Twitter
Twitter is a social networking platform that focuses on primarily on communication through text and messages. It’s popular as it is simple and easy to use, has funny content like short tweets, a wide variety of content for all age groups and is good for businesses.  
Twitter has many features such as tweets, image and video sharing, twitter business (brand following, launches, competition monitoring), twitter lists, pinned tweets, gifs, twitter moments, trending lists. Twitter has around 395.5 million global users, 450 million monthly active users and at least 500 million tweets are sent daily. Their ad revenue for 2023 so far is $2.98 billion and was $4.14 billion in 2022.   
Twitter has many advantages, these include it being free to use, it’s a good marketing strategy as twitter has a wide audience and things go viral more easily and the mix of content offered (blogging messaging, feedback). However, there are many negative comments due to no restrictions and a lot of hate/trolls for certain people, there are also lots of spam accounts and hacking as well as limits on the characters per tweet.   
The privacy concerns for Twitter are that all information that is submitted to the service is made public by default, twitter collects data such email, address, phone number, address book contacts and public profile.  
We can use Twitter to market and promote events. Tweets are shared a lot quicker and easier than they are compared to other social media platforms meaning that the event will become more popular quicker.  
I haven't used Twitter to promote anything as I don’t have the app. I wouldn’t use Twitter however because most people I know don’t have twitter and mainly use other forms of social media such as Instagram and TikTok.

Facebook
Facebook is a free social media platform that is mainly used for networking and connecting with people worldwide. It’s one of the most popular social media platforms as it was the first major social media platform to be created and it targets a wide variety of people, there is also loads of different ways of displaying content such as posts, texts or stories.  
Facebook has multiple features that includes photos, videos, written posts, marketplace, fan groups, sorties, dating, reels, events, gaming, news and memories. It is the most popular social networking site globally and had around 2.9 billion monthly active users in 2021. Facebook is also the third most popular website with around 11.2 billion visits. In 2020, they made around 86 billion in ad revenue.  
Facebook has many advantages like being free for users and easy to use, it’s also used worldwide and is one of the best networking platforms, they have groups that people can be part of to share views with likeminded people and Facebook marketplace which is good for second-hand items. However, it can be addictive for many people, have loads of intrusive adverts and there are many fake accounts and scams.  
Privacy concerns around Facebook is that they use facial recognition in posts and allow third party apps to collect internet usage and personal information. They are known for having quite a lot of security breaches and hackings.  
In events Facebook can mainly be used for marketing and promoting events. You can also create business accounts on Facebook. Facebook can be used to set-up own private event groups to inform people of the event details. Public events list also available, and you can state whether you’re interested or going.  
I tried marketing our boozy brunch event on Facebook, however I didn’t find it effective at all. I found that it didn’t reach people well was difficult to use and navigate.

Instagram
Instagram is free social media platform that’s focus is based around photo and video sharing. It’s growing popularity is due to how easy it is to use, the engaging content produced, the wide filters and features to the app and the fact that adverts are a lot less visible and intrusive than most other platforms.  
Instagram has multiple features within the app, this includes photo and video sharing, reels, shopping, search and explore, access to multiple accounts easily and business accounts. Instagram has around 2 billion monthly users making it the fourth largest used platform and the fifth most visited website worldwide. In 2021 they generated $42.1 billion in ad revenue, which increase a further $1.1 billion in 2022 with an overall $43.2 billion generated.  
Instagram has many advantages to its users; this includes it being free to use as well as being a good marketing platform for promoting and selling goods or services and being connected to other social media platforms like Facebook meaning that the same content can be posted together. However, it can become addictive, isn’t suitable for all systems like a blackberry and is designed mainly for mobile phone use.  
A privacy concern is that they collect around 79% of their users’ personal data which can include phone numbers, addresses and bank information and then shares/sells it to third parties.  
In events Instagram can be used as an effective form of marketing. It’s a quick and effective way to spread to word about events and a lot of businesses have Instagram business accounts as there main way of marketing their products and services to the general public. Instagram business accounts also have benefits such as being able to view account insights, having links to websites and a professional dashboard to use.  
We used Instagram to market our boozy brunch event. It was the most effective platform that we used, and I found that we managed to reach a lot of accounts and we could also share it to our personal account very easily.
