a volume worth skipping if I could

it's the Jasleen and Dani show basically

like you can tell bc you get a couple gem scenes with your LI and the other guy is certainly there but he's not even fighting for MC anymore. wlw routes I don't think got much aside from I get one clip of Irena at movie night, and Nathan got maybe two lines the whole volume. And rip anyone on a boy bestie route all it is is more reason to be annoyed at him oml

Josh also randomly joins the hate train, I assume to remind everyone he's still there. he could just end as the boring couple with keziah/the female LI you don't like for wlw route people but no he has to be annoying

but anyway starts with the fight in the bedroom which tbh I didn't even remember was where last volume ended lol but Darin once again does not have my back, the so called bestie? like I've spent more time mad at him than being his friend and once again the problem with fusebox's writing and lack of non romantic/chill scenes is that the only basis for Darin and mc being friends is day one Darin saying "and now we're friends"

highlight was the mean girls fighting like they were ganging up on mc last episode so I'm glad this is broken up. thank god one of them is getting dumped next volume though (I HOPE)

I forgot about the whole secret reveal gimmick of this season and this volume really cemented for me that it's such a bad idea and has nothing to do with the love island part of it, like does fusebox know they bought the rights to love island and don't need to keep trying to reinvent the wheel?

anyway if we're comparing the two of them, I at least understand why Dani doesn't like MC, but Jasleen is just trying to get attention. like I wish she did more one liners just so I could be like oh she's trying to be like li uk s9's Olivia who kinda just was there to be a personality, it feels like, and trying to get her viral moments

It would've been nice to switch up the mean girl act, like have jasleen be fake nice to MC and movie night reveal her beach hut clips where she calls MC her competition and some of the rumors she's been telling Darin about MC, and then have that be the moment Darin decides to apologize to MC instead of randomly in the middle of license to swill. and then I guess keep Dani as mean because she's trying to scare MC away from gryff.

I know fusebox doesn't want too much heat on the loyal route which is why they tend to make him boring and only personality traits into MC, but I think it would've been fun if he had a (non gem choice) clip where he says to Dani like day one of casa that he can tell they are most compatible because of how much they have in common and that he is willing to give her a shot, because that would go against what he's been saying to MC post casa that he never entertained the idea. I feel like he could easily be like yeah but he and MC were so new and not closed off yet, and after the next day it was so clear to him he wanted MC and that he told Dani as soon as he realized. maybe like Nathan or Irena can corroborate too, but I just think it'd be nice to have something in movie night directly affect how MC feels about a LI instead of just clips of Matt and Gryff saying how much they like MC bc that's boring.

the worst movie night clip was for sure Darin using the same lines on the casa girls, like oh my god absolute ick if you're on his route

second though was probably Rosalie making out with kami at the sleepover villa, but I think she and Archie can make it and that's why I'm so upset they didn't get voted

you know what really helps with this volume is switching up your opinion on the guys between last week and this week bc then I am trying to justify my reasoning for switching on Matt all of a sudden 😅

point being, I liked this volume enough, but I think that's like 75% in my head

Nathan you can't just not follow the rules with the letter game like why didn't he say anything after MC read his letter and we're all just moving on (for drama bc I guess fusebox doesn't think we can retain that info long enough or smth)

lowkey Dani is so right for the Matt deserves better comment (at least in my game lol like maybe different if you're on a Matt route) but she's like rude about all her comments and it's getting annoying. I do wish she was nicer to you if you pick nice options or don't bother her but alas fusebox has forgotten how to branch

I kinda expected kami to leave at the sleepover bc I didn't think they were gonna give us a new casa girl but it would've been nice at least for a volume or two bc it's weird he's just at the sleepover villa and disappears and no one gets to say goodbye (like when Anna and Zac left all of a sudden s11). but I think that's like how we don't have many friendships with the other islanders in the villa and it's less fleshed out than in s2,, or even in s4, so even the goodbyes are hollow or nonexistent

I am glad he doesn't have beef with Rosalie, like yeah every now and then there's two people that were in a couple and bring back casa people they vibe better with and there's no drama so that's chill, and Archie is getting less annoying and acknowledging he was messy so I guess that's something

I don't understand jasleen's beef with MC unless in a few episodes she's gonna explain she was so mean because she's backing her fellow casa girl Dani, or more likely a confession that Darin obviously likes MC and she was jealous

rip yall on a boy bestie route though, but like lowkey I'm kinda glad he said they should be just friends and I'm gonna be mad if/when he goes back on that too many people are into MC and she's kinda just there

I really didn't understand the double dating thing that was happening all I got was that jasleen was really bossy, which is fine i guess shes the antagonist/new Tori, except Darin says they really click? like give them at least a volume to show they like each other and actually fit and not just immediately have them arguing. I know we're nearing the end of the season but still. or better yet, make her nice (or mean to just MC but at least a good fit for Darin) so that if you want MC to choose him, she has to be the bad guy stealing him from a likeable character

there were a couple times this volume where Matt is like "we're actually really good together" and MC has the option to say "oh, uhhhh, we'll talk about this later" and as a person who decided this week between volumes that I kinda liked gryff more than Matt even though I had MC take Matt to the hideaway, it's kind of the funniest option

anyway for my own justification, I think my MC and Matt didn't do anything in the hideaway but talk and in the morning she decided she liked Gryff more and for most of this volume would pick Gryff and ignored Dani's comments, choosing to believe he ended whatever was happening with Dani but still saw her as a friend. And I think MC confesses these things to the other OG girls and the rumor eventually spreads to Gryff and Matt, so they kind of have an idea where MC stands although she doesn't confirm until after the couple vote, because Matt wants to vote out Gryff to lighten his competition, as if there aren't worse couples in the villa, and that's where MC makes her decision between those two. this of course likely leads to nothing, because somehow the love triangle is still going on next volume. but know this is why I like this volume 🤣

kiss or diss was annoying with the Dante and MC stuff. at some point someone says "this isn't kiss, diss, and defend MC" and high key they're right, like I didn't need Nathan, Matt, and Gryff commenting on any time MC got dissed like I've been picking the nonchalant options in response to the mean girls' comments thus far so why would she care (again, i wish our choices like this MATTERED)

jasleen kinda right for this like I don't think it's MC's fault everyone is in love with her, but she should close some of those doors, it's just that the guys aren't getting the hint (and this is fusebox bad writing/refusal to make choices matter fault)

oh also Nathan says he wants to kiss MC but won't out of respect for her partner, but I think last volume during the first time he confessed he liked MC (which like why is the letter such a big revelation, other than that it's now public?) I did have MC kiss Nathan so like they've already kissed outside of a challenge. the writing is inconsistent the islanders are forgetful, so same shit as always.

the gryff gem scene before the voting was kinda lame but again, for my narrative, I think this is their big conversation where she admits she likes him more than Matt

which works out since Matt wants to vote out Dani and Gryff but I'm like oh absolutely not and it's fun that you get the option beforehand to hold his hand (I picked yes) and then after the vote you get the choice again (I picked no, so in my head they're over, even though I know next volume fusebox is gonna keep this love triangle going)

tori and Nathan are amicable, good for them

Dante asks mc if he should keep trying with tori and I think they're both kinda crazy but I feel like they could both could chill out outside of the villa and make it work and just be a surprise couple that works out and outlives most of the couples from this season

I don't know what the funny drink gem option was but picking water for Dani was very funny too for the record

also joshua making tea for Archie's voice was so funny I am here for the crumbs of a friendship between islanders

Bits with gryff in the dressing room after they piss off Dani because we're MESSY woooo

ok but like if you've seen love island usa s4, there's a part where Zeta and Timmy run into each other behind the bedroom/bathroom area after being separated from their couple and now both pursuing other people and have a whole secret makeout session and I feel like this is giving that

also you just know if this was the show they'd intercut clips of MC and gryff kissing with like clips of Dani crying or talking to Jasleen about how she doesn't trust MC and won't let her get to Gryff

Archie singing to lighten the mood around Rosalie was fun and also precedented based on the show lol. I'm glad we're getting more non romanceable boys in the style of a Reid rather than like a Tristan or a Liam (if we have to choose between those options only) (yes I realize I'm contradicting myself saying this after I was gunning so hard for Rewan but only because I wanted him romanceable so this is different)

anyway I kinda like this season, and I'm disappointed there's not much more left because the pacing was weird, but they could drop the ball in the next couple weeks and I change my mind idk

I don't think I shared my litg mamma mia au idea lol

Two OC's, a mother and daughter, for the sake of simplicity I'm calling them Donna and Sophie respectively.

Donna doesn't know who Sophie's father is but Sophie has invited three of her mother's former flames to her wedding at the very motel Donna runs to find out: Bruno, the goofy fringe comedian turned unhappy businessman, Roberto, the adventurous pilot that has settled down after all these years up in the air, or Zeph, the young heartthrob now music producer working on one last meaningful album. (I also thought about replacing Zeph with Suresh as a hotshot lawyer so it's someone from S4, 5, and 6, but decided I didn't like thinking about Suresh so here we are instead).

If you know Mamma Mia, these are Harry, Bill, and Sam respectively. But if you don't, I did change some things anyway, especially about Sam, so good news if like me you're not the biggest Zeph fan because he's not Donna's love interest in this version.

Bruno is Donna's childhood friend who confessed his love for her. After a fight with her own mother and plans to run away, she decided to give it a shot and had one fun night with Bruno but then ran off to a small island off the Greek coast. Since then, he hasn't found comedic success but is at least surviving in business. Present day, his main source of conflict with Donna is anger that she abandoned their friendship. It's not about that she didn't reciprocate his love, but it was that she ran away from her friend and never contacted him again. By the end, it's revealed he has a boyfriend (fashion model Youcef) and they plan on taking yearly vacations to the motel to see Donna and Sophie.

Roberto is one of the few pilots that's allowed to fly to this island because that's how remote it is (normally only accessible by ferry) and that's how he meets Donna. She charms him but realizes quickly he's a bit of a womanizer, gaining a reputation for sleeping with nearly every woman on the island, so she doesn't pursue anything with him until after Zeph leaves, and even so, by then he confesses he has just accepted a job in London flying commercial because of the stability because he wants the opportunity to be a family man and settle down, whereas Donna still wants adventure, so they agree it's a one night thing just to ease curiosity. Of course this is ironic, since shortly after Donna realizes she's pregnant and has to settle down, but she doesn't tell Roberto, and in the present day, though he is married and has sons, when he puts together that Sophie might be his daughter he's both ecstatic that he has a daughter and mad that Donna never told him even though that was his dream. But she knew he would need her to move back to London, but she wouldn't do that. Eventually he accepts Donna did what she thought was right and doesn't hold a grudge.

Zeph was on the cusp of a big record/world tour deal when he decided he needed a vacation where no one would recognize him, which is how he ends up on this island. He's a singer at a local bar for a few months, the same bar Donna becomes a regular at, and they have this whirlwind romance that ends in heartbreak when he is whisked away in the night by his agent without saying a word to Donna, then in the next few weeks he's making headlines that have even made waves on the island, revealing he's engaged to another famous singer. Present day, he's single and trying to make amends with Donna who is not having it. Paralleling what happened with Bruno, she asks him if it really was a PR move, then why did he go through with it and never come back to explain things, only to reveal he did but by then she was already off with Roberto. Donna's head is spinning at this revelation, but so much time has passed and she's not sure if she still loves him like that, but she at least loves him enough to accept he may be in Sophie's life. It's going to be a love triangle, sorry, but I think the biggest thing to make it clear to Donna to not pick Zeph is that he offers her a life in L.A. He's done with touring and has settled nicely there, but what Donna yearns for in her past is not the previous romances, but the adventure, so it doesn't make sense for her to settle down and if she was, it's not going to be away from the motel, the home she's worked so hard on. He wants to lift her burdens (because the motel is falling apart), but she is stubborn.

Donna of course has her own friend group, which is going to consist of the excitable romance author, Thabi, and the rich auntie, Angie. Thabi has a crush on one of the bartenders on the island, James, and she acts a bit crazy about it. Angie burns through boyfriends very fast, but hopes to find something stable with her new girlfriend, Cora, who's at home (couldn't find something for her to do on the island, sorry lol). She's also depended a lot on the motel repairman, Oliver, who's quiet but caring, which is perfect for the decades long slow burn I'm putting him into where he loves Donna and loves taking care of Sophie, but always hears Donna insist she's too busy between the motel and Sophie to be in a relationship. After he confesses, right before Sophie's wedding, she's shocked but thinking about it he really is the best of her former loves (the passion/romance like Zeph, sense of adventure despite settling down like Roberto, and basis of friendship like Bruno), and they're the ones that get married in the end. I think he also hasn't been outside of the island too much, so like Donna, he's going to want to travel the world but also still have a home on the island. Oliver also wants to take away any source of suffering from Donna, but doesn't want to erase the accomplishments and struggles she has made/been through.

I think that's the real meat of the story, but I do want to mention Sophie's friends because I did put a bit of thought in making Donna's friends from S4-6 and Sophie's from S8 (because only S8 was out at the time I came up with this).

Her fiancé is the Greek nature photographer Theo. To the wedding he brings along groomsmen Jack, Oakley, and his weird cousin Liam. (I am only including Liam because someone is going to need embarrass themselves to flirt with Angie, who has just come out as a lesbian). Sophie's bridesmaids are Bea, Emel, and Hazel. In this friend group, Hazel is inexplicably into Liam, who is Bea's ex that she'd rather have nothing to do with; Emel and Oakley are an odd couple, but still dating, and Emel has decided to help with wedding planning; Bea is closest with Sophie; and Jack is closest with Theo.

In my mind there's a whole non Mamma Mia related spin off fic about Sophie and Theo's real wedding a few years later but I have no ideas for that other than it would be the family icing out Sophie by being like "oh look how great Theo's brother Cassius is doing", or "look how beautiful his ex Claudia was, we invited her to the wedding."

uh anyway yea as soon as i learn to write dialogue and imagery and emotion and consistent characters it's all over for yall 🤣

actually so conflicted lol (both between love interests and whether I like this volume)

first offense is where tf is Kami and Darin it's been DAYS what do you mean they're stuck at the sleepover villa like just bring them back and shove those extra girls into the background it's fine they can get dumped later

speaking of dumping, when are we doing those three couple dumpings like it's been at least a day but I assume we're waiting for Kami and Darin so we can dump Kami first (Rosalie's OG partner)

I'm assuming the couples getting dumped are archie/rosalie, kami/casa girl, and tori/dante (unless they're stretching out that love triangle even longer which I hope not)

There's also mentions of a Jasleen as a casa girl which I thought was maybe the mean girl from casa (not dani) so I'm assuming they're waiting to bring her once Dani chills out to introduce more drama. and because I think Kami is getting dumped, she's probably coupled with Darin (boy bestie).

anyway the mailboxes are a copy from LI USA S7 again, which makes me wonder when this season was written because that was like a month/less than a month ago? I assumed they put the whole thing together before the first episode drops but this is one too many times to be a coincidence like I was maybe being generous thinking they weren't writing with AI but like the fact this season feels like a previous litg season and also features things you'd see in an actual love island show is feeling a bit sus

anyway I could not help myself and picked the messy option of writing a love letter to Gryff instead of Matt and we'll see if that bites me in the ass later

I also liked Matt in casa but now maybe there's just less time with him or less chemistry in the writing but I started to go back to Gryff except lowkey I kinda am inclined to believe Dani when she says he's been acting different now that MC is back. The one thing about fusebox being vague and not cleaning up these storylines is that there's some wiggle room so like if you don't believe her and you believe gryff, that can also be true. I do miss when we were all on the same page though of like yeah Lucas definitely was into Blake in Casa because he didn't feel assured with MC before Casa but we're all flawed. Here it's Gryff will keep denying and it's up to you to determine your truth.

anyway so the truth in my mind is gryff absolutely was acting different (not like maliciously leading on Dani or anything but definitely mixed signals and shes allowed to whack him one time) and for me that also gave me an ick the way he's just casting aside Dani who he hasn't shut down otherwise she wouldn't be acting like this

like idk I just believe her

also sometimes on love island they cast people that look similar to the og girls in casa and I'm pretending that's the case for Dani and my mc lol... probably just the skin tone and highlights in the hair

so talent show happens and I like the duo aspect of it

Archie secretly being a good singer is very fun I'm glad there's something good about him, makes him feel like a real character. that being said, I don't care if he's a good singer, I still don't like him. up until the end, I was like oh poor Rosalie, then she did a complete 180 from dreading the idea of being in the hideaway with him to voluntarily kissing him in the tower game. she asked who MC thinks she should focus on and I'm glad there was a neutral option because Archie sucks but they at least like each other (I guess??) and in theory it's fun he's a diva and she's a country girl who won't take his antics. Kami is cool and is better looking but I kept getting the vibe while he's trying to make it work with Rosalie, he was still into MC and probably would break up with her the week after they made it out the villa.

I'm upset they interrupted Tori's talent thing like who cares, someone sings or dances every season, let her do her little real estate routine. and then she crashes out and settles on just kissing Dante, who is just in the villa to be a lapdog, which I think is the natural progression for casa boys on love island anyway.

I genuinely thought Irena and Nathan's performance should've won or at least third place over Archie like in my mind they do it like a circus act where it's very exaggerated that Nathan is weak and Irena is impressively strong like it's fun and that's what the talent show should be

Speaking of Irena, I was a little surprised i still got the option to romance her because I was not romancing Keziah (chose that MC was into girls, but not into Keziah) so it's nice they remembered that option. However it did just merge me back on the wlw route which sucks bc I liked being Keziah's friend, but now I'm getting narration of like Keziah looking flirtatiously at MC during challenges and I'm not into that. I'm assuming because I picked Irena over Keziah for which girl to take to the hideaway, that it's gonna go back to normal there though.

Dani and Gryff's performance being a dance in the water is fun, I accept that they win however, and I chalk this up again to Gryff giving mixed signals, this interaction is foul

MC just complimented Dani now you go and say this in front of her how rude. very much the Sonya of the season and that's unfortunate because fusebox is once again doing this to the woc but hopefully we're early enough that they turn this around for Dani the way they (sort of) redeemed Ava

I don't remember when it happens but there's a gem options for a conversation with gryff in the secret garden and it's unfortunate Matt doesn't get a gem option like that this volume because it did pull me towards gryff again

But then there's also the Nathan confession, which oh my god is so cute and I don't remember the season 10 Jesse confession but I do remember liking it so... just to continue to compare this season to season 10

However unlike Season 10, where I could jump ship from Ethan and Yash and go for Jesse, I'm kinda conflicted. Because I like gryff and his storyline with MC so far, but the way he's treating Dani is kind of an ick (again, considering the headcanons I have to insert to make this season interesting for me), and Nathan is sweet but I hardly remember anything about him aside from he was into Tori and now isn't but also he is (Irena also clocked that this was weird so like.... they KNOW), and Matt is great but he didn't get a lot of attention this volume and the attention he did get fell kinda flat for me (which is weird bc at the moment he's not merged with any other character).

Tower game is chill, whenever the heck spin the bottle happens is also chill (I'm a sucker for the jealous eyes narration idk apparently im the only love triangle trope fan but ill admit it can get dragged out too long and gets old, especially bc it happens every season)

Hideaway, picked Matt, his great grandfather owned a lighthouse and I didn't pay for the gem scene so it's whatever really, I was hoping there was going to be a good conversation of substance there but it wasn't a paid gem scene so why would I think that.

Rosalie also gets sent to the sleepover villa and I'm missing all of them, and why are they still not back for the mail challenge???

also I realize when Darin is back he's gonna also be proclaiming his love for MC? oh my god everyone is so in love with me 😭🤣

somehow in the season not centered around the sleepover villa I'm still mad at the sleepover villa

anyway yeah I'm definitely invested in this season, so I would say I'm liking it more than the last two so far, I just think some questionable choices are being made and there's definitely a lot of inspiration from previous seasons, I'm just hoping they learned their lesson

season 12 volume 7 thoughts

FUSEBOX YOH GOT THE WRONG TAKEAWAY FROM LI USA S7

anyway first impressions of casa boys summarized by tori accidentally saying out loud how hot the boys are when Dante walked out. but like the islanders all look so good this season so far weakest boy is maybe Nathan and girl tori (or mei but I just don't like her bangs lol)

main takeaway from casa is aside from Archie (who's like a smaller version of Dean), the casa guys kinda just occupy the same spaces as the OG boys if that makes sense? like Dante is the guy that's into Tori (even though you could flirt with him initially im kinda getting the vibe he's more like how Kenzo was unromanceable, but i could be wrong and he could be exactly like Nathan); Joshua is the awkward one conflicted with MC and Keziah like your boy bestie; Archie is the one who's embarrassing himself by being forced to be with Rosalie like whichever of your top two you didn't pick; and Matt is like MC's partner

I'm conflicted because I wasn't a big fan of having the OG guys be so interchangeable from the jump and having these set characters definitely gives them personality, like I was living for the first part of the volume, but having them set in stone no branching is annoying too, because it doesn't make sense everyone's MC is compatible with Matt if we're all picking different options. Like i wish there was some branching there or we continued with their personalities. Like there's gotta be a good mix between this.

Because also up until they actually did the recoupling, I kinda thought it would be MC gets pulled aside by one of the girls and she says who she thinks she's most compatible with, then whichever girl that was predetermined to be with that guy would instead be surprisingly stuck with Archie.

speaking of crumbs of personality, the dates were cute and I like they actually gave them opinions because with Dante I picked rock music and he said I'll get you into indie and Matt said he'd go on a museum date only because MC would've wanted it. Also his response after not wanting someone so agreeable and exactly the same, yeah ok I like him now. so it's fun while still making sure the characters the reader picks aren't so dismissive. They've done this in previous seasons too (maybe 7,8?) and briefly in s10 when they were pretending we were "winning hearts" but I think because it wasn't really a thing in the beginning of the season it's nice to see it back.

Side note, Archie reminds me of Dean immediately, which once again proves my theory that this is just the slightly improved version of S10. Looks wise he's very much adding cross between Dean and Jace though.

the visual image of Archie failing the swimming challenge in raunchy races was so funny to me though

also in raunchy races they imply the girls think Darin is the smartest and I don't remember what his job is so maybe that's why but in my game this is the boy bestie? the same person that did the whip cream prank on mc and didn't fess up bc he thought it was a bad idea? you can say it's cowardly but i also think it's stupid????

I appreciate the little attention to detail that Dante designs watches and is always wearing a nice one lol. I did want to couple with him initially, but then his secret came out that he's game playing and he says it's a misunderstanding, and then this never gets addressed again so I never romanced him after that and I don't know if it's like that for anyone else or if he just always goes towards Tori instead of MC.

speaking of attention to detail I noticed the baenimite boxers in episode 3 of this volume I'm kinda dead 🤣

Joshua is adorable but the scene where if you share a bed with him and he nervously talks until you fall asleep was definitely supposed to make him less likable but I thought it was funny. Also the way he revealed he was into both MC and Keziah was odd so im almost leaning towards he's not a love interest, but I'll hold out hope he gets a chance. I'm absolutely only giving him a pass because I think he's cute (pretty privilege oops) and hes proven enough to be a nervous wreck so maybe hes just nervous and said the wrong thing.

I really didn't want to go for Matt because he looks kinda like Rewan, he's not fully rendered i think? like the shading on his chest isn't the way they do the other guys, and then also because he was into Keziah and I was like oh that's a hot couple. But eventually he and Joshua switch and idk if that's because of my choices or what, but then he kinda had me giggling by the end of the second volume, so im not mad at coupling with him, but only because it seems like the other guys aren't as interested so that's absolutely by design (the same way you can't choose your casa boys in s11 it's always dominic) (oh fuck I just realized I put myself in a blond boy versus casa dark haired boy situation)

sneaking out at night scene with him was cute like better than the scene j just drew with gryff BTW like if I did not do that as soon as the volume came out he would look different

in case you're wondering yes I did read the party would have special guests and think it would be rewan just for a split second

every time they asked if MC was bothered by gryff I simply did not care lol

also did not care about Tori being hypocritical like I love her messy ass but for the peace I think I'll say nothing 😅

casa amor being 1 volume only feels criminal but the season is short and going by fast especially since we really only had 2 bombshells prior and they showed up at the same time so maybe the pacing works out idk. I just think it should be 1.5 volumes minimum, gives us the audience a chance to think about the new boys for a week but if we're not getting a choice maybe it doesn't matter

oh I guess big thing is the decoupling everyone situation, which I guess bc MC was not single makes sense bc you can't force the reader to couple up but I'm still gonna be mad about both that idea and that they still haven't figured out how to bring back branching for even just this. like in my head it max affects 1 or 2 volumes because they can reset by the next dumping/recoupling so the numbers even out again or whatever. is that not what Rosalie is for, to be the extra girl to round out numbers?

but yeah I'm kinda surprised they had the same twist as the most recent love island USA season because they probably already wrote this season before LIUSA S7 Casa where everyone is split and forced to choose someone to bring back to the villa. And that means there are like dozens of thinkpieces online telling you why it sucked to remove the pressure from the Casa islanders to graft, which is not a problem in the fictional prewritten version, but still removes the drama. In the USA version I think they realized it wasn't working early enough on that bringing back people from the villa lasted for like twenty minutes and then they had a reformatted version of stick or twist basically.

but yeah that was the worst part of the volume, but I kinda glossed over it because I would've picked Matt anyway like even if there was a stay loyal option😅 just lucky ig

anyway yeah I liked this volume overall though!

also I normally shut my brain off to skip through the narration jokes at the beginning but this one I liked so good job this one time

I love that his sprite has birthmarks, i studied them all thoroughly lol (so unlike his hand that looks so wrong despite me using so many references, they are very accurate haha)

no one talk to me I'm in my junior detective phase

I mean like why is every volume a mystery with these secrets now AND we still have the sleepover villa like i just hate the gimmicks but if we're gonna have a gimmick keep it in the season I don't like there are just random off screen bombshells that never make it on

anyway so gryff was at the sleepover villa and rewan and mei knew but decided to try to get mc and gryff to break up bc they're gameplayers

this has been happening in the recent seasons so I've likely said it before, but it annoys me when the characters are just evil to be evil. like i get sometimes on love island people can come across as playing the game, but to not even pretend to be trying to find love and specifically targeting people for no reason is lame and doesn't really happen often. I will say, at least the gameplaying aspect with Mei and Rewan who are pretending to be a strong couple makes them a better antagonist than some other of fusebox's attempts at antagonists (worst case, Jonny/Nicolas 🙄) but like when Bobby and Priya tried to break up a couple, at least Bobby was claiming he was concerned they got too serious too fast and Priya kinda had feelings for Noah and was willing to cause drama over it. Which I think is why I was hoping Rewan and Mei were stirring shit up because they secretly liked MC/Gryff (...not just because i personally wanted an enemies to lovers ith rewan 😅). Even if it ended up the same result where they both get dumped, it would make their characters more sympathetic (although I guess fusebox doesn't care about making nuanced characters).

the scenes of them wandering around the villa at night looking for gryff was just filler but it did bother me because im like well the producers will yell at y'all to just go to bed, surely.

I don't know if your options during the kissing challenge matter, but I went for a playful kiss with Gryff and he thought it was Mei, which ngl, I found very funny but it never gets addressed again, but I did in retaliation pick the most intense option for the other guys.

don't care for mei's apology. I wonder if fusebox knows they have a bad track record with female characters and that's why they tried to give her an apology moment where she blamed everything on rewan. Anyway I personally felt like she was more shady and backhanded than rewan so that's why I didn't care for her. Also I like Rewan for the potential and he's funny that he's stupid, but this volume definitely he was starting to piss me off again.

I didn't think remembering your choices was gonna matter bc fusebox loves merging routes but I did try to vote Kami and Rosalie out and in the dressing room she's upset, but there's no way to confess so I do wonder if that'll come up later. There's only a few couples so I don't see how they wouldn't be able to figure it out quickly but I want it to cause drama actually. Especially because Gryff did not agree with MC when I got the choice to send the text so I just think it would be good drama in line with what you expect from love island.

omg the dress you can wear at the compatibility challenge is so nice even though in gryffs color you look like lady liberty

the scene where MC is chatting with Nathan and Darin (boy bestie) is the closest crumb we've gotten to a friendly chill chat where you get to know the islanders again. but also the confession scene after very cute.

didn't screenshot but when your partner is shaken by the mystery islander thing one of the options is "tell him to get a grip" and I thought that was so funny i think we should be allowed to be meaner.

anyway not a bad volume, we got a date and a confession, I'm just salty about the rewan dumping and the gimmicks each season but lowkey that's to be expected.

I wonder if the casa boys are actually unique based off your compatibility answers or are they like kami/gryff/darin where you can choose based off looks and they'll tell you your number one is the most compatible.

also I wish we got a new bombshell before casa, like i knew it was coming up bc we're halfway, but Nathan shouldn't count as a bombshell and Rewan and Mei were just messy so I don't think they should count either.
