All opinions good or bad are my own. . This book was not bad, but nothing amazing either. The problem for me is that a science fiction book has to be truly outstanding for me to love it because it isn’t a genre that I tend to read too often. It isn’t too often that you see aliens and time travel in the same book though, so that really intrigued me. . Sara got on my nerves quite a bit throughout the book. I didn’t love her as the main character, and because of that I felt like I couldn’t really connect to the story. I felt like all of the characters were pretty shallow actually. Like you didn’t really get to know the depth of them which kept me from really connecting with them. I was interested in them and how they fared but in the end I was more interested in the plot. . I was hoping we would get more answers in this book on why this brother/sister duo are so important to save Earth but I guess that will come in the next book. I’m interested to find out more about Noah as well. While I didn’t fall in love with the first book I have high hopes for the sequel and where we go from here! . Overall this book was a quick and easy read that will tickle your fancy if you love aliens and tons of action. I am intrigued e nough in the story that I will continue on with the sequel when it comes out. Since I didn’t do a wrap up last month (because I was ashamed at how little I read), I thought I would do one for both months. I have been in a slump most of this year when it comes to reading and I just don’t have the motivation. So while it isn’t an exorbitant amount of books I am proud of the five I have managed to read. At this point I don’t even want to think about my Goodreads goal because I am so far behind. But, enough of my moaning, let’s move on to the books I did manage to read! . So I recently went to the Word on the Street book fair in Toronto which of course means I was going to have a haul to go along with it! I really did try to hold myself back and limit myself to only the books I wanted most or were there for an author signing. A couple of books pictured are books I previously owned but got signed. . So in the end I only bought 8 books which is an all time best for me lol. Over half my haul (4 books) were only $3 each which was amazing and made me want to buy more but I resisted! So I realize this is super late but a couple of weeks ago I went to the Word on the Street book fair in Toronto. It was the first time I had been back in a couple of years and I don’t know why I ever stopped going! There were more booths and more people than ever and I had such a wonderful time. . For those of you who either aren’t Canadian or just don’t know what it is WOTS or Word on the Street is a book fair/convention where vendors and authors meet to have panels, do signings and sell all sorts of literature. Publishers big and small, libraries, magazines, newspapers, all show up to celebrate literacy. . WOTS has locations all across Canada, including: Halifax, Lethbridge, Saskatoon and Toronto. Over the last few years they’ve moved from their location in Toronto at Queen’s Park down to the Harbourfront Centre. It just goes to show how popular and big it is getting! Outstanding middle grade retelling of the Six Swans. Andaryn was a principled, courageous, tenacious, generous and truly lovable character that made me root for her to win. The world building (Scottish and Ancient Roman feel) and pacing for this book was phenomenal. I also loved the underlying theme in the book about the power of words. Hey guys! I realize I kind of went MIA for a couple of weeks and this is super late but I thought I would post it anyways. When fall comes around (not that it feels very fall today!) for some reason I always lean towards reading more mystery and thriller books. I love hazelnut coffee! I have this hazelnut creamer that I add to my instant coffee and it is delicious. Look at the book sleeve that my little sister made me! Isn’t it adorable? I am going to get her to teach me how to make them. . Today I am finishing up my homework, running some errands and then getting ready to head to Word on the Street in Toronto tomorrow. I collect both hardbacks and paperbacks. Some series or books are only available in paperback form and that is perfectly ok with me. But if I had to choose between the two then I would definitely choose hardbacks. . I love the weighty feel of a hardback in my hands, love the art on the dustcover and then finding out what colour the book itself is and if it has any details.
