Finished S1 of Andor tonight. Kudos to all involved; a banger of a story. And frighteningly prescient of the times we're living in. That should scare you. It does me.
Random thoughts:
~ Diego Luna wears the skin of a reluctant rebel/hero very convincingly. He's a lovely combination of all the tropes that come with that designation. And he gives good and very expressive face.
~ I love Bix. I'm a sucker for tough women who are (mostly) hiding a marshmallow heart.
~ I would like to put in a request for my very own Brasso. He pushes like 95% of my buttons. I do love me a big man who takes care of shit and has a heart of gold.
~ I feel bad for Vel, who loves Cinta so much, even when it's obvious Cinta loves the work of the rebellion more than she does Vel.
~ B2EMO has my heart. ❤️
~ Mon Mothma is fascinating. I haven't seen any of the Star Wars films that are set before A New Hope, and probably won't - except for Rogue One down the line. But I've enjoyed getting to know her in Andor.
P. S. Perrin needs to be bitch slapped. I volunteer! 👋🏼
~ I'm not sure how I feel about Luthen yet. He's supposed to be heading up a major part of the rebellion but comes across almost as a villain. Which I suppose he justified in his monologue in Ep. 12. Or was it 11? I'm not sure, but stay tuned...
~ I'm kinda into Dedra and Syril. Will that be allowed? They're both such wonderfully layered villains. And there is so much chemistry there.
~ All the supporting characters are very well written and acted. No sense of the writers creating people just so they can fill a particular slot in the story. Very organic as a whole.
I'll probably take a few days off before I start S2. Just to absorb everything. Thanks to everyone who peer-pressured me into watching Andor. Y'all were right. 😘

Made the mistake of opening TXF on Hulu one day? Picked the wrong channel when it was on television? Did this mistake result in a life-ruining obsession? You too may be entitled to financial compensation from Chris Carter if you join my class action lawsuit by reblogging this post.

Just remember this: those in power in this country right now want to keep us all dumb, sick, and poor. Sheep to the slaughter. Don't let them do that to you. Don't be sheep. Be lions.

No 😟 but I'm still up for it. I know it sounds really lazy on my part, but I don't have the mental energy these days to take on creating a SanSan week or perhaps even weekly discussions. But I'd do my best to participate if someone else did.
GOT did a number on me, too. But my love for SanSan never really went away. And when I think about writing these days (if the muse be willing), it's those two that occupy most of my headspace. A love like that never dies. 😉
Then something stirred behind her, and a hand reached out of the dark and grabbed her wrist. Sansa opened her mouth to scream, but another hand clamped down over her face, smothering her. His fingers were rough and callused, and sticky with blood. “Little bird. I knew you’d come.” The voice was a drunken rasp.

Spooky Award Winners 1998 - full list!

The Spooky Awards were the annual awards given to X-Files fan fiction from 1995-2004 (except for, strangely, the year 1997). They were voted on by readers in a process that's a little unclear to me now--I know it must have been occasionally controversial, because there were sometimes concerns about "ballot stuffing." Full disclosure, I'm getting most of my info about this from Fanlore, although as an aged person I do remember the Spookys being a big deal back in the day. I might have even voted for them at some point, but I really don't remember how it worked. I sure af know we didn't have Google Forms. From year to year the categories changed, sometimes drastically, and sometimes they awarded honorable mentions. In the earlier years, from my point of view, it looks like a lot of the same fics and authors won again and again in lots of categories, but by the later years, it seems like it was a much more varied group of winners. I find the Spooky winners really fascinating to look at now because (1) they show what people liked to write and read back when the show was on; (2) they're an interesting documentation of early online fandom / fanfic, including how people liked to categorize fic and pairings; (3) there are a lot of fics and authors on these lists that people still read and recommend; (4) there are some fics that people really don't read and recommend, and I'm always curious why (some might deserve to be remembered more!). I'm going to list the 1998 Spooky winners below and link each fic as best I can so other people can explore them. I chose 1998 because there were a lot of familiar fics to me on this list--honestly, some real bangers--but maybe I'll do another year later. I found every fic but one still online. (Unacceptable by Justin Glasser anyone?) A few random observations about 1998: obviously lots of movie fic. Less of a focus on strictly MSR, and plenty of same sex pairings, including Scully slash. More male fic authors / author names than we typically see nowadays. Also, in googling for a hard-to-find fic, I think I discovered another XF fanfic author who went pro (Saundra Mitchell). Look these over and give me your thoughts!
