wanna b**** about emailing companies

How to put it mildly? They are just a big waste of time, more precisely mine. And my time is precious. 

Don’t get me wrong cos email is a fantastic medium. Just look back at ourselves around 1999 (this is when I first started using email). It was awesome back then (and definitely hype), it is stil pretty awesome actually. But this is not the conception emailing companies have...

In my job, not a week goes by (<- gross exageration but ok) without being contacted by companies offering to email “the best targeted highest spender 24 to 50 yo person of [country you want to sell your stuff in]”...

I’ve been working as a marketeer since 2006. So let’s make the total together: 9 years, 52 weeks per year, 1 emailing company per week... so an amazing 468 sales pitch I had to endure plus shitload of emails to say “thanks but no thanks”. How many of them companies are out there? It is unbelievable. 

And they all say the same thing: we have the best addresses, the others are rubbish, we are different, we are better and more. They also always share their (conception of a) success story: salesman “look at this awesome campaign we did for Renault (the car maker)...  me “duh! yeah, if 1 car is sold, the campaign is paid for”. Piece of wisdom #1: large companies are NOT good examples. They just don’t care. They call it the marketing mix (and they all repeat the same buzzwords empty of meaning in their brainstorming meetings) and one emailing campaign is a drop in the ocean of their marketing spending. How do you I know? I work for small businesses (and I love it), so been there done that. €10,000 budget does NOT mean the same thing for me of for Renault. What works for them won’t work for me. It seems obvious said like that right? Then comes my question: how did you come by all these amazing addresses? It is often via lead generation operation. If you don’t know what that is, think something like “leave us your email address, cross this tiny box with unreadable text and accept we spam you until you die. But hey! you have a chance to win this wonderful vaccum cleaner /  frying pan / slow cooker / oven mits (so shameless they are).  Piece of wisdom #2: nobody likes to enter a giveaway and end up receiving spammy/fishy offers as a trade-off (even if they clicked on the tiny unreadable box). How do you I know? How will you know? Ridiculously low open rate, high spam report, even more ridiculous click-through-rate and no sales. Or maybe 1 or 2 as by accident. You will only be sure they are not ghost address because they will report you as spam. All this hardwork for nothing. So thanks but no thanks! Another day I’ll speak about all the bad I think about affiliate marketing and lead generation (a bit covered today). But it’s been a while I haven’t been exposed to their bullshit so it is bearable.

Le manège enchanté avec Pollux et Margote, Zébulon et Ambroise J’ai décidé de regarder Le manège enchanté avec mon fils aujourd’hui. Mais je ne m’attendais pas à une telle claque : tout est super vieux, les situations, les voix, l’animation, la qualité de l’image. Et pourtant, après les premières minutes (pour s’habituer), on a passé un bon moment, et je préfère même cette version à la moderne en 3D qui manque de "grain” (le comble).

The fun of daycare

Before leaving my bundle of joy at daycare twice a week, we had 2 days to get used to it. I wasn’t worried at all: after all they are professionals.

What surprised me was their question when I picked him up: “He doesn’t sleep much, does he?” And the question/remark kept coming back for the first few days. The only thing I could really say was “yeah, he has never been sleeping much”. While actually, my true feeling was more a combination of #oh really #tell me more and #win 

Should I feel bad about being glad to be back in the office on these occasions?

The day you picked your stroller and car seat

No kidding but this was quite a process.  2 months ago, I had no clue where to start. So I went to my nearby shop, Prenatal. Not to brag, but their b&m store had by far the best price compared with other stores, but also compared with their online store (at least for the model I was going to chose).

I didn’t know what to chose but I was very peculiar on some specifics: 

1. Must be light and compact.

2. Must be easily mounted and unmounted. 

3. Must not be crazy expensive.

4. Must not be a Bugaboo (sorry guys, nothing personal, but just no).

In the end, this is the model who won: Mutsy Evo Urban Nomad. It is going to be Ice blue with silver frame.

Why did it win? 

1. I was able to unmount everything with my pregnant belly without sweating and swearing (which is in itself a victory). Personal note: nobody but me was so adamant about the folding and unmounting possibilities of the stroller. I was the only maniac in the shop doing this, the sales rep had never seen this. But hey! I got the stairs of doom to climb to get in to our house (typical Dutch house), so I decide what is convenient from what is not.

2. Now, the frame of the stroller. Ultra lightweight and compact, it can be folded to an impressive 68x29 cm rectangle of about 8 kg. This is impressive. Seriously. All the other strollers could just be ignored. This frame passed my “foldability” test with 5 stars. As daily, it will be folded to be stored downstairs.

 3. Prenatal (just like BabyPark for that matters) adds a free MaxiCosi (Citi SPS) to the lot. With is pretty awesome. In the end, we are going for another model, but this is mainly because our car doesn’t have Isofix. But this will be the object of another post.

Zwangerschap lange jurk van Franse merk Envie De Fraises

“nog niet gekocht maar ik ga niet lang wachten”

In Utrecht heb je de beste positiekleding winkel ik heb gevisiteerd. Want online shopping is makkelijk, maar als zwangere vrouw, niet so makkelijk. Dus in Utrecht is er de winkel Happy Days. De vrouw daar weet haar job en ik ben heel blij ik ben er geweest.

Dit dag heb ik 3 jurken, 1 borstvoeding top en 1 rokje gekocht.

De beste jurk ik heb gekocht dit dag is een jurk van de merk Queen Mum.

Een andere van de beste merk is Fragile. Het is een Belgische zwangerschapmode merk van Antwerp. Bezoek hun website en enjoy! Ik heb nu een zwarte jurk en een blaue jurk van Fragile, I love them! 

Een problem als jij zwanger bent is niet de top in het begin van de zwangerschap maar de “bodem” van jouw outfit. Rokjes en broeken passen niet meer of voelen zich niet confortable. Dus een nieuwe rokje was belangrijk. In de winkel heb ik gevonden een Queen Mum zwarte rokje: “love at first fitting”.

Als kopen alleen een zwarte jurk ws een beetje saai heb ik ook een borstvoeding top gekocht. Nog van Queen Mum!

Les chats écailles de tortue seraient caractériels ?

En parcourant le site “ikzoekbaas” pour montrer à une copine, cherchant un chat, comment le site fonctionne, je lis la description ci-dessous : “Lovina is een 4 jarige schildpadpoes,met een schildpadkarakter!!” Lovina est une chatte écaille de tortue de 4 ans avec un caractere d’écaille de tortue. eeeuuuuhhhh? Alors l’intarweb est formel, les chats écaille de tortue auraient un caractère particulier, voire de psychopathes. 

Mais comment dire ? Vivant depuis 9 mois avec une chatte écaille de tortue, elle est l'animal le plus doux, le plus calme que j’ai jamais eu. L’adopter a été la meilleure décision que nous (avec mon mari) ayons prise en 2014. Dans une année plutôt pourrie, elle a été notre rayon de soleil.

Apres des recherches googlesques de presque 10 minutes, le mythe est débusqué. C’est une légende urbaine, aussi débile que celles sur les roux. Il apparaît tout de même que c’est une des raisons pour lesquelles il y a beaucoup de chats écaille de tortue (valable aussi pour les chats noirs) dans les refuges. 

Alors que c’est débile. Et si comme nous, vous cherchez à adopter un chat, faites confiance à votre instinct et pas aux on-dit. Visitez les refuges autour de chez vous et vous trouverez votre “perfect match”.

Ill était une fois dans un pays pas si lointain Alex et Arne. Ils vivaient dans une bulle d'inconscience totale. Jusqu'au jour où la question du choix de la poussette, nacelle, siège auto s'est posée... J'ai découvert un monde de choix à te rendre dingue.
