Item 4. Kufaah.
In my dads interview he speaks about his memories of how he would always find the pot empty whenever he’d try to get food. Therefore I did a continuous shot of myself holding the the kufaah, empty and opening and closing it.
I Chose to do a continuous shot so I could turn them into Gifs as shown above. It looks like it lags which I believe works with my idea of ‘old memory’.
I chose to put the Gif over my dads interview so that people could understand what the Gif is about.

Item 3. Burner.
In my dads interview he speaks about his memories of his mother who would walk around the room holding the burner in one hand and waving the other to keep the burner burning. Therefore I did a continuous shot of myself holding the burner in one hand and waving the other hand above it.
I Chose to do a continuous shot so I could turn them into Gifs as shown above. It looks like it lags which I believe works with my idea of ‘old memory’.

In my dads interview he speaks about getting pricked by one of the sticks that the muknus is made out of. Therefore I did a continuous shot of myself pulling my hand against the muknus in the wrong direction, pricking my finger.

FINAL PIECE: PRINTED NOSTALGIA.
My final piece is an Arabic seating with a contemporary touch. The style and colours and trimmings used are all traditional. The prints however are my touch of contemporary.
Ive fit the seating into a structure that was made into a box so that people can ‘step’ into my printed nostalgia.
To improve I would definitely add more cushions and more seats so that   more people are able to socialise and sit down together.
With the seating I added a small old box tv which played the four videos of my dad’s memories on loop. The TV worked very well on the floor as in tradition, in Yemen the TV’s are normally on the floor.

Creating my Final Piece.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For my final piece i have decided to go for red material, black print in both the digital (contemporary) print and a Lino print (traditional hand made).
Ive also decided to go for some trimmings as i felt the prints would look a little boring on their own. I decided to go the for simpler and more minimal styles as it works with my idea of adding a contemporary touch (print) to a traditional piece ( Arabic seating).

Contemporary Materials.
- Tried out expanding ink.
- Expanding white ink worked however the black expanding ink turned green when steamed.
What worked?
- Felt nice and soft.
What didn’t?
- Messy outcome
What next?
The colour black looked better so i want to continue using that. Therefore i will be using the Sublimation printer in black.
