So... Shadow vanilla hu. Right into my heart. So here we go.
Just a little thing I have been thinking about. Do tell me if you wanna hear more of this au
---
The fight had been sudden and brutal. Dark enchantress cookie choosing to go for the surprise attack, shortly after the Ancients had just been able to defeat the beasts the first time.
It was a very close thing, with the beasts nearly defeating the still very freshly awakened Heros.
And they would have won, if Shadow Milk cookie hadn't hesitated.
The Heros had been ripe for the picking, the perfect time to finally get his other half of the Soul jam back, but looking at Pure Vanilla Cookie, something inside him revolted.
Even now, hurt and nearly defeated, the cookie of Truth still looked at him like he was a friend instead of an enemy.. Like he was a cookie instead of a beast.
And this moment of hesitation was enough. White Lily having just enough time to revive the seal and banishing the beasts back into the tree.
The other four beasts screamed their anger, clawing at their wooden prison with no avail.
Shadow milk just sat there in defeat, watching the battle go on with dark enchantress cookie turning the tide in her favor, using that the sealing had taken the rest of the fight out of the heros to her advantage.
While the other beasts grinned, hoping the villain would win and free them again, Shadow Milk felt sick at the sight of Enchantress cookie defeating the heros one by one until only Pure Vanilla was left standing.
Like history repeating itself, Pure Vanilla was once again left to fight of the evil sorcerers alone.. Just that this time he was in even worse shape.
While she was cackling and monologing about her inevitable victory, the beast of deceit stared at his other half, realising he wanted to actually truly help this silly cookie.
He though himself more insane than ever, but still he tried to think of anything that could help, anything to protect the one cookie who had seen something in him other than a beast, the only one to ever hold his hand out to him in friendship.
He went deep into his memories, his title as the former fount of knowledge coming in handy again.
Shadows writhe around him, his own shadowy eyes staring at him in horror at the idea that was forming in his mind.
The seal. He would use the seal.
He and the other beasts were bound to the tree, but the tree was bound to them as well. A connection that went deeper than what most would think.
He always feared to loose himself to the tree. To let himself go too much and forget himself.
This time though, he wanted to deepen the connection. To force a stronger bond with his own prison.
And while dark enchantress was finally winding down, getting ready to strike Pure Vanilla down, the Jester took a deep breath and gave himself fully over to the tree.
--
Pure Vanilla stared feebly up at dark enchantress cookie, not able to do much more than look at the end coming at him.
He was sad that they had to seal the beasts again, still thought they could be redeemed.
But that thought was a moot point, now that he would not survive this.
Having accepted his fate, Pure Vanilla closed his eyes and waited for the end.. But it never came.
The silence stretched and the Cookie of Truth opened his eyes back again in confusion, a soft gasp escaping him as the world came back into focus.
Dark enchantress cookie was screaming hatefully, trying to free herself from the silver trees branches, which had shot down and pinned her to the ground, slowly dragging her to the tree itself, where a silver and blue cookie stood at its base.
Vanillas sight still swam a bit and even his staff had problems to see the unknown cookie at first, but then the cookie started to look like... Shadow milk?
It was impossible, but there at the base of the tree clearly stood shadow milk, even though he looked far different than before.
His blue jester outfit now more elegant and silver, a blueberry bush, not unlike the neck Fluff of a wolf, lining around his neck and trailing down into a silvery cape.
His head now crowned with small, silver wooden antlers not unlike the branches of the silver tree itself, his dark hair now speckled with stars and softer, silvery eyes nestled within it.
Pure vanilla stared in awe, as Shadow milk cookie used the silver tree to cage dark enchantress, sealing her into the tree itself like the other beasts had been.
Silence fell over the battlefield, the changed cookie of deceit slowly making his way over to his other half.
Pure vanilla didn't know if it was smart, but he felt giddy and happy to be able to see the darker cookie again.
He stumbled trying to stand, landing back on his knees in exhaustion.
The cookie of Truth could do nothing more than look up at the other, who stopped in front of him, staying silent for a long moment.
A soft sigh and a hand extented found Pure Vanilla Cookie on the other side of the same Szene from when he offered his hand in friendship.
".. So is the offer still up?.. Being your friend?"
Shadow milk muttered lowly, looking half away, but never retracting his hand.
His hand was taken and he was dragged down to his other half, finding himself suddenly engulfed in a soft and warm hug.
"of course. Thank you, my friend. "
Shadow milk startled for a long moment, before resigning himself to his fate and returning the hug.
He had changed, he could feel the deep connection.. The permanent connection, he now had with the silver tree. He had become one with his own prison to safe the thief of his soul jam, his other half.. His friend.
Maybe he would regret his choices at one point, but for now he would make sure this silly Nilly would get some medical attention.. And maybe his ancient friends as well.. Or whatever, he only did this to protect what was his anyway. And he would die on that hill.

I Am A Retired Hero And My Love Interest Is A Crime Lord!? byShyCrow :
Danny Fenton did the whole hero thing, all right? He fought bad guys, saved the world a couple of times, became enemies with a secret government faction. And it was fun. Really, he had no regrets! But now it's time for him to buckle down and focus on getting that degree. It's a good thing Gotham University gave him a full ride. But things are just now starting to get more and more complicated... It started as an accident that evolved into the Red Hood paying attention to Danny. And now ghosts are starting to lose objects that, if fallen into the wrong hands, can cause a lot of trouble for both Danny and the Ghost Zone. With the bats starting to take notice of him and the Zone's refusal to leave him alone, can he truly lead a normal life? And, more importantly, does he really want to? Word Count: 138,759 On-going
A Crow's Murder by kokoa_la :
Danny takes on a new moniker when he starts up business in Gotham as a human, but this time, he's not the hero. A vigilante to the core, taking risks and shots for the greater good at another's expense.
With his memories holding his left hand and his responsibilities holding his right, Gotham seems like the perfect place to hide.
Until he's got a clock over his head, ticking away to an unknown end.
i.e. Danny steals from the waynes and now have the bats on his tail, too bad for them the only one to have spotted Danny is the Red Hood himself. Maybe the halfa can trust the resident crime lord with his teeny tiny issue with the government. What's a little treason to murder, right?

Danny's Daycare by RobinsEggHead :
Being the Ghost King is surprisingly boring when you're good at the job and therefore your people are at peace. In an attempt to escape his mind numbing boredom (and do a favor for Lady Gotham) Danny begins his ten step plan to help the city without donning the Phantom 'cape' once more.
Too bad the Waynes and Gotham's vigilantes seem to be taking such an interest in the strange man who willingly moved TO Gotham to open a daycare in the Bowery. It's fine, this is all fine, what could go wrong?
Turns out- a lot.

A deal with the Ghost King by JaxinKH :

Word Count: 4,524 Completed
Rooftop Express by EmeraldsAndAmethyst :
Danny Fenton just wants to help his big sister be comfortable in Gotham. But he is getting so done with not being able to fly around freely. Danny tries to do things on the up and up but just progressively accidentally starts looking more and more like a new rogue trying to get set up. His parents must be retired super villains, which might not mean anything. But the rest of the evidence isn't very promising.
And then he finds a half-ghost no one knew anything about. Befriending him in the suit instead of out isn't helping his 'definitely not a super villain' case in the slightest.

What could go wrong? (A lot) by Dreaming_Ember :
John Constantine sat quietly rubbing his temples with his hands. He was fighting to not pull out a cigarette and light it. He knew this meeting would be bad. As soon as the Bat called him here for a favor he knew it was going to get messy. Bats never needed him for favors. But with this League Of Assassins people joining up with an unknown cult it seemed John was the best bet, well after he tried contacting Zatanna who was busy with something else. So far they weren't getting anywhere and it had been two weeks, the only thing that John has noticed is how what the bats call the Lazarus Pits, looks suspiciously like ectoplasm. Boiling ectoplasm. But still ectoplasm. John sighs, he didn't want to have to ask Danny for help, but if those pits truly were ectoplasm he would need to get him involved. ___________________________________________________________ Or when The League of Assassins starts acting up and joining forces with an unknown cult, Batman contacts John Constantine for help. Core Bonded by GhostInGotham :
The only thing Tim could hear was his own beating heart and his harsh breathing. He barely even noticed that the demons had stopped what they were doing as well. Suddenly, the temperature around him dropped to the negatives. Snow started falling from the sky, melting as it hit Tim’s skin. There was a twitch from Trigon’s hand.
“ Mate, who…who was your brother just summoning? ” Constantine asked over the comms, his voice shaking.
Ice spiked out of the ground into Trigons chest and forced him to stumble back. A man with blue tinted skin, and enough power radiating off of him to force an army to their knees, stood above Jason with a raised hand. Jason was on the ground and leaning his weight on his elbows, watching the being in front of him.
“ W̴e̵ ̸h̷a̶v̸e̷ ̷g̸o̴t̶ ̸t̷o̵ ̷s̸t̴o̸p̴ ̷m̵e̶e̴t̸i̸n̸g̶ ̸l̷i̸k̸e̶ ̵t̵h̷i̸s̷,̷ ̵b̴e̷a̸u̷t̵i̷f̵u̴l̴,̷” The man chuckled as he turned to the crime lord with an outstretched hand. Jason just snorted and took the offered hand, “ Can’t help the life I live, Casper.” was heard over the comms. The being just laughed at the nickname.
“ Bloody hell…Bats, your son just summoned the Ghost King… ” Constantine whispered.

Story idea for masters of the universe revolution.
Skeletor, remembering he is actually Keldor, decides to try being an actual king now that he pretty much is in the leading position he wanted.
He stays in his Keldor guise, now fighting on the side of the good guys, not that those know it.. Yet.
A story about Skeletor being a good king (somewhat), Adam actually liking his uncle and Hordak of course destroying that happy illusion of Skeletor thinking his plan of not revealing himself could work out.

Let's talk catnap from the 3 chapter of poppy playtime. (spoilerish for those who haven't played/ watched it yet)
The design. Amazing. But I feel horrible seeing a cat so terrible skinny he would have starved long ago.
Anyone else getting that irresistible feeling of needing to feed the extra big cat?
Had the same terrible sadness when the one he saw as his hero killed him. Kitty thought the Prototyp his personal deity, and even badly hurt still took on a kneeling position of reverence before being suddenly killed.
And while he surely was crazy in his reverence to the Prototyp, gone enough to end the other smiling critters (even having dogday, barely alive, behind bars with his bottom half missing)..
According to the VHS tape in the school, he saved the children of the orphanage, bringing them to a save place where the teachers couldn't get to them.
So he didn't kill indiscriminately like the others. (the teacher did admit that she would have killed them, had catnap let her get to the children)
So thinking about that (and my heavy favoring bias towards cats) I would have loved if we could have had the chance to have catnap as an ally, to get him to help us or at least to let us go without going after us.
Also I do still wanna feed the cat a big can of tuna.
#poppy playtime#poppy playtime 3#catnap#i would love to have the big cat as a friend.#Let me feed you giant kitty#Where are those children you hid away anyway

*slams the door open* I am? Once again a GENIUS!
Give that Witchboy a baby!
Klarion! Lord of Chaos, good looking young man of FABULOUS hairstyles, partner in crime of the MAGNIFICENT Teekle... is? In a bit of a pickle. Tiny bit of a problem. Itty, bitty, theoretically possible touch of a CONCERN, if you will. Might even have done goofed.
See, and he knows this is out of character for him, he THOUGHT? It would be funny? To play a... a LITTLE, tiiiiny, harmless bitty joke on the Lord of Time. Ha ha... funny right? We're all joking around~! H-having a LAUGH?
....please don't unwind me into unexistence! We're too hilarious and gorgeous to die!
You wouldn't kill a kid with a cat, would you!?
And, yeah, maybe he and Teekle start monologing. Dramatically lamenting how Teekles care routine is going to RUINED and they are going to DIE, how no one can take a JOKE, trying to bargin their way out of their impending demise. Etc etc. But?
Then? The Lord Of Time muses that Teekle IS very well cared for? And?
Look, buddy, kill him or don't kill him! You're not gonna get Teekle! Keep your filthy cat molesting hands to yourself! No one touches his baby!
That's apparently the "right answer".
He suddenly has a God Toddler in his other arm, cradled against his chest, right next to Teekle. W-What? The Price(TM) for Sparing His Life(TM) is raising and protecting his... WAIT, WHAT!?
Klarion become a Teen Dad. Teekle become a Cat Parent. Both are baffled and highly alarmed. What has happen to their eternal Hot Chaos Summer!? Fast cars and the country side filled with frogs that are on fire? Milk shakes and rattlesnakes down peoples shirts?
Parenthood?!?! This is going to RUIN ALL THEIR FUN PLANS!
..........or......or IS it? Teekle, hear him out, what if? We take the glow potato? WITH us? It's a baby! They don't do much. Probably good enrichment or something! Yeah! We'll get one of those baby carriers and just? Rain on the Justice Dorks parade, WITH A BABY! That's EXTRA embarrassing for them!
We could have matching outfits!
Nevermind! I saved it! Teekle, we're geniuses. Let's go rob some baby stores! Come on, Jr.! Time to learn Daddy's favorite past time! CHAOS.

dp x dc Chronos
An idea that’s probably been touched on before but well.. once more!
~
It had begun with a meltdown. Being a fifteen year old was tough. High school was the time in your life where you were picking up life skills without even knowing it. Social skills, study habits, responsibilities stacked on responsibilities. It all seemed rather unfair when their brains weren’t done developing yet or… whatever Jazz had been telling him one afternoon.
The point was, being a teenager wasn’t all making memories and messing around. It was hard. Add on dying to that work load and things got complicated. Add on a ghost portal that allowed ghosts to come and go as they pleased when you were the only one that could safely stop them and things got stressful.
Parents that were trying to kill you…went without saying.
Become a king of a realm by fifteen, and see how you handle the sudden workload. Danny had been holding up fine, until he wasn’t. Until a particularly loud boom in his parents lab from whatever their latest torture invention was cause a tremor of fear to shoot up his spine. In an instant, panic was sparked. He wanted to leave, he thought about it often, but how could he just leave Amity Park behind? Would it be better outside of his parents house? Could he live alone?
The fear latched onto his core, and not being able to relax in his own haunt was apparently counterproductive to a healthy, happy halfa.
Before dying, Danny hadn’t been familiar with panic attacks, now, they weren’t entirely uncommon. One moment he would be overthinking in his bedroom, the next he’d be on his bed or the floor curled up in a ball. Tears flowing and throat clogged, he would sob under the weight of his responsibilities in silence. He doubted his parents would notice, but he hated to worry his sister. Being quiet was a must.
It was one of these episodes that had led to Clockwork appearing in his room, lifting Danny up into his arms like a child without even a weak protest. A post-it was left for Jazz so she wouldn’t worry and the king was returned to the Infinite Realm for a night.
That was the start of Danny spending time in Clockwork’s citadel any time he was feeling overwhelmed. Being outside of time, he was given the time to relax, sleep, or study. It lessened the burdens of trying to be a normal high school student, hero, and king all at once, or at least gave him a safe place to crash.
At least once a week, Danny made his way into Clockwork’s lair, long since allowed to enter on a whim unless expressly told otherwise for a day or two. For all Danny was king, he did his best not to interrupt Clockwork’s work and he knew beings from other dimensions popped in from time to time.
If Clockwork didn’t want him meeting them, he was going to take his opinion to heart and make himself scarce.
Danny wasn’t sure why he got the privilege to hide behind the ghost of time but he didn’t shun the offer. Any chance to get some sleep was a good one when he had ghosts like Skulker or Johnny waking him up at three in the morning with their bullshit.
Danny floated over a sofa, backpack forgotten on the floor and books hovering around him. The crown that hovered above his head kept going back and forth between being covered by ice or green flame. It seemed to do what it wanted like a living creature.
Danny had his own room in the citadel now but he was positive the sofa was put in Clockwork’s viewing room just for him.
He slept there more often than not.
“Hey Clockwork.” Danny called. He’d be ignored if Clockwork was deep into peering into the past for future, but would otherwise get an answer. “Can i ask you a question?”
In the time it took Clockwork to turn to face Danny, his age had altered subtly, five or ten years younger than middle aged.
Danny had always thought Clockwork had three ages he shifted between. His child form, middle aged adult, and old man. The longer Danny stayed in the citadel though, he learned that wasn’t the case.
He’d seen Clockwork go from an old man, to a man about twenty. He’d slowly shift younger and younger through his teens until he stopped in his child form. Danny had seen the opposite too. Clockwork as a young preteen growing into an adult in the span of a breath. Dark circles would appear under his eyes and laugh lines etched into his face of a much older man but Danny wouldn’t have called that form elderly.
It was fascinating.
“What can i do for you, Majesty?” Clockwork asked, a hint of a smile already curing his lips. He likely already had the conversation they were about to have memorized.
Danny groaned. “Can’t you just call me Danny? Majesty is so… so…”
“Accurate?”
“Bleh…” Danny muttered, slowly floating until he was upside, but his book turned with him so he could continue to look at it.
Clockwork only laughed at him, that soft noise that said he was amused at Danny’s plight, but Danny was far from offended by it.
“You’re the master of time, right, but were you the god of time too?” He pointed at his textbook, crown on top of his head doing slow flips. “Chronos?”
“Ah,” Clockwork chuckled, arms crossing over his chest. His de-aging had abruptly stopped and he instead started growing older again. “Indeed. We are the same.”
“Really?” Danny perked up and went back to skimming his book while rotating in the air. The edges of his wispy hair were looking like smoke. “So you were an ancient Greek god? That’s cool.”
“Yes and no.” Clockwork said with a shrug. “Time is a funny thing. I was there, of course but more in the capacity of their stories. I predate the Greeks.”
“Huh,” Danny hummed, growing quiet again as he read a little more but Clockwork didn’t return to his parade viewing. He instead waited for Danny to continue. “So wait, you were one of the first… titans.” he read. “Cool.”
“Yes.” Clockwork agreed, “That was a very long time ago now.”
Danny quirked a brow at a line in the book and glanced back at Clockwork. “‘Destructive and all-devouring’, huh?”
“I was young.” Clockwork agreed, not bothering to deny it. “We all have that phase.”
“Uh huh… How did this rule of yours coincide with Pariah Dark?”
Clockwork grew older still, his beard starting to grow. He also relaxed into a floating/sitting position. “They didn’t really. Much of what you are reading is a mortal human interpretation. If you think stories in your high school become exaggerated, you should hear the true origin stories of the ancients sometime.”
Danny was snickering. “I’d actually like that but none of them like talking about stuff like that. Did you really eat your kids?”
“Something to that effect. I’m afraid i was not a very good father. I was at a very different place in my life then.” Clockwork said. He didn’t sound particularly proud of it, but he didn’t look broken- hearted either.
Danny didn’t quite get it. Clockwork had basically been his ghost guardian long before he’d even known that was a thing. He probably would have just assumed Clockwork would make a good dad. Then again, being a ‘present’ dad was probably tough for the god of ‘time’.
“Hm,” Danny hummed and flipped the page while floating right side up again. He rubbed at his face, the constellation freckles across his cheeks twinkling. “Wait. Wait, wait, wait.” Danny muttered, clearly reading through a paragraph.
Clockwork’s shoulders were shaking with quiet laughter. It wasn’t usually this easy to coax Danny into doing his homework.
“You died. Zeus kills you. Did Zeus kill you? Your son?”
“Yes.”
There was a moment where Danny’s face warped into something like grief before it disappeared, suspicion forming in it’s place. “Did you know that was gonna happen? Did you let Zeus kill you to maintain a good time line? Did you know you’d just be the ghost master of time?”
Clockwork just smiled and shrugged.
“Ancients!” Danny cursed. “Are you serious? You were looking that far ahead already? Even then? That’s insane.”
“I have not confirmed or denied anything. On the other hand, we all have our talents.” Clockwork mused. “Does this knowledge entertain you?”
“I mean, it’s cool.” Danny muttered again. Clockwork wasn’t usually so chatty but he was more likely to tell him past things opposed to future things.
He went back to reading and Clockwork went back to his viewing clocks. It was only a few minutes before Danny spoke again.
“The Elysian Islands. Are those in the Infinity Realm?” Danny asked, “They sound familiar.”
“Yes.” Clockwork mused. “And before you ask, Zeus didn’t actually have anything to do with them and Pandora would get huffy at the mere mention of it.”
“Are other gods in the infinite Realm?”
“Some, but not many of the ones in your book there.” Clockwork said, twirling the staff in his hand. Danny could tell he was doing something along the time stream but Danny had no idea what and he didn’t ask. He was not looking to get sent on another timeline errand. “There are other places where they reside. Some even living. Those in the realm however, are your subjects.”
“Oh.” Danny muttered, getting the same sour look he got when he was reminded he was king.
Clockwork lowered his staff, done with his chore. He hovered closer to Danny now, ruffling his hair and dislodging his crown which spun around of its own accord on top of Danny’s head. The sentient accessory very much attached to its new wearer. “If there are any in the Infinite Realm who find you lacking, you need not pay them any mind. Pandora, Fright Knight, or Frostbite would be more than happy to deal with them. You have every right to be here.”
Danny just grunted. Peer pressure was hard enough at school. It was worse in the Infinite Realm. “I’m not looking for fights.”
“You do not need to prove yourself. You’ve done that enough. You must merely be you to succeed. You are balance, and balance in life will find you soon enough.”
“Awe, you haven’t said anything cryptic to me all day. I was starting to get worried.” Danny muttered, a smile tugging.
“I would never make you go without.” Clockwork said with a fond roll of his eyes. He was so old now that his beard nearly touched the floor.
“Ancients forbid.” Danny muttered, snagging his book out of the air. “Wait, did you say there were some living? Wait.” His mind whirled to a previous school assignment. “Isn’t Wonder Woman’s dad supposed to be Zeus. Is Wonder Woman your granddaughter?”
Clockwork just smiled and ruffled his hair again. “Don’t you have homework to finish?”
“Oh Ancients! She is. Classic deflecting. Holy crap.”
He let himself drop onto the sofa, over dramatic with his realization. “You have ties to the Justice League!”
Clockwork did sigh that time. “A charming notion, i suppose.”
“You’ve as good as admitted it!” Danny grinned, pleased to have learned something new. Had it been anyone else, he might have thought he learned something Clockwork didn’t want him to know. Clockwork knew everything though and only let slip what he wanted to.
“You are a hero yourself, Danny. No need to be enamored with the League.” Clockwork turned to go back to work, eyes scanning screens before him.
“Yeah but they’re real heroes.” Danny grumbled, opening his book again. Clockwork’s lack of response meant he wasn’t going to answer that line of thinking. “Fine…”
The two of them were left in a comfortable silence for a few minutes more until Danny broke it himself. Even though Clockwork knew it was coming, he still jumped when Danny gasped harshly from excitement.
“Saturn! You’re Saturn! Saturn is like, one of my top three favorite planets!” It was the pure joy on Danny’s face that had Clockwork laughing this time.
“You would have a top three.”
“Of course i do!”
The door had been flung open for him to now talk about space and precisely why he had so many favorite planets specifically. Clockwork let him, happy to let one of his obsessions take its course. Talks about space banished all thoughts of the Justice League and ‘real heroes’.
Danny knew he’d have to take his history books with a grain of salt. Eaten children or no…Clockwork had always been a good guardian to him. ~~ I might add on to this… It’s almost like Danny was reading the same wiki page on Chronos that i was… lol

The feeling of getting dragged down a new rabbit hole is crawling down my spine.... And I am so ready for it.
I think there’s potential chemistry between Dan and Fright Knight.

Remember this post?
We don’t know much about how they know each other or how they met. The most we get in TUE is Fright referring to Dan as “master”. In spite of the little info we get, I can reference to Fright giving his services to the most powerful ghost in the Ghost Zone. Previously it was Pariah Dark, but in the alternate timeline it’s Dan since Pariah at that point is still sealed in the Sarcophagus.
So that leaves how did they meet? And why does Fright Knight specifically only work with ghosts who have the most power?
They probably didn’t meet right away. Fright would’ve been sealed away in the crumbling ruins of Pariah’s Keep.
Considering just how powerful Dan is, chances are Fright probably sensed that power even from such a considerable distance. Even if not physically present, he still probably felt that immense power reverberating through the Zone.
Immense, overwhelming, hungry. It seeps deep into Fright, an addicting, acidic taste. He relished in it.
More under the cut because I spent far longer than I should have writing this _(-ω-`_)
As curious as he may be, he doesn’t know who or what this power is. Unless his sword is removed and he’s freed from his prison, all Fright can do is sit and bide his time. He does however, have a continuous feed of the power surges.
Dan probably didn’t consider Fright Knight at first. Maybe nearly forgot that the ghostly knight was sealed away. He doesn’t need another obstacle in his way. Oh, it’d be fun for sure, but Dan does tire quickly of the same enemies over and over again.
The frequency of his attacks has slowed down. Dan’s becoming aimless and restless. Both humans and ghosts fear him. He can’t possibly gain any more than that.
Dan is bored.
Admittedly, he occasionally wonders about having someone just…not fight him for a change. Or at least not try to destroy him on a daily basis, Dan didn’t want himself going slack.
The thought does eat at him. Who’d want someone like him? Not likely very many, Dan would bet.
He tried to ignore it but he couldn’t help feel a small pang of…loneliness. Dan had grown pretty used to it. It still didn’t erase the fact that he felt it.
It wasn’t like he needed someone. Just…someone to be there.
Dan shook it off. He was going to drive himself insane going around in circles. He didn’t need anything, to be held back. Dan was very much capable on his own.
Since Dan was getting tired of the same faces showing up over and over again, even when he beat them and made sure they knew it. He goes out to seek out potential new opponents who could actually keep Dan on his toes.
There’s no one in specific. He wanders far and wide across the Ghost Zone. Ghosts of all kinds veer away from Dan, fearing retaliation if they came across him. Deeper and deeper in the never-ending depths. Ghostly doors and isles so lonely that they may as well be calling out.
Ancient, ruined rocky ruins of ghost lairs long past. Hardly interesting, but Dan does feel a pull. Something in his gut that says keep going. The haunting lull of an old isle he was aware of, though very few ghosts ever visited it. Not really a “call” per say, Dan just had that deep gut feeling that he’d find something waiting for him there.
Battle scarred and scorched rocks and ruins greet him. The remnants of a massive fortress sit atop a huge chunk of rock. Just barely large enough to hold it all up. An ominous sensation came over Dan as he approached it, he barely even blinks at it.
Dan gets excited, though he doesn’t understand why.
Past the blown apart gates and into the halls of Pariah’s Keep. It is undeniably empty, barely any amounts of ecto energy flowed through here. The creaks and groans of the old foundations spelled danger. Dan supposed he should be quick about it lest he gets interrupted by something inane.
The tall, foreboding walls loom over him as he approached the main room. Dan can feel the impressions of a time long past. An elaborate and ghostly throne room in disarray. Cracks, debris, craters and scorch marks told Dan all he needed to know.
Barely minding attention to the large sarcophagus that rested at the top of a winding stairway, an eerie purple aura lured Dan away. It was barely noticeable and a faint hum emitted from it. It seemed familiar, the way it reached out to him.
Far off to the side in the shadows. Innocuous and so close by yet out of sight, easily missed.
The purple aura unveiled itself in the form of an eerie Jack-o-Lantern. Its wide, demented expression stared right through Dan. A wariness came over him in the form of a tingle down his body, which Dan was admittedly impressed by.
Curiously, a large, sharp green sword is impaled through the fruit. Dan could barely stand looking at it. The blade seemed to sing out to him, whispered of secrets and fears untold. The metal rang dangerously in Dan’s ears.
Curious indeed as to why the blade was struck through the pumpkin.
What if Dan removed the sword?
After all the world had tried to throw at him, there couldn’t possibly be something any worse than that. Dan…wasn’t that young anymore, his very being was hardened and refined to a point it seemed inhuman.
Hands loosely held the hilt at first, then reflexively tighten. With very little effort, the sword is pulled free. A wave of ominous, overwhelming spectral energy surged out. Dan skidded back a bit, his boots dug into the ground. He retained balance and fought against the unnatural gust of wind.
As soon as it started up, it suddenly fettered out. Only a faint whoosh indicated it ever even happened. The sword felt heavy in his hands, his strength wavered ever so slightly. It seemed as though the blade didn’t want him holding it.
Too true when Dan sensed a presence behind him. He swiftly swung the sword and with a loud clang, he skidded back in the other direction. The sword vibrated in intensity in his hands.
Dan marvels at the sight before him.
True to the name, the dark and fiery visage of Fright Knight stood over Dan. If only because the sword was getting heavier the longer Dan held it. The two green voids that were Fright’s eyes glared down at him.
“The sword, give it to me.” Fright beckoned with a hand.
Dan shot a fanged grin at his newest, potential adversary.
“You want it so bad? Come and get it!”
They’d fight, play a game of cat and mouse. They barely noticed they were equal on the power scale. Hardly distracted by the commotion they stirred up around themselves, too focused on each other.
Even though Dan isn’t all that experienced with swords, he does notice that Fright Knight went out of his way to avoid touching the blade itself. Twisting, parrying, maneuvering. Yet so persistent on getting it back.
Dan gets an idea. He was known for many things, if it had to be just one, it was that he was mischievous. Not just mischievous, a specific, malignant brand of mischief.
I headcanon that ghosts have ecto energy ‘flares’, or a ghostly ‘aura’. It’s mostly passive, but flares out with strong emotions. To display dominance for example, to show that they’re strong and not to be messed with.
Dan most definitely uses this to his advantage. He is a domineering ghost, depending on the context.
He flares his powerful aura at one point, invisible and heavyset to anyone in the closest vicinity to it. Loose objects clattered around him, a breeze blew through Dan’s cape. His eyes became a deeper, glowing red.
Fright Knight felt it. He stalled, amazed at the burst of energy. Lively and addicting, perhaps inviting. He very clearly underestimated this ghost, he had not relished in such an energy surge since Pariah Dark’s brief reawakening long ago.
Unfortunately, Fright stalled long enough for his opponent to get the upper hand on him. Fright is momentarily startled by a blade that impaled itself into the wall, right next to his head. He craned his head to meet the deep, eerie red eyes of his adversary.
“You felt that, didn’t you?” Dan asked him with a smug grin.
Fright remained silent, deep in thought.
Now that the situation was quiet for the moment, Dan decided to study the ghostly knight. He was still undecided whether to continue treating him as a foe, or branch out to him as a potential ally. Though unrelated, Dan did see that Fright Knight was a similar physique to him. The knight’s mysterious features hidden within a helmet. Dan was intrigued, and he wanted to know more.
“Not bad at all,” Dan said, gesturing at Fright. “Looks like you were holding back though.”
He slowly pulled the sword away, the wall crumbled with age and damage. Scarred and never forgetful.
“What would happen if I were to drive the sword through you?” Dan’s grin upturns into a malicious smile. “Want to test it out?”
Rather than verbally respond, Fright gestures one hand.
The sword violently shook in Dan’s grip. It glowed faintly before it ripped itself out of his hand and back to its rightful place. At Fright Knight’s side.
Dan didn’t react. Instead, he was more interested than he was before. Oh, he was a bit irked that he lost the sword so easily. But it could be forgiven, if Fright gave him a good enough reason.
“We needn’t joust,” Fright stated neutrally, his eyes warily fixated on the Phantom before him. “You’re powerful.”
“Oh, liked that little display, huh?” Dan cocked his head playfully. He wondered if there could be more gained out of this. “You’d better believe it, I make sure those who get in my way never forget it.”
“I only serve those who have shown their power and might.” Fright continued, pretending he didn’t notice the playful advances. “I strike fear into those who dare stand in my way.”
Fright paused.
“You too were holding back.”
“…I suppose I was.” Dan rolled his eyes.
“I propose a…partnership,” Fright Knight said slowly. “You have someone watch your back, make certain that your seat of power is not threatened.”
Dan leaned in closer, listening intently. “Go on…”
“And I rejuvenate myself with the energy you expel.” Fright Knight finished, he stood stiffly. His hand twitched on the hilt of his sword.
“Sounds like you want more than just a ‘partnership’.” Dan approached Fright, amusement shone in his eyes.
“I did not say that,” Fright said stoically.
They were face to face.
“Mm…we’ll see about that.” Dan stepped away, his gaze never left. “Though I think this will be quite entertaining.”
He held a hand out, a branch of sorts.
Fright stared for several seconds before he too reached out. His and Dan’s hands firmly clasped around each other’s forearms. Sealing a pact, so to speak.
“Your name. I do not know what to call you,” Fright stated, his grip tightened.
Dan was quiet for a moment before he bared his fangs, his ghostly aura flared ever so gently. “Phantom.”
I’ll probably write a more coherent version of their meeting later. But, the big question at hand. Why does Fright Knight only work with powerful ghosts? My guess is because of what type of ghost he is.
You notice that he has very minimal features? His body seems to be a pure black, the most he wears is his armor, the rest uncovered. Probably because he doesn’t need to cover up fully. Another ghost I can think of that does something similar is Spectra.
What if Fright Knight is the same type of ghost as Spectra? A “parasitic” type of spirit that leeches off the emotions, energy, or a mix of both, from others.
Spectra leeches off the depression and negative emotions of human children.
Fright Knight leeches off the fear he strikes into others, and perhaps the immense power of ghosts that are equal in strength, or far stronger than he is. To give him a boost when he needs it. Or would it be to maintain a solid form?
Fright and Dan’s “partnership” probably started off just like that, a business-like deal that benefits them both. Fright strikes fear wherever he goes, Dan made sure those who opposed them stayed down. That’s all it was really.
Dan didn’t find it very fun.
He was far too interested in knowing who and what Fright Knight was to just keep it business-like.
Fright was too stoic for Dan’s liking. While Dan had absolutely no qualms about entertaining both guys and ladies, it seemed like he had his work cut out for him. Fright was an interesting kind of guy, not too many like him around. Dan wanted Fright to stick around.
Dan knew there had to be more of Fright from under the hood. He’d bring it out, one way or another. Fortunately, wherever he went, Fright was usually close behind.
As for Fright Knight, he actually didn’t know what to think of Phantom at first. Powerful and volatile. Temperamental and yet eerily calm. It seemed as though as piece was missing. Whatever that was, it wasn’t Fright’s business. He was perfectly content as is. If only he could ignore Dan’s more playful persona. It wasn’t constant, but enough so that Fright did take notice.
Fright felt he should be annoyed by such behavior. For reasons indiscernible to him, he allowed it. In small doses. He supposed it was amusing, and so long as it didn’t interrupt their little deal.
It’s like a game of cat and mouse, though subtler. They both had thoughts about each other. Neither came forward, or said them out loud. It was more satisfying that way in trying to figure each other out.
What was more notable was that they respected each other’s power. They rarely depended on each other past watching the other’s back. It was oddly an inkling sense of trust, no matter how surface level and frail it was.
They’d have short conversations on occasion, when it was quiet. They didn’t say too much to each other, but they’d let bits and pieces of information slip out. Intentional or not was left up to interpretation.
Fright Knight, as Dan learned, was completely and utterly ruthless. Literally none could escape the terror that was the Soul Shredder. As for what happened to people and ghosts when the sword touched them, Dan could only imagine. A well-earned reputation as the feared ghost of Halloween.
And…Fright was strangely courtly. Of course, he would be, he’s the ghostly equivalent of a medieval knight. Cordial in a gruff manner. Fright was a warrior first and foremost.
It reminded Dan of himself a little, he was certain he had a chance. He just had to nudge it somehow. Fright clearly did notice how Dan would occasionally act playful, despite pretending not to. What if he pushed at Fright a little? Get him to react?
The reactions could be case by case. Dan was sure it would be worth it to see such a strong and stoic guy get his “feathers” ruffled. Dan could already imagine it; Fright Knight’s eyes were rather expressive.
Fright would most definitely be aware of Dan’s…affections? He refused to entertain the idea of flirting…courting with someone outside of his station. It wasn’t seemly for him. Admittedly, he was amused by it, but didn’t reciprocate them.
It did seem like Phantom was lonely. Fright understood that in a way. He was somewhat taken with Phantom’s advances, no matter how much or little attention he paid. Fright would remain at the forefront, no matter how much the thought of a powerful partner at his side niggled at the back of his mind.
He didn’t mind having Dan close by, that’s all there was to it. Surely…
#This is a ship I have never thought about#And now I will never stop thinking about it#Bless you for giving this ship to the world.

I see all this fantastic a glitch in time fanart and those amazing fanfics, and I have to try and not look too closely, cause I have not been able to read the comic yet.
Not for lack of trying. I pre-ordered it on Amazon months ago, but when it came out and the shipping day arrived, it told me they don't have it in stock anymore and they would send me an email when they have it again. :(
Im curious if anyone else has that problem of not getting their copy.
And I haven't been able to find the comic anywhere else that would ship soon. Which is a real bummer.
It's so hard to not spoil myself fully haaa
