“It really would be a waste, though I hope they improve things.”

“I really do hope the renovations to the town put things back where they were… eighteen years of, um, muscle memory would really be a shame to go to waste.”

“That was a bit harsh.”

“You’re not seriously thinking of wearing that are you? Because I’ve seen a blind person dress better than you.”

Well, he’ll be thrilled. I’ve been in Vancouver.

I actually haven’t seen him yet. And I was in New York for a while…you?

Amelia smiled. “Of course I do,” she replied. In her mind, it was so obvious. And the fact that he admitted he felt the same way had made all of her hopes come true. As his lips met hers, Amelia closed her eyes, her fingers moving up to curl in his hair as she pulled him closer.

Leo gave her a smirk. “That you love me,” he repeated. After all these years, it was still unbelievable that they were having this conversation. When she looked up at him, Leo couldn’t help but smile as he looked into her eyes. She was so beautiful, and all his. His heart quicken just a moment before he leaned down and places his lips on hers.

Amelia raised a brow and smirked. “Good to know,” she joked with him. “How good it is to hear me say what?” she teased Leo as she squeezed his hand. At his nudging, she tilted her head upwards to look at him, her eyes meeting his. “Hmm?” she asked.

Leo laughed a bit more than he probably should have. “Fine, okay. Point made,” he said with a playful nudge. “I cannot tell you how good it is to here you say that, though,” he said before using his nose to nudge the top of her head to get her to look up.

For the moment, Amelia was content to simply curl into Leo, inhale his scent, and revel in the fact that he loved her. For so long, she had refused to allow herself to believe that this could happen, had refused to even consider the possibility, and now it was laid right in front of her.
She snorted, perhaps a bit unladylike. “No, Leo,” she said, her voice a bit sarcastic. “I’m going to tell you I love you and send you on your merry little way.” She chuckled. “Honestly. Yes, of course we’re going to make this a thing. Make us a thing.”
When Rome’s in Ruins | Ameleo
“Didn’t think so,” he chuckled. Leo’s nerves had yet to calm down, but he wasn’t sure if they would at any point tonight. That’s what he got for assuming he was gonna mess everything up and then all going so well.
As she leaned on him, Leo smiled down at her. “Settle meaning… make this a thing?” he asked letting his fingers join hers softly. “You think we can do that? I mean… I certainly want to…” he mumbled.

Amelia nodded. “That’s right,” she told him with a grin. “You are the dramatic one.” She leaned against the couch and ran her hand through her hair, still finding this whole situation surreal. How could they both have felt this way and not even realized it?
At his comment, she raised a brow. “No,” she told him with a smirk. “That’s not happening tonight.” She smiled and leaned her head onto his shoulder. “I think we can settle for now, don’t you?” She chuckled and intertwined her fingers with his.

“Oh right,” he began with his dramatic voice, “because I’m the dramatic one.” Leo flashed a large grin before following her lead and finishing off his beer as well. That’d probably be the only one he had that night considering how things were currently going.
Leo let out a small chuckle. “Me too,” he said both glad that he told her and letting her know he’d been extremely nervous. “Well,” he said with a sigh. “In my dream world, we’d run off and get married and buy a ranch, but I don’t see that happening tonight,” he teased.

I’ve just been...around. If you mean before I came home, I’ve been in Vancouver.

What does a girl have to do to get some coffee around here?
Sounds great! So where have you been lately?

Amelia rolled her eyes and threw the pillow right back at him. “Well, I’m not exactly going to go be dramatic about it.” She tilted her head to the side and finished her beer, placing the empty bottle on the side table and leaned back against the couch looking at him.
She raised her brow. Apparently she wasn’t the only one who had gotten the dare, though she wasn’t sure if she should say anything now. She simply shrugged. “I hear that’s going around,” she admitted. “But I’m glad you told me. I feel like I’ve been walking on eggshells lately.”
The blonde tucked her legs underneath her. “So, what now?” she asked him with a wry grin.
When Rome’s in Ruins | Ameleo
Leo picked up the nearest pillow and chucked it at her. “Yes, really,” he teased with a laugh. “I wasn’t expecting you to say it back so nonchalantly,” he explained. After all, he hadn’t even really been expecting her to say it at all.
“No…no it’s not,” he had to agree. “I didn’t say anything sooner because I was afraid I’d loose you,” he admitted looking up at her with his big brown eyes. “In fact, the only reason I told you now was because someone else threatened to tell you,” he informed her.
According to the letter, he couldn’t say anything about it if he wanted to win the dare, but he didn’t. He was tired of holding off any longer. The stranger couldn’t do anything to him now.

His reaction gave her pause and she took a second to raise her brow and roll her eyes at him. “Really?” she asked, her voice pointed. “I tell you I love you and that’s your response?” She shook her head theatrically.
“You know,” she said with the same inflection. “Most people would react a little differently. Though it’s certainly not my fault you didn’t tell me until now.” She smirked and took another sip of her drink before looking over at him.
When Rome’s in Ruins | Ameleo
As she began to talk, Leo held his breath. He had no idea what he would do if she didn’t see him the same way. What would happen? Then again, what would happen if she did return his affections?
“Really?” Leo asked with a small chuckle. He was relieved, but he was also extremely surprised. “For so long, and you’ve never gotten around to telling me?” he teased. He couldn’t really blame her, though, considering that he’d loved her for quite some time as well.

She watched his shoulders slump and for the first time that evening, she began to feel a gnawing pang of hope at her chest. Amelia took a deep breath and tilted her head to the side as she watched him, taking another sip of her drink, smile remaining on her face all the while.
When he took her hand in his, Amelia felt as if her heart were about to burst out of her chest. She took another breath and looked into his eyes, unable to look away. And then he said the three words that she had never expected, to hear from him. She’d resigned herself to that fact so long ago that now that he said them, she looked at him dumbly for a moment. She blinked for a moment.
“I,” she began. “I never thought I would hear you say that. God, Leo.” She took another breath. “I’ve loved you since I was 8 and you were 9. I just didn’t...figure it out until later.”
When Rome’s in Ruins | Ameleo
Leo shrugged a bit at her answer. They had never seen eye to eye on this subject, so he thought it best just to drop it.
His shoulders dropped at her words. Of course. Did that mean she hadn’t wanted anything else because she thought about it and never brought it up, or did that mean they had a chance?
Leo raised the bottle to his lips before taking another breath. “Okay…” he started trying to remind himself that she was still smiling, so it had to be his second conclusion. “So have I,” he continued, “and I… Well…” Leo chuckled nervously. He just couldn’t find the words today.
Gathering what he could, Leo smiled at her. She was so beautiful, and he would hate himself if he messed this up. “Amelia…” he started, taking one of her hands in his, “I love you.” There. He’d said it. She had heard it from him first. He just hoped he hadn’t blown one of the most important things to him.

Amelia shrugged. “I suppose it does,” she admitted. “In all honesty, the general terrain here isn’t much different than Vancouver. It’s just what Telluride represents, you know?”
She furrowed her brow as Leo seemed to get a little more nervous with each word that came out of his mouth. She met his eyes and when he asked her the question, she had to stop herself from wigging out. She smiled. “Of course,” she replied.
When Rome’s in Ruins | Ameleo
Shaking his head, Leo sighed. “But it’s got all the great doors stuff,” he said almost pleading with her. After all, that was one of the things they loved doing so much together.
Her smile gave him confidence, even though he had no idea how to proceed. “Have you ever…” he started before looking at the floor. This wasn’t the right time, but she had to hear it from him, not someone else. Leo sighed and looked back into her eyes. “Have you ever thought about us… being more?”
