Yves: "Hmm, this alcohol seems strong, so it might go well with cream puffs."

Nokto: "..."

Yves: "In that case, it might pair well with a slightly bittersweet chocolate cake."

Yves: "Hmm? What's wrong? You've been staring at me for a while now."

Yves: "Oh, I see. It's because your big brother—"

Nokto: "It's not that."

Yves: "But I haven't said anything yet!"

Nokto: "You were about to say something like 'Your big brother wasn't paying you any attention, so you were bored,' right?"

Yves: "But, I do appreciate you always getting me all these different kinds of alcohol from both domestic and foreign sources.”

Yves: “Being able to drink with you like this is the best way to bond as brothers.”

Nokto: “Well, I do think that spending time with you is valuable, since I get to learn which alcohol pairs well with sweets for free.

Nokto: “And I don’t need you to say, ‘Isn’t this supposed to be aa fun time drinking with big brother?’”

Yves: “Ugh… It’s good that you understand big brother so well, but it’s frustrating that I can say it.”

Nokto: "Speaking of which, there was a girl I met at a party who liked alcohol and sweets."

Nokto: "Maybe I should invite her to drink the sweet blue-colored alcohol we talked about earlier. Along with some chocolate cake."

Yves: "Hey, don't use my efforts for your womanizing."

Nokto: "Whether or not I use the knowledge I gain is up to me, and you should be happy that your little brother is actually listening, right?"

Nokto: "So, what other snacks go well with the other drinks?"

Yves: “You’re a smooth talker, but I won’t be falling for it this time.”

Yves: “But, just for today, I’ll teach you in a way that’s easy to understand!”

Why Is He Like This - Silvio Ricci Edition - Part One

Let me preface this by saying I’m no expert on content, psychology, or translating. Just a gal behind a keyboard who spent a lot of her college life analyzing literature and nowadays enjoys picking apart otome boys to see if we can figure out what makes them tick.

That said, let’s begin this Silvio breakdown with the obvious part - the facts we know, some of which may be treading old ground but let’s lay them out again properly. And needless to say, this is going to be full of spoilers and conjecture, so READER BEWARE:

Silvio Ricci is the first/eldest prince of Benitoite, a seaside land based on strong ocean trade and a mercantile economy that values commerce above all else and is based on Italy (the particular region, if any, is perhaps up for debate). He has one full brother, the second prince Emidio, and one half-brother, the third prince Valerio (Rio).

He and Emidio share a mother, Adria, who was previously the queen and married to the king of Benitoite before her death. The king’s current wife and queen is Rio’s mother, who was his mistress prior to his first wife’s death. Adria was a wicked woman who was involved in the black market trading of illegal drugs, resented Rio and his mother intensely, and used both her own means and her own children to make Rio and Rio’s mother’s lives hellish. When her misdeeds were finally exposed by Rio she took her own life five years ago.

Random Benitoite fact: Apparently drinking is a big part of their culture as well, a prelude to most social events, and to refuse a drink offered by someone is considered an insult. 

So, base facts aside, let’s look at his personality. Boy howdy. It’s by now quite obvious that this man isn’t winning any congeniality contests any time soon. Silvio is loud (both literally and figuratively), brash, rude, blunt, arrogant, domineering, and frankly a bit of a bully. Just about everything he says and does is calculated to draw a maximum amount of attention to himself and to make himself appear superior, from the flashy expensive clothes and the ostentatious jewelry he wears to the way he refuses to use a goddamned doorknob like a civilized person and instead kicks every door in, down to the way he uses dismissive and insulting language with just about everyone.

(Yes, this is our cue to put a bingo marker on the ‘Low Self-Esteem’ square - we'll get to that later.)

Rio in particular bears the brunt of this but Silvio’s vitriol isn’t reserved for him alone - Gilbert, Notko, Emidio in particular, and others have been on the receiving end of Silvio insults before, while most everyone gets a general level of rudeness in attitude as well. I will note, however, that outside of referring to her as ‘woman’ and ‘rabbit’ (which is a term a number of the suitors use for Emma) and the occasional rude way of saying ‘you’ to her…I have yet to see Silvio directly insult Emma. Which is like scraping the barest bottom of the barrel here I know but, let’s hold tight to that.

How do we balance this? Does this man have a single good trait to counteract this rap sheet of offenses? I have a feeling we’ll get better answers to this in his own route, because Silvio’s a tough egg to crack, but we’ve gotten some glimpses of his better aspects and strengths so far at least. 

He’s a shrewd and observant man with an excellent business mind and keen eye for details - it’s stated many times how adept his negotiating is and how he’s a mercantile genius. In the amnesia event, Emma finds him nearly penniless and in the span of only a short while he’s turned over massive profits and become a successful businessman. He’s more than capable of keeping up with and perhaps even surpassing Nokto during their Bunny Stealing VS event, when they both fed off each other in negotiations with the rose farm. And in Rio’s route, he‘s quick to pick up when things about Emidio’s behavior don’t add up and moves swiftly, intercepting his brother’s insidious plans to minimize their impact.

He has a sense of honor and a code of ethics that he can be counted on to adhere to, even as he may try to initially finagle his way into a better position (as any seasoned merchant should). Rio provides Emma with the ultimate trump card for handling Silvio when he lets her in on some valuable business intel and give her a tip - that Silvio can basically always be counted on to negotiate. Offer him something and you’ll get something in return, quid pro quo. In this particular case she uses it to ‘talk’ him out of kidnapping her, offering him the trade knowledge passed on by Rio and her willingness to comply in exchange for concessions and information. And once he’s agreed upon terms, he can be relied on to uphold them. All of which makes sense when you come from a culture of mercantile and trade, where a man’s word and agreements is his bond and the damage of reneging on deals can be catastrophic to one’s standing in society.

Despite his volatility over some things, he’s capable of being objective and looking at the bigger picture without letting his emotions get in the way. When Silvio explains the story of his mother and her conflicts with Rio’s mother, he makes no excuses for his mother’s terrible behavior and in fact does not blame Rio or Rio’s mother for retaliating. If anything, he seems to agree that his mother most likely reaped what she sowed and deserved the end she met - unlike Emidio who is unable to let go of his anger towards Rio and blames him for their mother’s death.

While it’s easy to be cynical and say he’s only motivated by a desire to maintain relations between the two countries, I think Silvio genuinely shows concern for the general public and for others. He involves himself in the conflict between Rio and Emidio (ostensibly because the drama could be a wedge driven between Rhodolite and Benitoite), makes moves to save Emma’s life (again, he claims because more of the same) and when her house is set on fire he worries over the possibility of harm to the city and citizens as well. He expends money and manpower to clean up and contain the messes Emidio is responsible for, and agrees with little more than a vague promise of a favor to help Rio and Emma cover for a little girl’s mother who was the unwilling accomplice to Emidio’s crimes.

Even if this were merely fulfilling a duty, this ties back to his code of honor and ethics and feeling a sense of responsibility for what his family and country has done.

He expresses concern, albeit couched in terms of ‘what value she provides to Rio’, over Emma being involved with his family and its devious machinations - repeatedly trying to dissuade her from being involved with Rio because of how dangerous it is. At one point, when her house is set on fire by Emidio, he even tries to impress upon her how he can replace things with money but if Emidio takes his vendetta any further, his money can’t replace people - asking her once again to give up on Rio.

Again, you could argue he simply does all this to avoid rocking the boat and to maintain the status quo between their countries - but I believe there’s more to it than that, despite what the man himself says. Probably even more so, because we all know a tsun tells no truths unless they’re dragged out of them at damn near knife point.

SO.

We’ve got some negatives laid out, some positives (?), but how about the big elephant in the room so far, of course, which hasn’t been addressed yet - his achilles heel, if you will. Women.

As I have mused on elsewhere, the difficulty behind knowing why Silvio acts as flustered as he does whenever Emma instigates any contact is that we don’t know if it applies merely to her, to all women, or to anyone in general. Althought without evidence to the contrary, and with Emma specifically calling it out as being ‘bad with women’, I’m going to make the assumption that Silvio’s hangup is with regards to the ‘fairer sex’ as a whole. 

To know why he is this way isn’t possible yet, clearly this will be a SEKRIT kept for his own route, but there’s probably some theories we can suggest. 

I think the simplest is that he’s just generally terrible with interpersonal relationships. This is evidenced by his rude behavior as is, but Gilbert makes a point to refer to Silvio as having a shy side and it seems easy to imagine how that might be - under the aggressive shell of swagger and pomp is a very fragile uncertain underbelly. Most people who act that much ‘larger than life’ are often trying desperately to overcompensate for perceived faults and weaknesses, hoping that people will look no deeper than the confident abrasive exterior they project. 

Not to mention that when Silvio speaks praise of himself, the things he notes are externally rooted factors that he has little control over. His wealth, his status, and his good looks are generally the only things he points out repeatedly as reasons why Emma (or anyone else) should be falling at his feet. Things that seem to tick off boxes on a checklist of ‘Good Things’ that are superficial and broad and ultimately meaningless.

The question then is, does Silvio truly judge himself by these shallow standards or is that merely what he believes society wants of him? And if so, where would he get that idea?

Benitoite, with its high emphasis on wealth and trade and a court that sounds as if it is full of more intrigue than Rhodolite’s, certainly factors into this. Silvio asks Emma point blank what she brings to the table as Rio’s woman - claiming that Benitoite would never accept someone without some sort of value as a royal. Silvio having a generally transactional approach to even dealings between people (‘indebting’ Emma into playing the part of his fake lover, lording what Rio owes him over him and trying to always put a monetary value to favors, claiming that all hurts can be fixed with money) seems rooted in this.

But I also wonder if he wasn’t taught that love itself is transactional and must be bought or earned.

We’re told that the ring which belonged to his mother, Adria, is ostentatious and incredibly gaudy. That small detail alone tells us that she was probably the sort of person who valued wielding money and status as a weapon, but I think we could go further and suggest that if so, perhaps she withheld her love from her sons as a form of transaction as well. Hearing that she used them to bully Rio, bidding her sons to take from Rio the things he cared about, makes me wonder if she didn’t make a payment of sorts out of it. If they wanted her love and approval, they had to do as she asked or provide the things she asked of them.

This has been reinforced his entire life, as Silvio states that women tend to be gold diggers - even going so far as to delude himself into believing women who genuinely seem to like him are only after his money as well. Any point and time at which Emma does things for him without expecting compensation, or without strings attached, seems to leave him at a genuine loss. Utterly shocked and off-balance.

It all comes back to the age-old sentiment that all the money in the world can’t buy you love. And the cruelest irony of Silvio is that he doesn’t believe something that’s free can be of any value…even when I think it’s the one thing he deep-down truly wants the most.

I was going to go on, I have a bunch more notes about his relationship specifically as it pertains to Emma and what he values about her and more conjectures on the conflicts and issues that might arise in their route, but this is so long already I think I’ll save that for a part two! The consensus was to have the ceremony surrounded by plants, and the garden of Crown castle was chosen.

(There were a lot options, but I’m happy to eb able to get married in such a memorable place.)

I confirmed the arrangements and sat on the bench with a nervous look on my face.

Ellis: …As I thought, you look so beautiful in your dress.

Kate: Ellis….you look very handsome.

He kneels in front of me, looking different from usual.

Kate: Why don’t you sit down?

Ellis: The veil hides your face, so I can see your face better this way, Kate.

I could feel the tension slowly dissolve into heat enveloping my hands.

Kate: You look like a prince, Ellis.

Ellis: Then you’re my personal princess, Kate.

I laugh, as his lips tickle the back of my hand, and he looks up at me happily.

Ellis: After the ceremony is over, it’ll be time for the honeymoon. Have you decided where you want to go?

Kate: I’m struggling to decide. What about you, Ellis?

Ellis: I’m happy wherever you are, but….I’m sure we can figure something out together.

Kate: Will Jude give you time-off……..

Ellis: Don’t worry. I’ve finished my work ahead of schedule, so I’m off for a while.

Despite my doubts, he begins to talk about the future.

Ellis: It’s going to be difficult for a while, but once things settle down, I’d like a house for just the two of us.

Kate: Great, what kind of home would you like?

Ellis: London is nice, but I think a beautiful green suburb would suit you better Kate.

Ellis: It doesn’t have to be big, I just want it to be our own private paradise.

I imagined a green suburban home and found my cheeks soften.

Ellis: Ah, but when we have a baby, we’ll need the room, so maybe it’s better if it’s bigger.

Kate: A child…?!

In contrast to me, who suddenly let out a strange voice, he tilted his head.

Ellis: Maybe you hadn’t thought about it?

A sad expression appeared on his face and he shook his head hurriedly.

Kate: It’s not like that, but I thought maybe it’d be better with just us two, Ellis.

Ellis: I hate the idea of having a child and no longer being number one to you, but ……

Ellis: But I thought that I’d be happier if I had a child who looked like you.

Since coming to Crown, I’ve been unable to imagine an ordinary sort of happiness….

(Ellis has always envisioned a future with me.)

I look away, happy and embarrassed.

Kate: ……Ellis, I want a girl who looks like you.

At these words, his expression changed happily.

Ellis: A family of four then.

I placed my hands on both my cheeks.

Kate: Maybe someday there’ll come more important things, but for right now, you come first Ellis.

Ellis: Me too, you’re the best.

Ellis: …I still think children will come a little later. I still want to enjoy the two of us.

Kate: Hehe….me too.

He put his chin on my lap and looked up at me with an enraptured expression on his face.

Ellis: Hey, how happy are you now?

I felt breathless because I had sensed the answer I was looking for.

Noticing this, his hand reaches up to my neck.

Ellis: I’m very happy right now…….Maybe, today might be the best day ever.

Ellis: So, if you felt the same way, I was thinking I’d kill you and make it eternal.

I took a deep breath, but there was no strength in his fingers.

Ellis: …..But I knew you’d say that you’d be happier tomorrow than you are today.

Ellis: Besides, I don’t want any of the things we just talked about to not come true.

His fingers leave my neck and slide up to my cheek….

Ellis: Until that time comes, I will continue to make you happy.

His fingers moved away as if they were regretted leaving.

Ellis: We should get going.

Stopping in front of the aisle, I remember what happened earlier.

(I don’t know what the future holds, but one thing is clear.)

Kate: Ellis.

Ellis: What’s wrong?

Kate: I don’t know when my happiest moment will come, but I can tell you this.

I looked straight into his eyes and said a thought will never change.

Kate: …..The moment my happiness ends is when you die, Ellis.

His startled face turned as sweet as jam.

Ellis: …..Then, I’ll get you before I die.

Ellis: Then I’ll follow you. Because I won’t be happy in a world without you.

Kate: ……It’s a promise.

He smiles an exquisite smile and takes a step forward with his arms entwined like thorns.

helloo anon! i dont think official ages have been posted, but they have dropped some info so we could make some guesses or ballpark ages. jus be aware i’m ballparking in the dark for some more than others. but i’ll provide as much explanation as i can under the cut bc spoilers-

ellis: 24

kate: at least 24, maybe around 25-26

ring, nika: 25-27 (?)

liam: 26

jude: 26-28

william: 28

elbie: 27-29

alfons: 29-30

harrison: 30-31

roger: 32, could be a lil older

darius: ??? likely a bit older than the twins but the possibility of being the same age or younger than them isnt completely off the table either

victor: ??? but probably the oldest one in crown

explanations under the cut

ellis is the youngest member of crown. he was 12 when he ran away from home, and that was 12 years ago. hence, that would make him 24

kate calls ellis with the —kun honorific in japanese as he is her kōhai (junior), so kate is older than 24. but as ellis is the only one she uses this honorific with in crown, she may be the 2nd or 3rd youngest

liam was 9 when he set fire on his house and lost his parents, and it was mentioned his dad was supposed to be dead 17 years ago, hence making liam 26

if ellis is 24, then roger is at least 32— we know bc roger met alec, the previous bearer for the curse of the thorns, when he was 8. in roger’s rt its implied that one is born with a curse and is first activated from an event, and no two ppl can have the same curse simultaneously, so ellis was born (and received the curse of the thorns) after alec died. so we know from there that roger would be around 8 years older than ellis

it was mentioned roger is slightly older than alfons, though there is not a solid concrete number as to by how many years, but it’s around 2 to 3 years difference. so alfons is probably 29-30, if roger is 32

jude is definitely older than ellis, though presumably not by many years. and although this is an if event, in his dark if, kate mentions that jude is a boy around her age. if we give some leeway into that and assuming that part also applies to canon, then he would probably be around 26-28.

elbies mom took her own life when he was 6, and that’s around when the doctor started examining his dad. if alfons was still on the streets at 7 years old (implied in rogers past records), he was taken in by the doctor after he was 7. it would make alfons a little older than elbie, but its unknown by how long, but not too many years

i feel in general, alfons age is a bit wishy washy considering we dont even know his “true birthday” .. he jus picked a date (specifically the day he met elbie!) and was like “ye thats my bday now 🙂‍↕️”

will was 14 when he formed crown with victor (it’s unknown how old victor was), and 14 years have since passed. this would make will 28

harrison’s dad was killed when he was 17, and that happened 14 years ago. it was also mentioned that when this happened, crown was already established with just will and victor. so that would make him around 30, 31.

now the twins and darius r probably like the most wishy washy guesses out of all of them. for one there’s just not much info abt them out bc theyre v new chars. buut there is some tinie clues.

there is a scene in rogers rt where he asks nika if they met before, and nika replies that he forgot. now it is just as likely that nika is lying here (as its implied he has a good memory), maybe bc he doesnt want to talk abt it or it may also be for ring, but if he is truthful then its probably the case that it was from a time when he was too young to really remember anything, which would probably make him somewhat considerably younger than roger

on rings end, during the “don’t look at anyone but me” event, ring basically asks kate to not be so formal and feels weirded out she uses —san with him (.. as she does with nearly everyone else, with exception of ellis, i think liam, and for one time only, alfons). maybe a part of it is like its in his char to not like formalities, but on the other hand, he never asks alfons to drop —san or use a different honorific with him the same way he did with kate, in the crown vs vogel event. so it may be a reasonable assumption to make that ring may be similar in age to kate .. or at least, more similar in age to kate than he is with alfons. so i ballparked them around 25-27

darius is kind of a mystery��� we do know that he has, in some way, saved the twins in the past (presumably from experimentation), so the twins r indebted to him. its probably reasonable to think he is older than the twins .. probably in his 30s even?

that said, seeing as he is of a noble upbringing, as he mentioned this in one of his bond stories where hes like “ik how table manners work bc its been taught to me but i jus choose not to apply them” or smth along those lines. so he could be capable of “saving the twins” even when younger than them or the same age as them if that makes sense

Ellis Twilight's Hot Milk Recipe - Dairy Free

First, let me just say that I am not a dairy-free girl, but I love almond milk, and some commented on a previous post of mine that a dairy-free version would be appreciated. So, here it is! I know there are a plethora of oatmilks and non-dairy substitutes for butter, but I'm not a guru in this field, so please feel free to take this recipe and tweak it to your hearts content. With that being said, please note that this is according to my taste. Also, this was done with the microwave, you can do it on an oven top, but if I can do it a microwave versus dirtying a pot then I will. I will say that I prefer the honey in this recipe over the sugar, and I will include the dairy ingredients for you to play with.

IkeVil Lore: Early on we learn that Ellis is a bread and butter kind of guy, and he also loves hot milk. In his route, it mentions the recipe includes milk, sugar and butter. I believe another blogger who plays JP mentioned it was honey instead of sugar, which is perfect because it's included in this recipe.

Prep Time: 2 minutes Cook Time: Under 3 minutes

Ingredients

8 oz Unsweetened Almond Milk or (Whole Milk or whatever fat percentage your prefer)

2 tsp Margarine or (Salted Butter)

1 Tbsp Sugar or (Honey)

A Sprinkle of Cinnamon (Optional - Not part of the recipe)

A crack or light dash of Sea Salt (Optional - Not part of the recipe)

Directions (For Microwave Use):

Soften the margarine in a microwavable dish according to the power of your microwave. Mix the sugar in with the margarine a give it a good stir with a spoon until well blended. You may add the salt and cinnamon at this point if you wish. (Stirring the honey & fat helps with making the almond milk more frothy like it would be if you drank this with whole milk.)

Heat up 8 oz of almond milk until it is hot, not lukewarm, hot. Pour in the margarine-honey mixture and stir it in well.

Enjoy!

Notes:

You don't have to melt the butter/margarine in separate dish. You could drop it in the almond milk and heat it all up together, but I don't think it tastes as frothy this way.

Initially, I started off with using only 2 teaspoons of honey, but that wasn't enough to mask the nuttiness of the almond, so I quickly doubled that. Same goes with the sugar.

You can add more butter/margarine if you wish, but I'd recommend increasing the almond milk as well so the it doesn't overpower the drink. Additionally, you run the risk of the margarine making the drink taste just plain oily.....that was gross.

I guess you can choose a sweetened almond milk, but it's hard to find one that isn't flavored with vanilla or something like that, and I wanted it to be as close to what would be available during Victorian times, so I chose unsweetened.

The salt was something I decided to add on my own, like literally two small twists from the cracker. I feel like it helps bring everything together much like it does in a chocolate chip cookie.

The cinnamon just gives it that little something extra.
