i feel like people are skimming over the uk riots in a way that makes me want to tear my hair out. muslims in the uk are in active danger. immigrants in the uk are in active danger. refugees in the uk are in active danger. people of colour in the uk are in active danger. asian communities in the uk are in active danger. black communities in the uk are in active danger.

there are massive far right riots throughout the country right now and people like fucking elon musk and nigel farage are inciting it and still have a platform to speak. people have used three young girls deaths, people's genuine grief in southport, to try and gain traction for their own racist bullshit and it's working.

a lot of refugee charities have been forced to close leaving many people without support, homes, funding, food, etc. if you aren't able to donate please consider sending a message via the conversation over borders campaign! it will send a hopeful, welcoming letter to a refugee in the uk. there is also a guide to staying safe here.

please do your own research and donate to refugee charities, anti-islamophobia charities, mosques who are trying to rebuild after being destroyed, counter protesters, here are some i've heard positive things about but the list is extensive; southport strong together (support for the southport victims and their families), emergency unity fund, southport mosque rebuilding, riot repair fund, middlesbrough vulnerable residents, nasir mosque rebuilding, hull help for refugees, bristol welcomes migrants,

Please please please, I’m begging people, start talking about indonesia occupied papua. Over the last 50 years Indonesia has killed over 500,000 native Papuans in their occupation of the west half of the island.

This is also a genocide that should be talked about. It needs to be addressed, but it’s ignored on the global stage.

Btw, non UK users here, would be genuinely super helpful if you could boost posts relating to the far right violence happening and also counter protests. A lot of UK users don’t really follow each other, and also it just helps to increase the chance of people who could go to counter protests seeing posts about what’s happening when. I know posts about our politics; and non USAmerican politics really; don’t get a lot of traction on here, but like despite the UScentrism of the English speaking user base it’s really helpful and beneficial to share these things. The situation is likely downright horrifying to those being targeted right now and it really should be a priority for us to go out and counter this to the best of our abilities

In 1972, MP Bernadette Devlin had to go to parliament the day after the Bloody Sunday massacre that she had witnessed where British troops opened fire on Irish protesters. There, she was repeatedly refused the right to speak on the massacre despite being the only eye witness in parliament and had to hear her colleagues justify the massacre by lying that it was in self defense. She protested by slapping the home secretary, ending up with a six month suspension from parliament.

In 2024, Rashida Tlaib, the only Palestinian representative in the US, has to hear the current grand perpetrator of the Palestinian genocide give an address in congress as a honoured guest, unable to give such an address herself as the only person in congress who is personally affected by the genocide. She is protesting by wearing a keffiyeh and holding a sign that says "War criminal" and "Guilty of genocide" throughout the address.

I see Ireland in Palestine. It is the duty of all colonised and formerly colonised people to see their nation in Palestine and support it as they would their own.
