I cried when I left for work this morning. I’d like to say I feel truly afraid of working in a hospital where I could be exposed, but that’s not even true. I just have depression and I’m overwhelmed and want to escape. I don’t even know if the state of healthcare and the world has that much to do with it, or if I’m just using that as justification to wallow in my poor mental state.

I wish I cared more about my work. I wish being a resource for patients and families gave me a sense of meaning and purpose, and fueled me to keep going. But the reality is, that if I didn’t financially need to be here, I’d drop it in a second.

I’m grateful to be employed and have a paycheck, but I am definitely struggling.
