Part 2 of my “No Bull” Rabo de Toro dinner inspired by @jamesblickspain #MyArtEscape 🍴🇪🇸 Keep reading… I’ve been watching James’ videos since before I went to Madrid last September and while the tourist industry has changed dramatically since that time, he and his wife Yoly have been keeping his grounded, travel-lust fan base inspired by offering DIY traditional Spanish food tutorials. You can find the Rabo de Toro and Patatas Bravas recipes and demos on their YouTube channel. The recipes for Champinones Al Ajillo and Torta de Santiago (Swipe) I’ll add to my blog hopefully, next week… 🍷 Pintia 2015 Toro @temposvegasicilia was the perfect pairing partner and can be found @winebythebay in Miami. I first had this wine in Madrid and purchased it at @licorescabello — Madrid’s oldest wine shop. 🍇 For wine newbies like me, Tinto de Toro is a synonym for Tempranillo (100%) Note: Patatas Bravas is a Tapa & not a side. First time drinking an Austrian wine and Grüner Veltliner. What a delight to try the @ferraritrento Ferrari Perle’ 2013 and Ferrari Rose’ NV (not shown) paired with some absolutely delicious new additions to @rivierafocacceriamiami ‘s menu. I cannot emphasize how great this restaurant is. If looking for an authentic taste of Ligurian cuisine, just go! As for the wine... only bubbles are appropriate on such a beautiful sunny day in Miami! Here are the winemaker’s notes. 👇🏻 “Pale golden highlights adorn its straw yellow color. The perlage is extremely fine and persistent. Aromatic richness of extraordinary expressiveness: the scene is dominated by hints of Reinette apples and citrus fruits, accompanied by tones of white peach, almond blossom and toast-like notes. Elegant and harmonious, with the unmistakable fruity, aromatic sensations that are typical of Chardonnay. “Falling” in love with pastry. “Crostata di mele con crema frangipane” (Apple Tart with Almond Paste.” #MyArtEscape 🍂 🍎 Although living in Florida, I am Northerner by birth. Maybe it’s my imagination, but every Fall my body tells me that it’s sweater weather and the oven calls me — I need to cook a roast surrounded by seasonal vegetables, and bake… Apples have sentimental value. As a child, we’d go apple picking every Fall. My mother would buy a bushel of windfall apples and spend days stewing and jarring them, making apple strudel or pie. The good apples (McIntosh were her favorite) would be packed into my lunch box. These maple leaves are hers. She pressed them into a book and wrote captions beside each one, noting the place and date where she found them. I have inherited that book and it’s a priceless document of Fall days gone by. Even with the non-stop rain, you can still find vibrant colors in Miami. i’m looking back at a detail shot of, “Innocent Forest” by Shun Sudo in the Design District. @shun_sudo was born in Tokyo. He was a kabuki actor when he was little, and this experience led him to completely fall in love with traditional Japanese performing arts. The stage art work and Japanese-style paintings that he encountered had such a strong impact on him that they continue to be the inspirations for his art works. He captures his subject matter in a few stylized brushstrokes—known as Japanese sumi-e painting, and then paints over that image with graffiti pop art.
