A world-famous Birmingham musician has been left devastated after thieves snatched his saxophone – which he could only afford by busking on city streets. Award winning Soweto Kinch, from Hockley, said it was like losing a part of his body, and has made a desperate appeal for it to be returned.
Keep your eye out for a 1963 Selmer Mark VI, handmade by French firm Henri Selmer Paris. And if you've friends int he biz, please tell them as well!

Weird Sax
If you want to see the sublime meet the ridiculous, check out this video of the largest playable saxophone - the sub-contrabass saxophone - played alongside the simply dinky soprillo saxophone. Personally, I think the sub-contrabass sax is a prime example of the well-worn saying "Size isn't everything". It just sounds like one musical fart after another to me. The soprillo or sopranissimo, however, has a gorgeous tone.

Absolutely blissed out electro from London trio Sunless '97. Love the way the sax just blends into the mix at the end. If you like M83 you should definitely give this a listen.

Gotta give a rat props for trying, but his embouchure needs some work.

I know things in Texas are a bit, shall we say bigger, but... really? Still, they have to let people know it's a jazz club, so what better way to do it then poleaxing it with a 70 foot high saxophone.

The Fairer Sax
Tumblr media
The things you find on the internet, eh? I had to post this just because, well it’s oh so eighties. Pink Ruffles! Feathered Hairdos! Terrible Sexist Puns! What more could you ask for? Apparently the playing’s rather nice too and it’s still available to buy on Amazon. Tempting… Very tempting…

Thinking of Starting The Saxophone?
Want to start playing the saxophone, but don’t know where to begin? Well here’s some tips for you. Customarily, you'll find 4 conventional sizes of saxophone. They're soprano, alto, tenor and baritone. The soprano saxophone is in the key of Bb, then alto is half an octave lower, in the key of Eb. Tenor saxophone is a full octave lower than the soprano and Then finally, the baritone sax is an entire octave below alto. Out of these  4 key saxes, the alto saxophone would be the one which nearly all first-timers are advocated to begin with due to the instrument's pitch.  It’s generally considered the easiest to get the full range of notes out of, whereas the higher and lower pitched saxes demand more difficult breath work to produce their full range of notes. On top of that, the physical size of the keys is smaller on an alto and for that reason young ones usually have little difficulty in holding the saxophone. And you’ll never be at a loss for sheet music either, as alto sax is the most common of the saxophones in orchestral music and subsequently there’s a lot of music available for it. Now you’ve probably heard or even been encouraged to have a go at the clarinet just before taking up the sax. The clarinet consists of tougher fingering and therefore it is thought that if you're able to grasp this you will make swift work at developing on the saxophone. But then again, the saxophone has a gentler learning curve and this might be more enticing to you if you want to progress at a faster rate. The embouchure of the sax is also regarded to be easier.. Embouchure indicates the method by which you employ the mouth to the mouthpiece in order to play notes. Since this and the standardized reach of keys are more straightforward to work versus clarinet and flute, a student saxophonist will get a agreeable tone from their instrument with much less effort. So finally, remember that saxophones don’t come cheap and if you can try before you buy, then do it! While there are plenty of imported and unbranded models from China with attractive prices, don’t automatically go for the cheapest. You’re going to want an instrument that will stand the test of time while also producing a nice and thus do as much justice to you as you learn to get better. Yamaha alto saxophones start at the lower price range and offer a decent build quality and tone. But there are plenty of other makes out there which also deserves some attention. If you’re looking for saxophones for sale uk, then be sure to not just shop online, but choose a music supplier that has a store front where you can actually go and try out the instrument before parting with your cash. But most of all, enjoy yourself!
