one moment in time. a moments pause. take a breath. you're lost in the flow but in there, somewhere, the seconds still . they freeze and crystallise, form a memory. this is your gift. one forgotten and excused, left waiting until you called for it. we are nothing if not reflections of moments past.

Inhye gave a warm smile at the man, tilting her head and tapping her camera bag fondly. "Ah, I'm unfortunately an observant person by profession."
Not that she would have ever snapped evidence of the plants' demise. The poor things were truly in a sorry state. But it was hard not to notice when it was such a regular occurrence. Inhye nodded at his assertion. "Plants are basically children," she said, her smile turning wry, "So finicky. And they don't come with a manual either."
It was sad to hear him resigned to failure. If there was one thing Inhye knew a great detail about, it was persistence. Not horticulture, unfortunately. But she'd done enough to keep her own greenhouse of an apartment alive for the past year.
Glancing away to face the elevator doors again, she pressed on, quieter. "I uh, won't pretend I'm an expert on the subject. Far from it. Some actual florists live in this building... But I might be able to give you some tips? If you'd like, of course." He had every right to deny her. She was practically a stranger. A quick nod toward the shriveled flora. "Or I could at least attend this funeral."

roman’s face warmed a little, recognizing he must have sounded a bit juvenile blaming everyone and everything but himself. β€œanyways, i think this is officially my last attempt. i’m not a particularly spiritual man, but i’m starting to think all this plant death is weighing on my soul.”

β€” Closed starter for Eugene (@3ugene)
He'd caved in again. Usually, Seojin was nothing if not stubborn when it came to late night unplanned trips down to Brewed Awakening. Discouraging himself from developing a habit was why he'd sought a room on the top floor after all. But it had been a particularly bad week. Sleep was alluding him the way shadows outran the midday sun.
And so he found himself in the elevator, his usual lightfooted bounce down to the cafe muted by shame and lack of sleep.
Seojin barely looked up when the doors opened. He was so certain, for a split second, that the person he saw before him when he did raise his eyes wasn't real. That he had actually fallen asleep hours ago, and tumbled into a dream. That had to be it. Because why else would Ki Eugene be standing in front of him? A ghost of a friend long gone. One resolutely unthought of, pushed from his thoughts on late nights like this, regrets and all.
He blinked rapidly. What the fuck was she doing here?
As if sensing his panic, the doors began to slide closed. Seojin hadn't even registered her expression, hadn't even begun to think about what he was doing before he shot his hand forward to keep the doors from closing. "Please tell me I'm hallucinating," he said, still staring at her.

β€” Closed starter for Chiyo (@cageddoves)
Tumblr media
Inhye watched as the ballerina posed to perfection. From the very tips of her fingers to her chin, down to her pointed toes, it appeared as though not a fraction of her was out of place. Chiyo was stunning. Inhye couldn't help but let her eyes travel across her form with an awe and envy that she had long since thought she'd relinquished. Sure, shooting brides constantly gave her a feeling of pride and perhaps longing. But there was something so striking about the way an athlete carried themselves. Something that made Inhye's chest pull tight. It was a beauty she'd left on the ice long ago.
"That's it, good," she said appreciatively, the practiced encouragement coming with ease and shaking her from her reverie. A flash, illuminating the entire space from a millisecond. Shadows fell and faded in one instant. Stepping back briefly, Inhye leaned into her own pose again. This time she crouched low and extended her own foot to capture an angle that gave Chiyo the high ground, the power.
When she'd offered to take Chiyo's professional shots, she'd wondered whether she might be up to the task. Now, it was silly that she'd even considered possible failure. Chiyo made this as easy as breathing. "How long have you been studying ballet for Chiyo?" she asked, hoping to relax the other woman even more. "You look like you could do this in your sleep!"

A peculiarly large crowd of people had greeted Seojin upon stepping into the bookshop that morning. Even his regular hideaway, the sci-fi and fantasy section, was packed to the brim with eager patrons, eyes all flicking over the spines of volumes, searching for their next escape.
He couldn't blame them. Even if he preferred the quiet when Utopia was less rambunctious, there was something nice about the hustle and bustle. It felt like existing alongside friends.
And besides, as soon as he began pouring over the many novels, they could have faded away for all he knew. The whispered words and promise of a new world pulled Seojin in, and his mind began wandering.
Until that is, a pointed voice broke him from his reverie. Looking upβ€”and subsequently, looking down again, this time to his rightβ€”his eyes fell on a head of blonde hair. She sounded reluctant to be asking the question, whatever it was.
He almost had to ask her politely to repeat it, until it finally got through his still faraway mind. A small smile curved at his lips. Now this he could of use of use for. All six foot two of him.
His gaze slid alone the covers until it landed on the one she seemed to be pointing to. "This one?" he asked, though really he hardly had to ask. The design etched onto its side was stunning. His fingers itched to pull it from its resting place.

as her small frame wove through the crowd, grey couldn't help but feel like there weren't normally this many people gathered at utopia. to her knowledge, there wasn't any kind of signing or special guest appearing, and there certainly weren't any notable new releases that day. she supposed it could have been the break in the weather, or possibly even a sale she'd somehow missed.
grey had read all the new books of interest that had come out recently, so she thought she'd simply peruse the bookstore for something that piqued her curiosity. it didn't take her long to come across one, either; on a nearby shelf sat an ornate brown storybook that had gold vines embellishing its spine. her green-blue eyes went aglow at the possibilities of what its front could look like, as well as what sort of book it would be. her money was on a vintage fairytale collection.
softly manicured nails extended upward towards the prize, only to fall many, many inches short β€” something she certainly wasn't new to given she barely cleared five feet tall. even as she rose to her tiptoes and stretched as much as she could, she still had no luck. she considered for a moment doing a small climb up and grabbing it really quickly, but she'd already embarrassed herself that way in the supermarket earlier that week. sparing a reluctant glance to the side, she could only silently ask the favor. "hi, hello, um. i'm sorry to bother you, but do you think you could reach that book up there?"

Seojin drummed his fingers lightly against the countertop as he waited for his usual. The barista was quite familiar with his order now, given he'd grab his last coffee of the day no later than five. He still lived with the vague hope that stopping the caffeine as the sun went down might give him a full eight hours of sleep. Alas, no such luck yet.
Giving a warm smile alongside his thanks, Seojin took the hazelnut macchiato gratefully and made his way to the table he'd been hoarding for the past few hours. What a mess... notes strewn everywhere, laptop still open, barely clinging to its last drop of battery life... Reluctantly he put the takeaway cup down on the one free space and began hastily sorting through the assortment. Not enough hands. He pinched a few sheets of paper between his lips, just in time for him to catch his name amongst the cafe's endless chatter.
Well, maybe not his name. Plenty of Seojin's existed in Seoul. But he'd only ever known one "Jisoo's uncle." Turning on his heels, he spun to face the direction of the voice. When he caught her eye, he pointed at his face. Me?
Ah. Of course, she meant him. Oh Hani. Seojin recognised her instantly, having seen her only yesterday. She'd been holding the hand of his niece as he picked her up from daycare. In an attempt to offer a smile, the papers he had briefly forgotten about cascaded to the floor.
"M-Miss Oh?" he said, now from the floor as he hastened to scoop up his scribbles. Shoot, was that even how he was supposed to refer to her? Seonsaengnim? Would that be more appropriate? He looked up at her and gave a quick embarrassed chuckle. "I'm actually Jisoo free at the moment, thank god, otherwise I'd never live this down."
A drink sat comfortably in her hands, likely acting as a small beacon of warmth. A comfort in the colder weather. He gestured to it. "Have you just left work?"

as much as she loved her jobs and all the kids she got to see every week, there was nothing more serene than the silent solitude of her commute back home. with her air pods blasting in her ear, hani hardly noticed anything (or anyone) outside of her immediate line of sight. however, despite her tired haze, eventually she was able to make out the face of a familiar figure ahead of her in line at the brewed awakening. not wanting to fight against the loud chaos of the coffee shop, hani waited until after she'd placed her order to approach the other quietly.
removing her ear buds as she approached the other, hani hoped to attract his attention through a light tap on his shoulder. "jisoo's uncle?" the younger called out. she'd grown accustomed to addressing most relatives this way rather than by their given namesβ€” not typically anticipating casual run-ins with them outside of the daycare center.
"what a coincidence running into you here. is jisoo nearby as well?" her eyes peeked curiously around the other's figure, hoping to catch a glimpse of the child running around.

The elevator always felt like it crawled its way down the building when she had all her equipment with her. Inhye blew out a frustrated sigh. Her camera bag, haphazardly strewn across her shoulder, was starting to dig in already.
As if sensing that she was ready to give it all up and turn back to her apartment, the elevator doors opened. Their parting slowly revealed the sight of a man preparing for a funeral. Inhye schooled her expression into one of complete composure. She smiled at him, sparing a quick glance at the unfortunate looking plant life in his arms. Well... plant life wasn't exactly an accurate assessment. There was no life there at all.
Taking her place beside him, the elevator resumed its descent behind closed doors. She looked at him again, this time accidentally meeting his guilty gaze. She couldn't help the laugh that spluttered out.
"Laying them to rest again?" she asked casually, returning her sight to the doors and biting her lip to avoid another laugh. The last thing she wanted was to appear rude in his time of mourning.

Of all the guided tours Seojin believed he might be apt in delivering, this had not been at the start of his list. He couldn't argue that if anyone was going to introduce roleplaying video games, he was probably the best guy for the job. But the fact that he now had Chiyo sat beside him to ready undertake the venture, nestled in the abundance of blankets he'd pulled from various spots around his apartment, was somewhat of an anomaly.
And yes. He also couldn't argue against the fact that presenting her with Dark Souls as a first foray outside the cosy Animal Crossing realm she currently resided in, was cruel. But that was why he was here. To guide her. To make this as painless as possible!
Seojin shot a sidelong glance Chiyo's way. In his left hand sat the controller, ready to go. He offered it to her, the smallest glint of mischief in his eyes. "We have sustenance," he began, referring to the copious amounts of snacks stacked in colorful bowls on the table in front of them, "We have blankets. And you have your guide. Now Miss Chiyo... do you trust me?"
