a while to check in and make sure I'm okay.
Older lovers, like older friends, can be an incredibly positive impact on your life. Don't be afraid of them. Just know how to watch for the signs that they're not good for you.

I think it's funny that the #1 reason people think Tommy is a bad boyfriend to Buck is because he's sarcastic and is fluent in dry humor.
To people my age, that's hot af

the way the theme of home and tommy being buck’s home as been following them since season seven with “come home and be with your man”…..his loft becoming more lived-in when he was with tommy….the closest he came to finding a sense of “home” after moving out of the loft was after a night spent with tommy….how they have yet to find their way back to each other and buck still has yet to find home…..
