Every time I look at this, I just like it a little bit more. It's oddly soothing and ominous at the same time.

My jaw hit the floor when I came across this story in the manga. HOW did I spend half my life in this freaking fandom without anyone telling me that Hirutani spends literally ALL his page time acting like Jounounchi's obsessed, bitter ex? The sexual tension is INESCAPABLE

This is an excellent, excellent fan theory. We know historically that Egypt HAD villages that were basically entirely made up of workers for royal construction projects and their families, so this is actually really plausible.
And I like how it's open to interpretation whether Kul Elnans were actually involved in tomb robbing or not.
Definitely might steal this for my TKB fanfic I'm currently writing.
what i say: i'm fine what i mean: in the manga, it's said that Kul Elna was a village of normal people but in the anime, they say it was a village of thieves/criminals/people infected by darkness and i know that was 4Kids' way of justifying genocide to an entire generation of kids, but my theory is that they were all skilled architects and stone masons who were responsible for building the tombs and if those tombs were robbed, then the villagers of Kul Elna would get blamed because either you're crap at your job and you make shitty tombs, or you're the one who is robbing them. also, how did that underground altar get there? the entrance is in the middle of the village. there's no way it already existed and there's no way it could've been built without questions. i think that the villagers were commissioned to build the altar under the guise of it being a reward from their king and unknowingly contributed to their own demise.

Look, they were TRYING something. I give them all the points for bold choices. It has some really interesting stuff. Rafael is amazing, and the other guys are pretty cool too, even though Valon gets on my nerves from time to time. It's cool how they tried to give so many characters meaningful arcs, even if some of them broke down and got messy at the end. The exploration of Yami's darkness is interesting and gives us some of the most iconic moments in the later part of the show. They got 4kids to confirm Polarshipping out loud (even if from a third party), and gave us angsty romantic drama
But that doesn't mean I can forgive the absolute character assassination of Mai Valentine, the corny fanfic plot with the ridiculous Villain Sues, the way the lore gets BUTCHERED all the way from what duel monsters even are to Yugi and Yami never having faced each other before... It's a mess.
Still better than Grand Prix, though

I actually think Tristan's bit makes it harsher XD
Like it's just Joey doing his usual brand of trash talking, (and Kaiba usually doesn't care) but Tristan acting like "No, you crossed a line. That was too mean." just makes Kaiba seem sad and pathetic for not having friends, instead of just cold and uncaring.

He HAS depth, you just have to squint really hard to see it, and the story almost never focuses on him. But you get a little bit here and there, like how he is the one who is the angriest and the least forgiving during the Orichalcos saga.
Does Tristan have any character depth?
In the original Japanese anime and manga, he does and no thanks to 4Kids, he comes across 2 dimensional.
