an author i love just tweeted about how “big joy and small joy are the same” and how she was just as content the other night eating chocolate and cuddling her dog as she was on her Big Trip to new york and honestly. i think that’s it. this morning i was listening to an audiobook while baking shortbread in my joggers and i realised i really didn’t care what Big Things happened in my future as long as i could keep baking and reading at the weekend and maybe that is the kind of bar we have to set to guard ourselves against disappointment. just appreciate and cherish the mundane stuff and see everything else as a bonus.

i've got this intense desire to watch anime but... paradox of choice... so, might rewatch Ghost Hunt again..
***
i noticed that i keep starting and bingeing stuff (episodic ones, like anime and drama series, book and manga series, and webnovels) but kept on not finishing them (stopping at ep 9 of a 12-episode anime, or not reading the last 10 chapters of a webnovel) for some reason.
it's weird because i was enjoying them at the time that i was watching/reading them but i was also unconsciously slowing down as i'm nearing the end (savoring the piece and the experience, maybe?) until i just stop, and never go back to it again.
it's not even that i forgot about them since they're still niggling at the back of my mind, wasting thought space.
i know that i should just drop and altogether forget about them. but i can't because (it's a cause of anxiety) i remember absolutely loving a majority of them as my reading taste has been refined to the specific detail and elements that fit my liking over the years of reading (and watching) history and experience and i wouldn't even bother checking a title i'm not even remotely interested in.
it's just really weird and one of those annoying differences i have with my past self who would even sacrifice sleep in order to finish a tome or a chunker of a book in three days.

t'was my bday last jul 14. umuwi si mama during the 12th para maghanda.
weirdd lang to celebrate (yung ipaghahanda) a bday at this age when we never did when we were kids.
pre-pandemic, i used to take a day off and celebrate it alone, dating myself, eating out at Mcdo ('cause college nostalgia), shopping for stationery and journaling supplies, spending most of the day in Booksale, and then going to a nearby cafe before heading home. even went Booksale-hopping once, in Cavite (SM Dasma, RFC Imus, SM Bac) and brought home a shit ton (about the size of a large grocery eco bag) of books, mostly paperbacks. kinda miss those days.
longing to be outside again (i.e., sans face mask and face shield). 2022/23, maybe?

Polaroid (2019)
directed by Lars Klevberg
High school student, who is a photography enthusiast, gets a hold of a haunted polaroid camera. It becomes evident, though, that anyone who gets their photo taken by it dies a horrible and tragic death.
***
I LOVE THIS. Admittedly, this movie doesn't have a lot of greatness to it-- it's kinda generic, has a slow beginning, predictable, and has too many plot holes (the lighting is also too dark and I wonder if that's because of the video quality I watched it in)-- but it's still a really fun watch. Many of my favorite horror tropes are in here and are done well. Not the best but it holds up. Just straight up storytelling of a creepy tale.
The horrors:
haunted camera
ghost in a photograph
ghost in photograph comes after anyone that has their picture taken by the haunted camera
creepy entity in the dark, ala 'Lights Out'

Haunt (2019)
directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods
A group of friends in a haunted house full of violent contraptions meant to inflict pain, mazelike tunnels, and nightmarish rooms-- all these are aimed to kill them off one by one. And that's not counting the haunted house actors who *spoilers* weren't really actors. The chase is on as they try to search for a way out. ( Or is there? )
***
Not actually a fan of this genre but this one's good. I really love the grip-the-edge-of-your-seat, heart-pumping tension. It's violent and bloody and so fcked up. It's also over the top without being too over the top. Just fits my suspension of disbelief and no frustrations on characters' stupid decisions, entering the haunted in spite of the violent scene that welcome them, not counted (since it can be chalked up to great acting by the haunted house peeps).
