“Portrait of J.C.”, graphite on paper, 2020. These drawings are the beginning of an exploration between the ”performative self” and the “actual self.” While those selves overlay tightly with some, they may vary greatly in others. The act of sitting for a drawing or portrait is an exercise in directed isolation. The artist eventually fades and the sitter becomes alone with themselves.
