The freezing month of December is that time of the year when the present year is on the verge of culmination and the New Year is dawning upon us with the message of hope, aspirations and fortune. This time of the year boasts of some of the most exquisite, rollicking and enjoyable festivals that are sure to lighten up your mood and leave you with impressionable memories to cherish. So, in this article I have penned down some of these kickass festivals happening around the country.
Rann Utsav (The Desert Fest)

Celebrated in the winter season, Rann Utsav celebrates the cultural legacy and vibrancy of the Kutch region where folk dances, adventure sports, beautiful handicrafts and local delicacies are enjoyed and relished by tourists. Numerous luxury tents are set up along the white salt desert giving one a blissful experience amidst the pristine white sand.
When: Nov 1st, 2017 - February 20, 2018. It's best to visit this place on full moon nights to witness the moon shining on the salt. (December 3, January 2nd , and January 31

Sunburn Festival

Asia’s biggest festival attracting lakhs of tourists and hundreds of performers, this year assures one to give another experience of a captivating musical extravaganza to all its fans. Kumbhalgarh Festival

It is three-day festival featuring performances from artists, art galleries, puppet shows and handicraft exhibitions set up against the backdrop of grand Kumbhalgarh Fort near Udaipur.

Comic Con

One of the most sought after events, the 7th edition of Maruti Suzuki Delhi Comic Con celebrates the pop culture where best of movies, gaming, comics and television is featured. This year round, the festival will feature Walt Disney’s Official DJ, DJ Elliot and stand up comedian Gaurav Gera. For gaming freaks there will be exclusive gaming arenas featuring Star Wars, WWE, Alto K10 Gaming and much more.

Dastkar Winter Mela

Dastkar Winter Mela, held in conjunction with Delhi Tourism, is famous for showcasing the winter wardrobes and collections. This year the focus is on exquisite Kashmiri products like Pashmina Shawls, Namda floor coverings, embroidered saris and bags along with exotic dry fruits, saffron, nuts and organic products.

Orange Festival

The beautiful state of Arunachal Pradesh welcomes tourists from all over the country for its four day long extravaganza-The Orange Festival where music, sports and adventure activities are set up to enchant the crowd. This time around Richie Kotzen, will be playing for the first time in India and is set to mesmerize the music freaks with his performance. Serendipity Arts Festival

Held on the banks of Mandovi River in Panaji, Goa, this eight day festival brings together artists from different disciplines- photography, dance, theatre, music, visual arts and culinary arts. Featuring over 70 projects, it includes 40 projects spread across different venues.

International Sand Art Festival

This festival is one of its kinds where sand artists from all over the world gather together on the beaches of Odisha and create some of the most breath taking, unique and sublime sand sculptures. The sand sculptures are designed on a particular them based on the trending topics of the past year. This festival usually coincides with the Magha Saptami where devotees from all over the world come to Konark to take dip in the holy water thereby creating a vibrant and a spiritual atmosphere.

Hornbill Festival

Hornbill Festival is held in the beautiful valleys of Nagaland in conjunction with government of Nagaland to promote tourism and showcase the cultural richness of Nagaland’s different tribes. It is indicative of the cultural practices, traditions and rituals of these tribes where numerous handicrafts handlooms are cuisines are displayed. In the evenings the Hornbill National Rock Concert takes place in which bands from all over participate playing heart throbbing music while in the night market is glittered with lights. The chilly eating and the pork eating competition draws in lots of people.

Cochin (Kochi) Carnival

The Cochin Carnival, inspired by the Portuguese tradition, if full of fun and festivity where competitions, beach sports, bike races, dancing and firework are order of the day. Each day includes games, music, partying and fireworks. Concluded on 1st of January with a massive parade attended by thousands of enthusiasts wearing fancy dresses and embracing the New Year with excitement and warmth.
