Your art is really cute and wholesome! If requests are still open, would it be alright to ask for Lumiere and little Julius gushing about how amazing magic is?

Me: I like my characters and would never hurt them
Also me: 5 vs. 5 guild bloodbath and the antagonist is someone who resembles the guild member they lost!  {◕ ◡ ◕}
Oh boy, the antagonist is going to be quite something...

@guildofempyreans
aaa hats super cool, especially the grimoire and exploring tools! And ohh now I get it with the protag… yeah sounds like the guild’s been through a lot & is still (or about to be) going through a lot
I’ve now decided to call my new idea the scroll rental system, and it’s potentially going to be useful for a bit of sneaky foreshadowing!
Things were indeed rough for guild Empyrea because the one who died ended up that way from a traumatic incident where almost all of them were killed and he practically threw himself in harm’s way in the re-match. It’d have been bad enough already if he had actually died then and there, but it was made worse by how they continued to adventure for a good while and he started to act oddly 7 years later.
It’s pretty funny that the boy my Sovereign adopted actually coped much better than everyone else, but he’s no stranger to death after losing his mother and he never wanted to let go of what they both loved again (Singing) after letting it go while he was in the orphanage. Not that my Sovereign handled it well either, considering he introduced his son and announced his departure at the same time and it took him all the courage he had to even do it, on top of cutting off contact with his friends once he left because he wanted to leave while he was still able to pretend that he was somewhat okay.
Naturally his friends did NOT take it well, and one of the reasons why their guild faltered after his death was that they had this belief that their ambitions meant so much less than his life, completely ignoring that he was happy to have been with them. This is something the protagonist calls them out on, that the empty lives they’re leading now is a complete disgrace towards his sacrifice for them- It’s also painful considering the Sovereign struggled for years after his brother sacrificed himself.
As for going through a lot...heh, people are indeed going to die in this and the first boss battle of the story is going to be pivotal to the protagonist’s development because he’s distraught over what he destroyed (That he gets especially upset about it is also foreshadowing towards something bigger) but learns to make something meaningful out of it.

Ooo sounds nice. What kinda new gameplay mechanics have you thought of?
& waaaa,,, what happened to protag to have people not believe he wont die on them? :’’O
The first one is something like a grimoire rental system, which allows the characters to equip skills borrowed from other players to a certain extent (So nothing like damage dealers becoming buffers). It’s a technology that was developed in the protagonist’s kingdom to strengthen its troops, but the nature of these ‘grimoires’ causes them to disintegrate after one Yggdrasil Labyrinth trip.
It’s also rotated once per week and cooperating with other guilds increases the chances of getting them to offer their skills.
The second thing is a little like the malice meter in Shadow Hearts! A second meter fills up as you explore the labyrinth and monster formations become more dangerous as if the monsters are seeking revenge, and elite monsters on the level of FOEs appear when the meter is maxed. Story-wise, this meter is introduced to the party when one of the leading guilds returns with heavy injuries.
The third thing is up in the air but I wanted to make use of adventuring tools such as grappling hooks too. It was pretty cool that you make use of one in Lucent Hollows after all, and as for what happened to the protag, well...
For starters, he’s only 15 when the story starts and everyone else in the guild is almost 30 or above that. He’s also the adopted son of their deceased guild member and the incident that eventually caused his death weighs so heavily on them that they’ve stopped adventuring completely and they only take on a few jobs and there to get by.
Then there’s his personality: He’s an eccentric prince who among other things tries to sing like a bird to understand music better, he’s kind-hearted, caring and overall it looks at first as if he can’t be a great adventurer especially as he barely passed his initiation test with another guild and the guild leader chewed him out.
(Or rather, he’s so similar to his father that his guild members aren’t entirely wrong in suspecting that he might end up the same way. I do seriously mean it)
I guess it’s pretty interesting for a guild to rise up again after a major setback since that’s been a recurring element in EO games, and my previous guild would have taken it extra hard since they were practically invincible in Nexus. There’s a whole lot of feelings to sort out from all the parties involved before they’re even willing to tackle the 1st stratum together and I like that.

You know what’s really funny? When you find out that there’s actually a character who looks very similar to what you had in mind and that character is also similar in quite a few ways to your own:

I’ve been laughing so hard at the resemblance of this guy to my own Sovereign!

More about my new class and story idea below the cut, here’s my initial writeup about the concept.
Tumblr media
Rough idea of how the class looks like and you can make your own at Charat.
The character himself is pretty...special. How special? Well, his intro talks about him being everyone’s errand boy in spite of being royalty, he’s on a quest to mimic birds, he decides to take the adventurer’s initiation test with another guild (His own is made of veterans), almost fails, almost lets a squirrel get away with an Ariadne Thread (Or he would have if they had one) and overall it’s a hot mess where he gets frustrated with himself and his guild because they’ve allowed themselves to decline since his ‘father’ died.
More stuff on how the labyrinth works soon-ish I hope!

This is definitely the prompt for my Hero Cornelius and his latest cute little brother the youngest member of the guild Lumiere, who’s at least not outright lying about going for a late-night walk.
The entire affair makes him somewhat upset that the boy doesn’t seem to trust him enough to talk about something this important but at the same time it causes him to reflect on the nature of their relationship versus the one he had with the previous youngest member of the guild, and whether he’s entitled to such trust when he’s been incredibly protective and came off being distant as a result.
Combining this with prompt 187 would be hilarious since Cornelius wasn’t planning on being that much of a secret keeper and it means the girl in the relationship actually sneaked in, which is just scandalous!
EO Prompt #185
He barely resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Just going for a late-night walk? Yeah, right. He knew exactly where his teammate was walking to. To a certain someone’s place. To a special someone’s place. Why his teammate decided to keep their love affair a secret from him, from the world, he hadn’t the faintest idea. But there had to be a reason. One he likely didn’t understand. Whatever the reason, he would keep it a secret. Until they were ready.

Finally got a decent enough picture, this is my new character for my story! Some short details:
- His name is Lumiere Rossignol Snowveil, successor to my guild’s Sovereign
- His class is Chanteur, which is a WIP that’s a combination of Sovereign and Troubadour and has an additional gimmick of also buffing the enemy
- In a subversion of most common shonen tropes the fact that he’s a prince has nothing to do with how he ends up saving the world. As it stands, he introduces himself as a prince and errand boy in the same go because like all typical shonen protagonists no one takes him seriously
- Actual Disney prince who wants to everyone and everything to hear his song, even the world itself
- Has an actual love interest and isn’t oblivious to her feelings!
- Since he’s attached to an experienced guild he ends up working with another new guild to be acknowledged as an explorer
- He might solemn and formal, but music has a way of changing his mood...extremely so
As for the labyrinth itself my idea is to have the first stratum located outside of the Yggdrasil Tree with cooperation with other guilds necessary to progress. The sixth stratum will be closely linked to the Yggdrasil Project and be very shocking for our heroes, very shocking indeed!
- I might or might not want a certain spoiler character from Etrian Odyssey Nexus to show up in this

Also me: Well...

Now I have yet another idea for an EO story, following the previous post about a new character replacing one of my previous characters.
The class is a new one that I’m drafting up which is based off Sovereign and uses song magic, and this is a continuation of my Nexus guild minus the retired character (Other guilds also investigate along), and the idea is that they find a forgotten city whose trail leads them to a Yggdrasil Tree, but various complications lead to them exploring the other trees.
Spoilers below, I suppose.
Like in all EOs you have a cast of NPCs helping and one of them is interested in the protagonist although she helps everyone equally, and as the plot progresses some of the other guild members end up dying mysteriously from causes that appear unrelated to the labyrinths they were investigating, causes that would look really familiar to us. Then the bombshell drops when you get to the post-game stratum and find broken-down recordings of Patient Zero and the stratum itself is named Ground Zero...
Oh, and the superboss? The wrath of the previous destroyed land!
Stay tuned for updates I guess, I still need to do a decent write-up of the class itself.
Oh, and listen to this if you want to know how screwed will the party be: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGaM07Pc-nI
