Exhibition
Majority of everyones work is up, just need to make sure the space is clear and make everything look good for when it’s open for the public to come and view.
Everyone’s projects have all turned out very differently as our brief was open to interpretation so everyone did what they wanted to for it.

Comic-con photographs - Cosplay
Primary research of characters and character creation. At comic-con, a lot of people dress up and even sometimes pretend to be the character. It’s like for one day you can become something you’re not. It’s a way to escape the mundaneness of everyday life and a way to relax and have fun for once.

Animation test- Based off of fighting video games
Here I decided to test out an idea I’ve wanted to try out for a while, which was doing a short animation based off of fighting games as I find them very fun and exciting, and adding my own characters into the mix make them even more enjoyable to me.
Here I used Lou-Lou and Tatty - of course, they’re designs are different to how they actually look but I like to think all my characters have alternative versions to themselves, like how we can believe there are different realities out there holding different versions of ourselves. Here, Lou-Lou is more of a hero where as Tatty is dressed more demonically with horns and glowing eyes, really exaggerating on his villainous side.
If I were to every improve upon this, I would really like to go more into it by animating the short clip of them doing an action just before the game is about to begin (what usually happens in fighting games such as Street Fighter and Blazblue)

These are some images I had created earlier on in the year, which I feel intertwine with looking into Frankenstein.
These were created along the same sort of lines as the game ‘exquisite corpse’, which is why Frankenstein made me remember this process. How he was made from different parts, then how these images are also made from different parts of different things, characters and people.
But after I mix all these parts together, they end up creating something new and different, which as an end result could be used to create new characters, and so forth and so forth. This could go on and on to keep creating new characters. I feel this is similar to how I already create characters ad the majority of them are based off of different aspects of myself. I see them all mostly as my own ‘alter ego’, after all I did make them so I feel some responsibility and a strange creator and creation relation with them.
As a next step, could I try to create characters from these?

Creation of a being - can it ever be perfect? Is any being truly perfect?

The creation of a being from different parts of others. I feel there’s quite a solid connection with Frankenstein and my own comic. Frankenstein is made, Lou-Lou is made into something she’s not. Frankenstein is made of parts, Lou-Lou has wings stitched onto her. There’s also the aspect of ‘mad scientist’ which relates to Tatty in my story.
“I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other.”
I found this quote from the book really suits Tatty. Tatty does love Lou-Lou, but he just doesn’t know that his love hurts her so much, so he takes this love to a new form, his anger and aggression toward her, where he forces her to change by physically doing it himself.

Digital Raiden drawing - created as an iPhone wallpaper
Lots of franchises have people that create fanart etc which other people then use to make into wallpapers for their phones and computers. Creating a story with characters draws the reader in, and then they're invested in anything that may have the character on, be it clothes or just a drawing!

Raiden canvas painting
I used to work in this process a lot for high school. I wanted to re-visit it and see how I had improved from older pieces. I decided to paint Raiden onto it using acrylic as he’s one of the more calmer characters from the comic.
This way more a way to relax and take a break from the usual black and white inking, but it was also a nice littler experiment with different techniques and processes to my usual ones. I feel he turned out rather good, but I would have liked to blend the shading in more to give more of a natural depth onto him.

What’s the reason behind my comic?
For my comic, I wanted to make it personal. So I have based it off a real relationship I’ve had (illustrated in a more abstract way to how it actually happened) and also emphasized on the abusive side of relationships. A lot of people may not get this without an explanation behind it. I used to be in a pretty bad relationship myself, where I’d be told I was wrong all the time, he would always get angry at me, and I would constantly be be-littled and created as if I wasn’t good enough for him. He was constantly making me feel like I needed to be different and making me feel like I had to change. He always told me I was im-perfect but that was fine because ‘he loved me’. To me, it didn’t seem like it was fine. If he was fine with me being im-perfect, why did he constantly get angry at me? Blame me for every tiny thing he got angry at? This had never happened in any other relationship, and I KNEW things weren’t my fault. One time I was accused of cheating when another man may look at me. Thankfully, in the end I put a stop to this relationship.
But at what cost? After everything I had been through with him, I felt broken, pathetic, depressed and just awful in general. I began to start getting anxiety attacks and I just kept breaking down. I still do. After that awful relationship, I honestly haven’t felt the same. If anything it broke me mentally. I already had depression whilst I was with him, and he said “oh if you’re depressed with me you must not love me”. Which of course, made me have to hide any of these feelings from him. This is not what a relationship should be. Someone shouldn’t have to hide their true self from the other and be blamed for any feelings they may have.
And all this, if what had lead me to create my comic. Lou-Lou is meant to represent myself just in a slightly more subtle way (I didn’t make her exactly the same as myself). She’s called Lou-Lou because my middle name is Louise and my family often call me by the nickname Lou-Lou. Tatty, represents my ex, who I will leave un-named but the reason he’s called Tatty in my comic is because his real name is slightly similar (both beginning with T). The last character in the comic, Raiden, is actually based off of my friend. Again, both of their names start with the same letter but I’ll leave her un-named here also.
Lou-Lou is a happy, joyful character that makes comments in her head which she may not say to the other characters (for example where she thanks god Raiden isn’t very smart). As I said before, she isn’t exactly like me as personally I am never really joyful or happy, but she does share similar traits as me when Tatty begins to show his dark side. She questions him a lot, and cries and even laughs at what is happening. This is similar to when I may have ‘a breakdown’ as I will cry and cry then because I find it all so stupid I end up laughing, thinking “why am I evening crying?”.
Tatty seems relatively normal in the beginning, which is the same as how my ex was in the beginning of our relationship, but then it turned really quickly, hence why Tatty gets angry so suddenly. He begins to blame Lou-Lou for not understanding him, which is also what I got blamed for a lot. Lou-Lou becomes confused and doesn’t really know what to say, leaving them both in an awkward silence - Another thing that would happen to my past relationship. I was easily confused by why he actually got angry, it just didn’t make any sense to me. Tatty ends up turning fully composed into his ‘dark’ side where he finally gives in to how he actually is, forcing Lou-Lou to change herself to be perfect for him by changing her himself. Tatty ends up regretting his actions, but sometimes I wonder if my ex actually ever regrets how he treated me. This is the last we see of Tatty in the comic as he is no longer in my life, so Tatty would no longer be in Lou-Lou’s life.
The last character introduced into my comic is Raiden. Raiden is a little slow when it comes to realizing what’s going on, but gives Lou-Lou just the right amount of kindness that Lou-Lou needs in her life right now. Raiden is sweet on Lou-Lou, though she seems to be rather oblivious to this, showing how she’s not the smartest of people herself (which is very much so like me!) I felt he is what the comic needed to re-gain it’s more calm and cute atmosphere, but of course in the end, not everything is perfect for Lou-Lou...

Perfection
“the condition, state, or quality of being free or as free as possible from all flaws or defects.”
“the action or process of improving something until it is faultless or as faultless as possible.”
The definition for perfection is an open term. It’s basically saying that said object or person simply has to be made as perfect as they can be meaning it’s possible to use any means to make said thing perfect. Which is exactly what Tatty goes about trying to do to Lou-Lou. Now of course, everyone has a different definition in their head for what ‘perfect’ truly is. For some it may be a prince in shining armor, to others maybe even a bad guy, and for Tatty, he believes an angel is perfection. This is why he goes about trying to make Lou-Lou an angel by giving her wings. To Lou-Lou, this most certainly isn’t perfection. What’s perfection to her is being content with herself, not trying to be something she isn’t, which is why when Tatty changes her, she asks him “You must really hate me huh?”

Cover 4 colouring experimentation
Added a tear to show how she may feel during this whole story. For Lou-Lou it’s been quite an emotional journey so it makes sense to have her being sad. But yet again with this, I preferred the subtleness of my original cover design so I will not be using this.

Experimentation using colour and editing the cover using photoshop. I wanted to see if it was add to the effect of the imagery using colour along with it and by maybe making their features more pronounced/evil. For example, Tatty in the 2nd one looks a lot more like he should (due to his ‘bad’ nature) in the 2nd. But I actually really like the more subtleness of the original, as it doesn’t give everything away.

FMP - DAY 36 (12/6/17)
Today I have been doing some extra drawing into my sketchbook and keeping up with all my blog work as last week my class were very busy making sure that our exhibition space was all set up and making it as ready as we can. This week we’re still going to need to do a little bit more cleaning for it to make sure that it looks the best it can, but so far I think it’s looking really nice and I love how the colours help draw your eyes to peoples work.
We tried to keep the exhibition space colour coded, so comic are a turquoise colour, ceramics are pink and type is red. There are some places where it’s different as some didn’t want to use a certain colour for their work but it’s okay as I feel it all works out and I really glad we used colour for our exhibition to make it different to the others where the wall is usually just plain white. I can understand the white is meant to draw your eyes to the work, but I don’t think it helps make you interested enough. For me the colour helps a lot more than if the walls were just plain.
As a next step, I need to make sure the rest of my work is completed and ready for Wednesday. I will be updating blog posts and making sure my sketchbooks are annotated.
