Some people won't like hearing this. But honestly, you should really try to engage with that underrated/misunderstood/hated female character outside of shipping her with someone, if you truly find her such a cool character. I'm seeing alot of people try to fight the underrepresentation of female characters by just.... Including them in ships more. Those people are often barely a step removed from "OMG she's the team mom girlboss only braincell big sister cool wife girlfriend" type people who think that counts as meaningful engagement, so they can feel good about themselves and then go back to making ten page essays and fics and deep analyses about the male characters again.

Engage with characters outside of shipping.

You can in fact explore a character's relationships and dynamics with other characters outside of shipping. Even then, if you do ship those two characters I really wish I could see more compelling takes about it, rather than reducing them to Ao3 tropes and incorrect quote templates. I'm not sure that all of you even care about the character itself if I'm honest. Some of you just want different colored barbies to make smoochy noises at

Honestly I should talk about the ace experience more. I don’t see enough. Like–obviously it’s dehumanizing to be repeatedly compared to robots or aliens but uh…sometimes it feels like that?? 

My husband will get all horny while I’m, I don’t know, changing out of sweaty gardening clothes. And I’ll be like, “But we have to make lunch?? I stink? Now is not a good time?? I know I’m not the first person to say this but fandom’s seeming need to shove any character dynamic into some kind of familial role (siblings, father-son, mother-daughter etc) increasingly feels just as stifling and dismissive of platonic love as making every relationship romantic does.
