This is the biggest moment where the game confronts Kiryu's "honor" as a character FLAW. As a failing of his outlook on life. It criticizes him for thinking that it's a good idea to hold himself to the promise that if he was responsible for Kaoru's parents death she should just shoot him and take her revenge. In his mind, that would make things "right" and "make up" for what he did to her. Kiryu's life is less valuable to him than his honor.

Kaoru throws it in his face and calls him out for it beautifully. Kiryu seriously thinks that her just killing him will make things right? That it'll set the world straight and take away her pain? That killing the man she's come to fall in love with won't just make her feel WORSE? It's stupid, it's short sighted, and it's actually quite selfish. It fails to takes Kaoru's feelings into consideration whatsoever.

The man she loves is responsible for the death of her parents. Killing him will "make it right"? What the fuck is WRONG with you, Kiryu?

This game is so fucking good.
