                   𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐬  𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞  𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 ,    the  sound  reverberating  in  the  center  of  her  chest .   crimson  flashed  in  sync  with  the  screeching  alert .    fingers  curled  tightly  around  her  wrist ,    yanking  her  through  thick  plumes  of  smoke .    when  the  attack  occurred  was  still  a  mystery ,    but  the  ship  had  fallen  into  complete  chaos .    it  was  every  man    &    woman  for  themselves  now  as  the  enemy  blew  a  chasm  through  metal    &    wire .    

                   in  the  thick  of  it ,    he  released  his  grip  on  her ,    skidding  to  a  stop  at  a  malfunctioning  door .    silver    &    yellow  stood  out  against  the  soot  coated  metal ,    washington  now  exerting  all  semblance  of  strength  to  pry  the  door  open .    a  thick  static  rolled  into  her  mind ,    blank  stare  fixated  on  him .    wet  warmth  had  pooled  in  the  back  of  her  helmet ,    gluing  golden  strands  down  to skin .        

                   he  turned    &    seemed  to  be  yelling ,    asking  for  help  maybe ,    but  she  just  can’t  comprehend  it .    everything  is  spinning    &    rot  has  crept  into  her  mouth .    helmet  is  peeled  off  with  an  urgency ,    the  blonde  staggering  into  the  wall  before  vomiting  whatever  lined  her  stomach .    blood  drips  from  the  tip  of  her  ponytail ,    slicked  along  her  jaw    &    spilling  from  her  temple .    

               a  smile  seems  misplaced  here ,    lashes  flutter  like  the  wings  of  a  moth  struggling  in  thick  tar .    he  is  kneeling  besides  her  now ,    hands  pressed  on  each  side  of  her  face .    “   when  did   his  helmet  come  off ?    why  does  he  look  so  scared ?    “    buffy  thinks ,    but  a  fog  ushers  any  more  inquires  away .    words  seem  so  distant  when  he  speaks ,    pleading  as  foreheads  touch .     ❛   waashie .    i’m  righttt  he--   ❜    body  slumped ,    eyes  rolling  back  as  the  world  went  to  a  new  shade  of  black .

              𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐮𝐦  𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐬  𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝  𝐭𝐡𝐞  𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐭  𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬  𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐥𝐝 ,    the  two  navigating  between  fresh  felt  bouquets .    patrolling  brought  solace  on  most  occasions ,    a  clarity  that  seemed  to  be  bestowed  upon  slayers  alone .    brows  were  knit    &    burdens  heavy  upon  her  shoulders ,    for  the  apocalypse  always  came  with  an  air  of  uncertainty .  

               prepared  or  not ,        that  beast  was  bound  to  rear  it’s  head .    the  severity  of  the  end  of  the  world  was  mostly  down  played ,    a  running  gag  among  the  scooby  gang .    it  was  a  coping  mechanism ,    but  laughing  in  the  face  evil  does  little  to  minimize  the  threat .    rey  had  hardly  witnessed  turmoil  in  buffy ,    this  drawn  out  silence  seemingly  uncharacteristic .    vampires  were  dusted  without  a  single  quip ,    demons  beheaded  in  a  begrudging  manner .   

                prying  was  utterly  useless ,    questions  rolled  off  the  back  with  chaste ,    restrained  answers .    “  i’m  okay .  “  or  “  just  thinking .  “  or  the  biggest  offense  of  all ,    “  it’s  nothing .  “    buffy  summers  seemed  to  be  no  more ,    replaced  with  a  warrior’s  resolve  to  protect .    this  was  an  unacceptable  reality  to  the  other  woman ,    so  rather  than  poke    &    prod  further ,    rey  changed  her  approach .   

                 a  hand  poked  out  between  blades  of  grass ,    dirt  covered  fingers  clawing  at  the  air  behind .    rey  was  already  plucking  the  vampire  from  his  grave  before  buffy  could  turn ,    spewing  out  a  freshly  concocted  pun .    confusion  registered  first ,    the  tip  of  her  nose  crinkled  at  the  sound  of  the  word  salad .    what  followed  was  contagious  laughter ,    tears  welling  in  the  corners  of  her  eyes  as  buffy  fought  for  sweet  oxygen .   ❛   i  am  totally  stealing  that !  ❜
