i refuse to consider anything from the filler arc as canon. this is somewhat unrelated but you cannot convince me that yuma and osamu + the rest of tamakoma wouldn't have beaten the shit out of xeno the moment he took chika hostage. even taking the counterargument of "xeno could have killed her if they tried to hurt him" aside.. why the fuck would they call him "xeno-sama" just cause he asked. in what universe would would yuma and osamu show respect for someone taking chika hostage-

the way yuma gave absolutely zero fucks when he first came to japan will always be funny to me. like. this kid pulls up, gets into a verbal fistfight with kitora, gets himself and chika scouted for border by jin after he got into a physical fistfight with miwa squad (and won), and because of those two events goes into border with such a low opinion of a-rankers that he genuinely refuses to call konami "senpai" after being assigned as her disciple until after she beats him in a fight. iconic.

Hyuse's cover backstory of being Canadian is incidentally completely foolproof by way of him stumbling into adhering to Canadian stereotypes entirely by accident.

Sure, there's the usual patterns of an outsider to point to. Issues with chopsticks? Classic foreigner behavior. Awkward and standoffish? He's in a different country with none of his old friends! Sounds a little confrontational? Every beginner in their language struggles with tone! They don't hold it against him.

But, when trying to pinpoint exactly where Hyuse is from without directly asking and ruining the guessing game?

Hyuse just radiates Canada.

The complexities of Meeden politeness (Specifically Japan's) goes over his head some, so Hyuse has adapted to very softly, very quietly apologizing whenever he thinks he should. It's very embarrassing and pricks at his pride a little, but if this is how their society works, he has no choice but to go with it.

From an outsider's perspective, this is just typical Canadian politeness.

Hyuse may not have much of a sweet tooth, but boy does he like maple desserts! Could identify store-bought versus American versus genuine Canadian brands by taste alone (not that Hyuse is aware of that particular talent. All he knows is this one tastes good and the others are just meh.)
