Blog #259: Project Grant Update - Yspaniola

Yspaniola’s “Improving Menstrual Health” is a program for training and facilitating access to appropriate menstrual management for 140 students in the 3rd and 4th grades of Eugenio Maria de Hostos High School in Jaibón, Laguna Salada, Dominican Republic.  This initiative is achieved through a structured program offering menstrual education, coupled with the provision of essential resources, thereby empowering students to manage their periods safely and with dignity.  In the second half of 2023, the comprehensive training of 10 facilitators, organized into two distinct groups, was conducted.  The first group training of 3 facilitators was delivered through a hybrid approach, with 22 hours conducted online and 20 hours in-person.  The second group of trained facilitators, constituting 7 individuals, underwent a fully in-person training conducted by the expert CromosomosX teaching team at Yspaniola's Batey Libertad facilities.

Blog #258: Project Grant Update -Superkids Foundation

During the fourth quarter of 2023, the Superkids Foundation’s Conversemos program conducted personal development talks in 15 schools, benefiting 1,750 students from fourth to sixth grade. The dedicated team of facilitators delivered over 240 talks covering topics such as emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, bullying, and boundary setting.  Further, they offered 8,634 hours of learningabout self-empowerment in their Glow Club, in which 210 young women have participated.  In their intensive English program, English Rockets, a group of 85 children and teens actively participated, receiving 1,677 English learning hours throughout the year.

Blog #257: Project Grant to ROMP Global

ROMP (Range of Motion Project) Global provides community-based rehabilitation for people with amputation in Guatemala and Ecuador.  In 2023, ROMP Global delivered 427 prostheses, received 2120 patient visits, and graduated 82 CBR (Community-Based Rehabilitation) Program participants.  In 2024, AllPeopleBeHappy foundation is providing $15,000 of the projected budget of $180,000 to expand access to CBR services and improve the quality of mental health support by 1) hiring an additional Mobilizer, and 2) securing psychologists and psychiatrists to work outside of Guatemala City.

Blog #256: Grant Renewal to Ugandan Water Project

A $14,400 Project Grant has been awarded to Ugandan Water Project (UWP) for a project to “Reduce Harm to Children by Providing Water Infrastructure.”  In 2022 and 2023, with AllPeopleBeHappy foundation funds, UWP installed 2 RCS (Rainwater Collection System), 6 water filter stations, 4 handwashing stations, and staff and training in WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) in each of 4 primary schools, impacting 1,800 students.  For 2024, UWP is installing on-site at each of 4 primary schools 1 RCS (four PE-tanks), 4 water filter stations, 2 hand-washing stations, and WASH education to staff and students, thus serving 1300 children.

Blog #255: Grant Renewal to Saha Global

Saha Global works in Ghana to set up entrepreneurial women with a chlorinating business that provides clean water to the public at a price that all can afford.  In early 2024, we renewed, for the 7th year, our $10,000 Project Grant to Saha Global.  They currently have 433 water treatment centers, run by 1,231 women, serving more than 131,000 people in Ghana.  In 2023, Saha Global started 67 new water businesses which were run by 161 women, serving 9,690 people.  Our 2023 grant will be used to open 24 more of these businesses, providing livelihood to 77 women each year.

Blog #254: Fellow Amsalu Desie with Visions Global Empowerment

The AllPeopleBeHappy foundation has awarded a Fellows grant to Amsalu Desie, working with Visions Global Empowerment (VGE) in Hawassa, Ethiopia.  Amsalu founded Visions Ethiopia, VGE’s program in Ethiopia, and is currently its Executive Director.  With the Fellows grant, Amsalu will continue in the role of Executive Director, but with the additional title of AllPeopleBeHappy Fellow.  His duties include running and improving the services provided to 80 deaf children and young adults at the Visions Center for the Deaf in Hawassa, and overseeing the 13 staff members and 6 community volunteers.

Blog #253: Fellow Samaya Al-Eiadeh with Collateral Repair Project

The AllPeopleBeHappy foundation has awarded a Fellows grant to Samaya Al-Eiadeh, working with Collateral Repair Project in Amman, Jordan.  Founded in 2006, Collateral Repair Project (CRP) runs various programs to serve children and youth refugees from Iraq, Syria, Somali, Sudan, and Yemen, ranging from education to trauma relief.  It currently has two community centers in Hashemi Shamali and Downtown Amman.  As a Program Officer for CRP, Samaya’s duties are 1) support Arabic and Math youth tutoring programs, 2) support drop-in program, 3) train and coach new community volunteers, 4) implement and enforce child protection policies, and 5) monitor and evaluate program outcomes.

Blog #252: Grant Renewal to Education Across Borders

In 2023, a third Project Grant of $13,000 has been awarded to Education Across Borders for a WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) initiative in the Dominican Republic.  Education Across Borders’ mission is to create lasting solutions to extreme poverty in the most vulnerable communities, including the bateyes, home to over 2,000 Haitian Dominicans living in deplorable conditions.  The first Project Grant in 2021 allowed for the building in the community of Batey Libertad of 11 new composting latrines for 22 families, the repair of 15 latrines for 30 families, and the delivery of 100 water filters.  The second Project Grant in 2022 built 2 new composting latrines, repaired 13 latrines, purchased 50 water filters for new families, and delivered 15 water storage containers.  The third Project Grant is doing the same in the communities of Batey Dos, Aroyo de Toro, Janey, and Franco Bido.

Blog #251: Grant Renewal to The Tandana Foundation

The Tandana Foundation collaborates with communities in Mali’s Bandiagara District on initiatives that address community priorities.  In 2020 and 2021, the AllPeopleBeHappy foundation awarded two Project Grants to The Tandana Foundation for the creation of four school gardens, at Ondogou, Saredina, Nantanga, and Tegou.  In 2022, we switched gear and awarded a $10,000 Project Grant to The Tandana Foundation to 1) conduct literacy and numeracy classes to 300 women, 2) provide leadership workshops to 100 women, 3) register 10 new women’s associations, and 4) run business plan competitions to provide startup funding for 10 enterprises of 10 associations.  We renewed this grant in late 2023.

Blog #250: Grant Renewal to Friends of Nepal Pariwar Foundation

The AllPeopleBeHappy foundation is a longtime supporter of the Friends of Nepal Pariwar Foundation, awarding it a Project Grant for the 13th year in a role this April.  This grant supports the salaries of two nurse-midwives at the two health clinics in Mulkharka and Hinquwapati.  It also allowed for the skilled birthing training (2-month certification course) of the two nurse-midwives, and re-certification in the use of implants for 3 nurse-midwives and the BBP-Pariwar health coordinator.  From July of 2022 through June of 2023, the two clinics treated 4,343 patients (80% women) including reproductive health (1,730), family planning (334), and general health (2,279).
