It needs to but it won't, given the stubborn part. There's no winning here.

It needs to work on that.

One thing he quickly detected about Shelley was that she had a refreshing sense of all things easy going. There was a certain metaphorical light that seemed to surround her being with each and every encounter they had, very few to number, but present nonetheless. She checked that off of the long list of things he fancied in a woman. Things were looking up so far and he could only imagine the experience escalating into one that he would look back on and smile. “It’s okay. I didn’t think you were cool to begin with,” he quipped before shaking his head to signal his ‘only joking’ plea.
Listening to her talk was easy and he came to the conclusion that he wouldn’t be getting bored in regards to spending time with the brunette. He loved it when a girl was able to go along with his brand of humor, thus, another thing to check off of that ever waiting list of his. “And you didn’t say anything? Ah no backbone!” he expressed with his eyebrows pushed together and a wide smile before following right behind her towards the entrance. Alex held the door for an older couple making their way out and offered a friendly nod. With small restaurants like these, it was somehow more personal rather than having so many waiters and waitresses running about. There was a peaceful feel to the place that he greatly preferred.
Alex walked up behind her and involuntarily placed his hand against the small of her back as he told the waitress that they would be seating for two. Taking notice to this tiny gesture, his hand retreated while lightly clearing his throat in retaliation to the action. He now hoped that she didn’t think anything of it, because he certainly didn’t. Or perhaps he did and the term certainly would be used loosely, or not at all even. Walking behind the waitress to their booth, he examined the vacant seats and internally approved of the setting. “I think you’re going to like this place,” said the man before flashing her a wink and sliding into the booth.
Food Bonding ft. Shelley & Alex
After Shelley had agreed on meeting up with Alex that evening, to bond more over their shared love for Italian food and really just to get to know the other person better, she hadn’t planned the rush of nerves that went through her. She couldn’t quite put her finger on the exact point for where her nerves had come from or why they were there. They’d already concluded that neither of them were psycho murderers, so it wasn’t as if she was nervous of meeting someone with the potential of it all going wrong. Maybe it was the fact that he was incredibly good looking and although it was no where near a date for the two of them, she hadn’t spent any time out with a guy in recent times.
As she sat down on the bench, she was rather glad that Alex was facing the other way, otherwise she probably would have embarrassed herself with the near tumble she took while trying to sit down before he turned back around. Her smile only grew as she heard him let out a light laugh and she tucked some strands of hair behind her right ear. “I’m so glad that worked..I would have seemed a whole lot less cool if you didn’t turn around.” She said, letting out a small laugh of her own.
Shelley nodded her head and smiled, “Well this bench already tried to trip me, I don’t think it likes me very much. So lets head inside.” She said, standing up, a small bounce in her step as she did so. It was almost strange how happy and bubbly she was, or so she was told. She rarely ever showed any other emotion besides happiness, and it’s not that she was afraid of showing other emotions in front of people. She was long past the times where she was afraid of people judging her, it was just that some things she liked to keep more private. Smiling, she spun around and headed to the front door of the restaurant, walking inside and she waited a few seconds for Alex to walk in behind her before smiling at the waitress that greeted them.

I completely agree. Time is strange.

It feels way earlier than it actually is.

As cars slowly drove by on the confined street with small buildings consisting of antique shops and random restaurants, Alex watched everything going on around him. He was always one to people watch whenever he found himself in situations requiring suspension. It never failed to intrigue him, spectating body language from afar and knowing that each and every person had their own story. His mind carried off to thoughts of Shelley. He wondered if she would be just as outgoing in person as she had proved when they were talking online. Only time was to tell at this point.
Feeling a tap on his right shoulder, he raised his eyebrows and shifted towards the corresponding direction to greet the petite brunette, taking a lucky guess that it was her and not some random stranger. To his surprise, no one was there. Or so he thought until he turned back around to see her sitting right next to him. “Whoa,” he laughed, “Hi there.” Alex stole a few seconds of this greeting to look over her features in a discrete manner. To a certain extent, he was checking her out but not in any way, shape, or form were his actions displayed as lewd. The girl was beautiful, no doubt and a scrap of him suddenly felt nervous. This was grade school stuff, he was aware of that moot opinion. But again, he couldn’t help whatever feelings he experienced.
“So,” he broke the silence with a light clap of his hands. “Shall we head inside or do you find this bench all too exciting?” His question and playful, snide tone concealed his inner anxiousness, acting as a defense mechanism of sorts to mask anything that would present him as being lame. After standing up, he motioned his hand towards the front entrance while displaying a charming smile and stepping aside to allow her passage for a straight shot to the door. Something about the way she carried herself so far made him want to ask so many questions. He wanted to get to know her.
Food Bonding ft. Shelley & Alex
Shelley was never described as the quiet or most responsible one in any group of friends she made, yet she was never described as the most outgoing one either yet Shelley had managed to apparently flirt with several guys over the past few days, while in fact she had just been talking to them. She had no idea that just her talking to guys would stir up things and make people believe that she was some huge flirt. She’d been single for a long while now and although she wasn’t desperate for a guy to be with, she certainly hadn’t written off the idea of finding the right guy for her one day. Though of course, Shelley Hennig didn’t need a man, or atleast that is what she told herself on a daily basis.
Shelley was rather quick at making friends, she could bond with someone over the simplest things and in one case, she had managed to bond somewhat with Alex over a silly little topic; food. Although that is not how their conversation started, somehow they had both agreed to a trip to New York together before they really had even introduced themselves. The spontaneity of the moment was surreal but a part of her was actually looking forward to getting to know the boy more.
Having decided that it was still nice enough outside and that the small restaurant she was meeting him at, wasn’t too far away, Shelley pulled a light jean jacket over her dress, pairing it with some sandals, she grabbed her keys, phone and bag before leaving the house, deciding to instead walk the short distance from where she was staying to the small restaurant. It was a rather uneventful walk and she pulled her jacket tighter around her when she neared their meeting place, a small smile forming on her face as she made her way towards the bench she had found him sitting on. Quickly, she poked his right shoulder before running to the left and taking a seat beside him, “Hi.” She said to him, smiling.

That does sound like an awful day. People can be so rude it's unsettling. You may need a body guard next time you decide to go to Starbucks to prevent another stunt like that. I'm sorry to hear that though. I wish I knew of a way to cheer you up but I'm no good at jokes or anything related.
Tumblr media
Just pretty much everything so far. I tripped in the hospital today, I got hit with a door when I got to Starbucks, a guy stole my hot chocolate and I confronted him but he left with it anyway, I broke my favorite bottle of perfume and it got all over my brother’s favorite pillow. Then he got mad because I stuck up for him against his girlfriend.

Food Bonding ft. Shelley & Alex
For quite a considerable amount of time, Alex had been out of the so called dating game. He failed to see the point of it all when eventually, and inevitably so he thought, it would end up in flames. So keeping himself adamant on avoiding that aspect of life became second nature to him. That surely didn’t mean he avoided women as a whole, though. He was just noticeably cautious, making a point to always keep an acute eye out on how much he opened up to someone. Too much would deem him vulnerable and that was the very thing he intended on fighting shy of. It was a typical thing to say the least, being afraid of someone seeing you exposed and striking at your weakest point. But that didn’t stop him from feeling the way that he did about the subject matter.
Low and behold, a lovely woman named Shelley popped into his life who he took a keen interest to from their very first conversation. He fancied her persona and overall ability to keep an engaging conversation going. Even if it was only about something silly such as their mutual regards towards food. It was different in its entirety for him to offer his presence in New York City with her. Never had he flown to a different state with someone he hardly even knew, nor was acquainted with. But seeing that he made the rash decision to have dinner with her, they wouldn’t be strangers by the time that trip came, if it’s actually something to come.
Alex sat causally on the bench just outside the Italian restaurant, sunglasses covering his watchful eyes. It was apparent to him that it would only be polite if he arrived early in order to be there first. Like his mother always said, it was rude to keep a lady waiting. He took a quick look at his watch, seeing that he had only been there for about five minutes. You could say that he was impatient, but he always checked his watch despite actually intending to learn the time. Tugging at the hem of his button up shirt, the faint wrinkles seemed to disappear. That was until he let go, then annoyingly, they came back again which resulted in a sigh falling from his lips. He knew this wasn’t a classy meeting, but that didn’t stop him from wanting to look presentable with that shirt and a pair of jeans.

My mum uses my full name. But I do recall you taking a fancy to using it as well. You're lucky I let you.
When am I not serious? You’re not in trouble. I just like using your full name.

Has this gotten serious? Because using Alexander primarily means I'm in trouble.

Then it looks as if we've got ourselves a flawless scenario. Then let's go out to get some, we can chat and continue bonding over all things edible.

Ideas on how to make this whole thing better? Hmm, none from the top of my head. Ooh, I do love me some Italian food.
