since the war had ended, lafayette hadn’t really heard much from his friend, alexander. he’d settled off in the countryside in new york near gemma’s family in order to make something happen, between them - still trying his best to make things with her father... amicable at least. he was still far too nervous to ask for her hand - especially when he’d seemingly come out of nowhere. despite that, he insisted that he host an afternoon for his friend to come to visit. he greets the gentleman on the step of his home, a wild smile on his face. “it has been too long, mon amie!”

He’s sore, he’s tired, and he’s ready to give in again. The days seemed to drone on with no sense of relief or rest. Which is exactly why he’d sent out a solider to locate officer Deacon. He needed a word. Or multiple of them. When the canvas drapes are shut he looks to her with a soft sigh. “It’s been truly dreadful today. I was hoping your presence would lift my spirits.”
