If you’re thinking about getting a dress from Rixo London, think again

So here are the facts:

Rixo is an “independent fashion brand” based in the UK. It was founded by two white women, Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McCloskey. For reference, these are the founders (taken from the Belfast Telegraph):

Now, take a look at the dress on the left, which is supposedly one of their prints and designs. Here’s a closer look at the print:

The panel on the right is the “Moonlit Sky” print on Rixo’s dress. The panel on the left? An illustration called Star, Moon, Cloud, and Sky Drawing made by Filipina artist Feanne back in 2014.

Feanne has been making art since she was much younger. She has reproduced her work on accessories and clothing either on her own or in collaboration with independent Filipino designers. Check out her work below:

The thing is, though, Feanne never authorized the use of her illustration on Rixo’s prints. They never secured the license to reproduce it from her. For clarity, she summed up the issue in posts in her Facebook and Instagram page:

She posted side-by-side comparisons of the elements her 2014 illustration and Rixo’s “Moonlit Sky” and “Oriental Sky” prints, which came around 2016. I’ll let you be the judge (hint: THEY’RE THE SAME):

Worst part is, Rixo has REFUSED to acknowledge the copyright infringement. Instead, they’ve been blocking people left and right on their social media accounts, and have been deleting comments. They’ve even resorted to blocking JOURNALISTS from the Philippines who just wanted to get their side of the story!

Further, Rixo’s lawyers’ letter to Feanne claimed that this was all just a “vain attempt to piggy back off the huge success and trending leading fashion designs and prints” that Rixo allegedly creates. One of the founder’s sisters, Gemma McCloskey, even posted a comment on Feanne’s Instagram, calling her “disgusting” and “pathetic”:

I dunno about you guys, but you know what this feels like to me, aside from ART THEFT and COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT? It feels like PRIVILEGED, WHITE, WESTERNERS stealing from people they think are much smaller than them, people they think are unimportant because they’re on the other side of the world. 

It’s the First Worlders BULLYING the Third Worlders YET AGAIN, because they think they can get away with it.

Well you know what? We do NOT give up easily. 

To everyone out there – we shouldn’t let these things continue to happen! When will we stop letting these people get away with making money off the hard work that the rest of us have done? 

Please, please, PLEASE help lend a voice to artists and creatives everywhere, especially those from smaller countries. 

BOYCOTT RIXO. STOP buying their stuff. Give them a piece of your mind, and TELL THEM what they’re doing is NOT okay. They’re CLAIMING to be independent creatives, while HARMING real creatives elsewhere.

Unrelated to Capaldi, but does anyone here watch Mozart in the Jungle? Because oh my goodness that show, I just finished the second season and I need to squee (on that note, has anyone written an orchestra AU with Twelve as the eccentric maestro and Clara as the cellist/violinist/oboist/anything already??)

Remember that time when we were all scared that the promo still were about Darillium? Yeah. Fuck that. I don’t regret one moment of this episode. 24 years. He gave her 24 years. They lived happy for 24 years. They go on adventures. They kiss. They makeout. They steal things. They laugh. They cry. They fight. They travel throughout space and time. No one can convince me that these two aren’t in love with each other. No one can convince me that they don’t love each other. NO ONE.

Can we all just take a minute to imagine Twelve and River being domestic, married idiots for 24 years?

Can we just take a moment to appreciate what happened?? The Doctor had to listen to his wife, the woman who was always and completely forgiven, the woman who was made to kill him and he married anyway, the woman whose distress calls he always responded to– he had to listen to her announce and prove that she genuinely didn’t believe he loved her while affirming just how much she loved him. Just look at his face. Look at him. It just about kills him. He had no idea she felt that way. That she actually believed he didn’t love her and yet loved him so much regardless. 

He listened to that, and he heard her. What does he do? What does he do?? He goes and takes the diamond she married and builds an entire restaurant just for her with it. He orders the best seats in the house. He finally fulfils that promise to take her to the Singing Towers, something he’s been avoiding for centuries because it will be one of the most painful experiences of his life and he knows it. He’s been running from it for so long but he finally, finally stops running and faces his fear and pain directly because he’s facing her. And how could he not? He’s just learnt she thinks he doesn’t love her. He can’t say it much louder than this.
