So fun fact about me.
Every time I’ve gone to a race, I’ve brought some sort of Scottish sweet to Dario.
First time it was macaroon, the second time it was tablet (that, even though it was like four years ago he remembered).
This time it was soor plooms and a can of the unicorn tears Irn Bru. He was so excited it was adorable.
Dixy’s crew, meanwhile, were all scared when he tried to offer them around.
And then I mentioned that I have a couple of bottles of Bucky.
The look I got.
Sir, I know what you did as an underage teenager.
I did offer to smuggle one of the bottles in for him but he declined.

Meant to say, if you’re at IMS any time in May and you see a small eejit with a massive green rucksack and pug teddy (may be taking pictures with it or it will be sticking out of a jean pocket), then that’s me.
Feel free to say hi or yell at me to top up my sunscreen for I am a pale Scottish person.

So the 60th Anniversary Celebration for Jim Clark’s year of dominance is sadly going to be missing a rather big piece:
It is with deep disappointment that we must announce the absence of the iconic 1965 Indianapolis Lotus 38 from the Jim Clark Celebration Weekend in June 2025.
Unforeseen circumstances and political decisions in Washington have thrown Ford's business operations into unexpected turmoil, making the transport and display of this historical vehicle impossible at this time. While we share your disappointment, please rest assured that this will not diminish the overall spirit of the event.
The Jim Clark Trust remains committed to delivering a memorable celebration, boasting a remarkable collection of Lotus cars and saloon cars. We eagerly anticipate welcoming you all to this special occasion as we honor the legacy of a true motorsport legend.

Alex Palou’s family got together to save up enough money to get him a go kart when he was five years old because he had became obsessed with the track he would go by on the way to and from school.
At seven, he was encouraged by a member of the track’s staff to take part in a race.
He won local championships with his dad and uncle being his mechanic and by 14 was accepted into Centre d’alt Rendiment, an elite athletic academy, and got to be a factory driver.
He finished second to George Russell in the European karting championship and the next logical step was open wheel.
But that required money, something he knew his family didn’t have.
Karting had only just been affordable through the factory seat and the cost to do a test, never mind a season, in the likes of Euro Formula Open was the equivalent of eight months of his family’s income.
So he never considered it.
Until he won the Spanish Karting Championship and with it was money to cover the cost of a test.
This also allowed him to catch the eye of Adrián Campos. Impressed him enough to get a seat despite Alex’s lack of backing.
And he did…okay.
He won races but beside his first year in 2014 where he finished 3rd in Euroformula Open Championship and 2nd in Spanish Formula 3 he didn’t have that much success.
By the end of 2016 his opportunities in Europe seemed to be over but Dallara gave him a chance in Japanese Formula 3.
He finished third with three wins.
Back to Europe for a season in Formula 3 after guest staring in the last two races in Formula 2 and again, he did okay. A couple of podiums and seventh in the championship (two places behind future teammate Marcus Armstrong).
But Honda like Alex and so it was back to Japan and Super Formula.
This was when I first heard about Palou when a couple of folk in the discord insisted we watched a replay of round 4 at Fuji Speedway when in the pissing rain he won. A mechanical in the final race had him finish the championship in third.
But he had done enough to get Dale Coyne’s attention.
Then Chip Ganassi’s.
And all because he would go by a go kart track to school.

On a slightly more serious note, is there anywhere else I should go while I am in Indy come May.
Besides, you know, IMS.
I’ve also been promised a day trip to Buc-ees because I’ve fascinated for like 20 years I blame many years of IndyCar videos at the on in Texas
So yeah, anything else?
Things that has been added to my list of things to do in Indy:
Go to the roundabout at 96th and Allisonvile Road.

I know a few years back they had a series of YouTube videos where they would ask general question about the driver and then end on a quick fire of how many 500 winners.
I don’t know if any of them could have done it in order like Seb did and there’s also the times there was two winners because of car sharing…
At least we’ll always have Will do the alphabet backwards.
is there a nerd on the indycar grid who can name all of the indy 500 champs a la seb and f1 champs
