Httyd 2 thoughts:

How many times has Hiccup had to go fly off on Toothless just so he can scream out in frustration and anger at the sky? Especially when it comes to his father?

Seems like a lot from Toothless reaction. I really love this moment, because not only is Hiccup acting his age. He's also angry, rarely have we ever just seen him angry. Hiccup always either hides behind false positivity or sarcasm. This is finally a moment where we can see him angry. And he's only able to really do that and feel comfortable doing that with Toothless. I just really love it. Hiccup at war with himself wanting to keep the peace and be kind vs admiting his father might be right and wanting to keep Toothless safe no matter what.

Rewatching httyd and I think I’m realizing something about Nightfuries.

So, Toothless spits up half the fish that Hiccup gave him. A kind of act of goodwill to reciprocate Hiccup’s. He does it again later after Test Drive.

It’s not something other dragons do when say, feeding the queen, because a Gronkle does the same and gets eaten. Sure, it could just be that it wasn’t enough for the queen, but we also know something about Nightfuries.

They don’t take food. It’s in the opening dialogue about them.

If a Nightfury took nothing back to the queen, I’m sure they’d be eaten too. But Toothless shows up, somewhat late, with the first pack of dragons that attack the village.

I think he followed the dragons because they were flying somewhere together, not because he was under orders from the queen.

So I think Nightfuries are meant to be pack hunters. They work together and feed each other.

He bonds to Hiccup very fast, and even when he could kill Hiccup, he doesn’t. Like when Hiccup lets him go. Like the very first flight when Hiccup attaches just the tail fin.

And sure, we know that dragons can tell when you mean harm and have weapons, but the Monstrous Nightmare still almost killed Hiccup in the beginning despite being unarmed.

Anyways, based on this evidence, I think Nightfuries are meant to be pack hunters, and the fact they are solitary is a tragedy. They’ve been wiped out that it changes their entire ability to exist with other dragons.

(And for the little dragons that come and steal his food, they��re not part of his pack. That’s why he defends his food. It’s like a lion protecting food from hyenas.)

Edit: OH, AND it’s a great reason why he’s so adept at enforcing boundaries and keeping the peace between pack members. It’s innate. Like wolves, they have to manage everyone’s emotions and actively try to avoid fights and de-escalate.

As promised, the first of many little clips as i plan this thing.

Obviously nothing will be coloured yet for a while BUT this is the rough plan.

I’m going to keep adding scenes, it will only be one or two more as 3 scenes is the minimum and average for this project

I am going to animate this !!

I am starting a 4 week project (uni work) to create a 30 second to 60 second animation, and guess what I’ve decided to base it on.. httyd books but brought to life yuup BUT in order to gain marks in character design, I’m going to modify hiccups outfit a little (you might have already seen his skull mask fit on my earlier post) and im giving Windwalker either an extra set of small fins or just making him very expressive (probably both). Toothlesss will be making an appearance don’t worry. He will be very tiny and cute.

Anyways, that’s the update, and that’s why there will be quite a lot of half finished work amongst the drawings i will obviously still be doing for fun for a while :o

Flight

Mixed hiccups firesuit with some of movie hiccups outfit because i love how practical it all is. There are straps for his legs, and further down for his arms. There are little handles for him to hold onto and to guide Windwalker. He also has the signature leather strap holding him to the saddle. Windwalker has his bandage finally !! Hiccup also has a little skull mask on, because remember he lost his helmet in book 11.

Don’t worry I didn’t forget toothless !! He is curled up underneath the fur covering.

Camicaze wrapped the strips around his arms to keep him warm.
