It's official. I'm an idiot. I was trying to test an extension cord in my bedroom last Friday. I unplugged what I thought was a random plug from the wall and plugged the cord in. It worked, so I left the extension cord plugged it. Later that same day, I noticed that there was a problem with the wifi in my house. I tried restarting the modem and the router several times to no avail. I accepted that I was going to have to call my internet company to have it checked out.
I spent the weekend packing up things in my living room and spare bedroom. It's where the phone's modem and the internet's modem are respectively located in my house. My brother lives with me and we don't use those rooms so they've become unofficial storage rooms of items our late mother collected while she was alive.
I came home from work today a little bummed that I still had to keep packing things up to donate before I made the service appointment. However, I had a quick thought when I entered into my bedroom (my mom's old room); that it is one room they wouldn't need to have access to. The second that thought came into my brain, I remembered what the plug I unplugged Friday must have been for: the internet.
My dumb ass spent the past almost five days running up my cellphone data and working my nerves over something that I fixed in two seconds. Thankfully, I have unlimited data but having to watch everything on my phone is a little annoying.
My weekend wasn't all bad though. I finally found the energy to start packing up and getting my mom's items out of the house. She died in 2019 and for the past six years, it was too hard dealing with the emotions surrounding them. It felt wrong to do anything with them. As I've been sitting here typing this, I've realized that it's just stuff and it isn't worth the hassle of hanging on to it.
