☆ ⁛ ⁚ ⁛  with dark shadows under his eyes, emerson typed on the laptop slowly before dozing off again in study hall. carlson’s death was the topic of everyone’s conversation and, despite his efforts, he couldn’t ignore them. as if he wasn’t already guilty enough for aiding levi but now he had to deal with the memories when somebody brings it up. the whole ordeal sent him into a frenzy consisting of uncontrollable tears and isolation, more so than ever before. as he huffed and slammed his laptop shut, he strolled to the exit. as soon as he did so, he plopped his body on a bench nearby and sighed loudly. “ what if- ” he mumbled longingly.

     UNLIKE the rest of the students, alina seemed to be one of the only few people that didn’t feel like crap. and she was one of the few people not talking about carlson’s death. maybe because she’d always felt on the edge of everything. she mainly just didn’t want to mess up her future. alina wouldn’t be like her parents. she’d be a shoulder for people to cry on or an ear to listen to, but she didn’t know if she wanted to be involved in anything. alina looked at emerson as he sat on the bench next to her. she couldn’t read his mood, but she’d do her best to brighten it if she could. “what if marvel stopped making movies? i think that... every day.”

    AS Alina replied, Justine couldn’t help but sink slightly inwards as she crossed her arms over her chest loosely. She left like a complete idiot, if she was going to pull of acting like nothing ever happened last night, jumping at people in libraries wasn’t going to achieve that. It was only a few seconds, but it felt like forever before Justine finally forced a smile upon her face and brought a hand up to wave off the other’s comment. “Don’t apologise.” she started, “I’m not completely with it today, last night really did a number on me.” She paused for another moment as she glanced at the books on the shelves before focusing back upon Alina. “Trying to find a book for Sociology class, but I think someone else must of taken it out, I can’t find it anywhere. I guess I don’t have to ask what you’re doing here, I wish I had your dedication.”

     ALTHOUGH alina liked school more than most people did, also did like to have fun. she just put her schooling first. so she wasn’t into the party scene and had never been one of the popular people -- she didn’t care if people liked her or not. and she wasn’t afraid to be herself. sometimes she still felt like the new kid. sometimes she didn’t feel like she fit in. school was a way for her to not to feel like a freak. she smiled at her friend. “do you want to talk or... i mean we could go do something besides standing around in the library looking for books.” she smiled. “yeah. maybe you can ask when it’ll be back or find a copy online?” she looked at the books. “i don’t think it’s dedication to not want to be a fuck up like my parents.”

To say she was on edge was an understatement, after everything that had happened last night it was amazing she had even gathered herself up enough to get dressed and leave her dorm. But normality, or at least something close to it, was something she needed to stick to. Everything was fine, everything was going to be fine. At least she had Carlson’s death as an excuse to fall back on if she acted out of the ordinary, it wouldn’t exactly be a lie then. Even if the mere thought of him brought a sickness to her stomach. 

With her fingers tugging at the sleeve of her jumper, Justine moved through the lines of the library bookcases—after deeming it one of the safest places to be right now—her eyes scanning the shelves mindlessly. Though as she rounded another corner, the sudden appearance of a figure in front of her, caused her to jump backwards. Her hand flying up to press against her chest, trying to calm her hammering heart. “Jesus, fuc—You scared the hell out of me.” So much for acting normal.

     NORMALLY alina didn’t give a damn about the rest of the drama in town, but some things she just couldn’t stay away from. people said that there was drama in politics, but it was nothing like the drama of a small town. alina had concerned herself with her own business recently. it was really difficult to ignore this drama though. the whole death... that was weird. and while she didn’t think it wasn’t something she needed to concern herself, she couldn’t help but notice how many people cared and were upset. alina just didn’t know what else to do about any of this. 

     ALINA spent most of her time in the library because she wanted to get into law school. and school was important to her -- along with the truth. she was scanned the shelves for something that might be entertaining. there wasn’t anything, but she did spot justine. “sorry. didn’t mean to scare you. what are you doing?”

there’s a hangover lingering in his system, and there’s no way he could deny it — bags under his eyes and an obvious stench of beer reeking from his body. LEVI brings his paper cup of coffee up to his lips, takes an overly obnoxious sip from it — all before opening his mouth. ‘ i think i’m still drunk. ’

     ALINA wasn’t the drinking type -- or the partying type for that matter. so unlike the masses of students that had woken up with a hangover, she’d just woken up. the blonde spent a lot of time in coffee shops just for the coffee. “that sounds like a personal problem,” she said, looking over at the obnoxious sipper.
