the thing about propaganda is that it doesn't require a bunch of people to sit around rubbing their hands together going "muahaha we will deceive the masses with our evil propaganda!" and in fact it tends to be better and more convincing the more people involved don't conceptualize what they're doing as in any way propagandistic

Decided to draw a little comic. Thought of the idea of a little trans deerguy getting stoked about tiny antler nubs and thought I’d share.
Idea sparked by roachpatrol’s post.

Hello Tom, I'm a new reader of this blog and this little space has been quite a motivation source for me :) May I ask what good books about anatomy and histology can you recommend? Thank you very much!
Thanks for your feedback and support. I used Gray’s Anatomy when I went through medical school but there are other choices out there like Frank Netter’s Atlas of Human Anatomy, or Grant’s Dissector. I used Netter’s Histology when I went through histology class.

Artist Transforms Found Books Into Sparkling Crystallized Sculptures
Books contain fantastical stories, vast histories, and profound knowledge. However, with the predominance of e-books, it’s easy to forget about the physical form of novels. San Francisco-based artist Alexis Arnold has spent 9 years exploring the malleability of printed media by transforming them into glittering, crystallized sculptures.
“My Crystallized Books Series addresses the materiality versus the text or content of the book,” Arnold explains to My Modern Met. She warps the pages and covers of books with water, then applies a borax solution to grow crystals all over the book—freezing it in place and rendering it nonfunctional. “The crystals remove the text and solidify the books into geological sculptures,” she continues.

Highway 1 California: The Dream Along the Pacific, book, borax, 12 x 17.5 x 11 inches, 2021

Decoded (by Jay-Z), book, borax, 16 x 9 x 10 inches, 2018

In the Shade of Vines, book, borax, 19.5 x 4 x 12 inches, 2016

Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Rocks and Minerals, book, borax, 8.75 x 7.75 x 6 inches, 2019
Arnold has manipulated famous books such as To Kill a Mockingbird, Moby Dick, and The Three Musketeers, as well as reference texts like the Smithsonian Nature Guide: Rocks and Minerals. Each book’s unique characteristics—cover, page number, illustrations—are emphasized when it is congealed by the borax solution. Some sculptures appear more colorful and flamboyant, others are unwieldy with stacks of hardened pages.
“Books hold a great significance as objects, stories, teachings, memories, and more, so they were ripe for investigation with the process of crystal growth I’d been exploring on different objects,” Arnold says. She was prompted to begin the series in 2011, during the surge of e-books. During this time, the artist came across dozens of abandoned paperbacks and hardcovers and used them as experiments for the effects of crystal growth. Arnold realized that the process transformed books—which are valuable in their reusability—into purely decorative, aesthetic artifacts. Instead of illuminating text and great stories, these geological sculptures contain a “history of time, use, and memories.” Arnold’s series equalizes renowned titles and defunct phone books as inoperative, beautiful objects.

To Kill A Mockingbird, book and borax, 9.5 x 7.25 x 5 inches, 2017

Moby Dick (Abridged Edition), book, borax, 6.5 x 6 x 8.25 inches, 2019

The Three Muskeeters, book, borax, 8 x 10 x 9 inches, 2018

Smithsonian Nature Guide: Rocks and Minerals, book, borax, 9.5 x 8.5 x 6 inches, 2019

The Science of Wine: From Vine to Glass, 10.5 x 9 x 11 inches, 2016

Anatomical Works Sculpted in Crystal and Glass
Santa Fe-based sculptor and jewelry designer Debra Baxter combines glass, bronze, crystal, wood, and found objects to create ghostly sculptures of human forms.
For many of her recent works Baxter shares with Roq Larue Gallery that she drew inspiration from the phenomenon of the “Ghost Heart.” In this medical procedure, a heart is cleansed of all of its blood cells and then injected with hundreds of millions of new blood steam cells which cause the heart to begin beating again. Baxter is interested in how this concept explores the complexity of existence, walking the line between life and death.

types of study breaks for every situation
if you realize you’ve been studying for hours: grab a snack to refuel your body and watch a sitcom to refuel your brain. then back to the books.
if you’re feeling stressed out: take some deep breaths, text your friends, maybe stare at a wall for a few minutes. gather yourself.
if you can’t seem to focus: get moving and get outside. take out the garbage, check your mail box, maybe walk your dog. just get moving and get fresh air. it’ll help bring you back.
if there’s something else going on in your life and you can’t get it off your mind: write down what’s going through your head, sort of like a diary entry. it’ll help you work things out.
if you’re just mentally and physically exhausted: set a timer for 25-30 minutes and take a nap. any longer and you’ll hit REM and you’ll wake up feeling just as tired. once you wake up, get some caffeine in you.
if the material is boring as hell: find another way to study. see if there’s a crash course video online about it or draw out what you’re trying to learn in diagrams and pictures to make it fun.
if people around you won’t shut up: listen to some music. soundtrack and classical music is always good because they won’t absorb you as much as music with lyrics. white noise (like ocean waves, rain sounds, etc.) also works.
if you only half understand a concept: call/message a friend who’s not in the class and try to teach the material to them. this will help you mentally work through the material and will help you remember it as well.

Hello everyone!!
So with covid forcing most universities to switch to online instruction, a lot of incoming freshman as well as current students aren't going to be on campus. With this in mind I thought it could be fun to make a uni studyblr directory!!
Basically if you would like to participate please reblog this and add your university (or country/state if you're more comfortable with that), your major, and your year in the tags!! In a few days I will compile everyone's info into a large directory and masterpost. Feel free to participate if you are in undergrad or grad school!! This is really just for fun and to allow you guys to connect to people in your area/major!!
Tldr: making a uni directory reblog with major, year, and uni to participate

tips for when you are in a period of high stress
set priorities and reduce your overall activity
Whenever you’re facing more stress than usual, try to reduce your activities, set priorities, and focus on short-term goals. However, try to not avoid activity all together. This is difficult, because the way you think about tasks changes dramatically when you are stressed. Try your best to stop during times of high stress and ask yourself “What really needs to be done now? What can I let go until some other time?”
Also, try to recognise that you only have a limited amount of energy - you can’t push yourself too hard - and remember to take time to rest and take care. Stress drains your energy more, so try to be mindful of that.
spend extra time with decisions
Stress interferes with your ability to think. The greater the stress, the more likely it is that you will make poor decisions. Wherever possible, avoid making major decisions during times of stress. But, when a decision does have to be made, try to take more time with it, and talk to people about it who are objective - they may see problems or options you didn’t think off because of your reduced ability to do so while being stressed.
plan ahead and take actions during times when stress is low
A lot of the time, you know when a period of stress is coming. When that is the case, try to take some time to plan ahead, make decisions, and take action in advance while you’re feeling better - this reduces the amount of thinking you’ll need to worry about during a period of high stress. Having a plan helps you to focus and prioritise tasks.
For those times when a period of high stress may come suddenly, try to take some time out to relax and collect yourself, so you’re able to plan ahead and prioritise. This can be difficult, so it’s okay if you can’t. Just being mindful of how your body and mind can be affected by stress can help you through.
some gentle reminders for if you are stressed
take a moment to breathe; close your eyes, put whatever you are doing down, and count slowly to ten
take a break if you’ve been working for a long time on something
write a list of what you need to do, and then slowly put the tasks into order of priority
take some time out of your day to relax and unwind to the best of your ability
try your best to not push yourself past your limits
reach out for help if you need to
you can do this
i believe in you
it’ll be okay

One thing I love about tumblr is, here bloggers try their best to spread news about all the shits that keep happening around the globe (BLM, Yemen crisis, Phillippines Anti Terrorist Bill, Polish LGBT education ban just to name a few).
These encouraged me to draw attention to news that have been circulating on Instagram but surprisingly found no one to talk about it here in tumblr. The matter itself is alarming and I feel we should be more vocal about it. For your reference I attached some Instagram links which contain the details, go ahead and check them out.
To give you the picture of this whole shenanigans of global fashion brands that are threatened by this campaign and collective rage of angry hashtags, western brands such as Kohl's, ASOS have canceled product orders from their Asian (Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Cambodia, Vietnam etc) suppliers. Not only that, these brands (Gap, Arcadia, Primark, Walmart, Fashion Nova, Kendall + Kylie etc, you can find the whole list in venetialamanna's instagram post) are refusing to pay for the in-process goods which is resulting in forced shut down of factories. A major portion of these unemployed workers are women often having no government protection, are even forced to work at rates below living standards (see giving fashion for more details). It's just an irony how Kylie Jenner posted her support for BLM on her social media but her companies are refusing to pay the workers in Bangladesh (where most of the workers are brown women). Not only that, she even went on her way to delete those comments where people used the #PayUp hastag and called her and her sister out. Like bitch, what matters most to you is being a billionaire where you don't give a fuck about the workers whom you're depriving of their rights?
FUCK YOU Kendall + Kylie!
FUCK YOU Cardie B, Diddy, celebrities, fast fashion brands who've bloods on your clothing lines.
Wanna hear a joke? A lot of these brands are even giving sales on their clothes where behind the scene they've millions of dollars yet to pay up and for them people are starving.
This is a small blog but I will request you to spread the words. Please try-
Use the hastag #PayUp on your socials, email the brands, flood them with hashtags

Spread the words, reblog, attack them with #PayUp hashtags everywhere. Kylie, Kendall and these global brands cannot get away without paying up.
