i’m roadtripping so i can’t join the townposting as much as i wish i could but i CAN remind everyone of THIS post that hurts so good from 2015 hehe

I know we’re all in distress, but consider this:

Consider the way that Peter filmed not just Balthazar, but also Freddie and Ben, and those girls they met up with, and the town of Wellington. Consider the close-ups of Fred’s face in the sparkly tunnel. Consider Ben’s face while he took that phone call (presumably to or from Bea). Consider the moments that Peter considered worth capturing.

Consider that even though he’s in a worrisome place (and in denial about it), Peter Donaldson LOVES his friends. Wholehearted, spell-it-with-fireworks, “if I loved you less I could talk about it more” LOVES them.

tcw characters just feel so…..realized? and consistent? you watch costa in “looking for angels, devils, and doctor faustus” and you think about jaquie, whose main motivations throughout the series seem to be 1) do it for the plot i.e. seek out entertainment and hilarity wherever it exists and 2) support peter, and therefore, despite her overall aloofness, it just makes so much sense that she would continue to choose to spend time with this absolutely ridiculous guy. he’s like a human car crash so of course she would be drawn to him like a moth to a flame

TAPAS is such a fucking Video. opens on balthazar peak yearner boy knocking on peter's closed door. camera in colander moment for another Wild Freds moment (and again, crazy invasions of privacy all abound!!). peter looking directly at the camera and making the judicial decision to Not Care About It. BEN'S STACK OF TOAST. TAPAS ARE NOT REAL FOOD. WHO WERE THESE PEOPLE. I'M BORED OF THIS CONVERSATION NOW

it's so interesting to see the evolution in how and why balthazar posts song videos. we all know he does it as this weird half public half secret love declaration, but i think 'running mad' is an attempt to purge something instead (which is ofc reflected in the song). he wrote it in january, felt unsure about it, maybe wrote it while following all his frustrations, but not feeling that those feelings were representative. now it's august, and it still feels true, and he just wants to get it out. "i better just get over it" he says, and i think that's genuinely true, this is him actually establishing a new beginning (unlike new beginnings). possibly he doesn't post any of these things for anyone, he just has a genuinely wentzian urge to experience his emotions publically, which is so interesting considering he's such a quiet private guy, it's like this shout to remind himself that he actually exists. can anyone hear him!!!

oh i forgot to mention this before but i think it’s notable that, in “vacuuming,” peter doesn’t learn that there’s a camera filming him until after his conversation about going to town with balth. balth knows it’s filming from the beginning, pete does not

ding ding ding! @galwithalibrarycard pointed out that, in nmtd, we’re told that meg’s nickname is “margaret, the queen of scream” and, well. is it any wonder why she’d be wanting to distance herself from that now? bad memories

question for the class: what’s up with the margaret/meg thing? it comes up multiple times in lolilo, so it can’t just be a throwaway joke, right? but i’m not sure what the significance of it is. other than lolilo generally having a lot to say about identity. but why meg?? meg’s arc doesn’t really have anything to do with that stuff

lol meg in hypocritical is the embodiment of all those comments and posts clowning on ben and bea for explicitly telling us that what they learned from the events of nmtd was to communicate better and then not doing that during lolilo

like you might think it's hard to play gay chicken when you mutually know you're both gay/queer and have acknowledged this out loud. beep beep WRONG. gay people have perfected gay chicken on intricate higher levels than you could possibly imagine. i know this because it happened to my friend balthazar jones.
