Nova: *tears streaming down her face* No it's just my...contact solution

Adrian: You don't have contacts

Nova: I could have contacts you don't know my life

This is my first attempt at fan fiction but the idea just kind of came to me and I really felt like writing it. I’m not the greatest at writing but I just kind of felt this one.

“Oscar? Ruby? I’m here at the tunnels, I found Nightmare.” Adrian whispered into his communicator band then ducked behind the wall before Nightmare noticed him.

Pacing back and forth it occurred to Adrian that Nightmare seemed distraught. He only ever imagined her sitting in a dark hole somewhere plotting her evil plans against the Renegades. Seeing her so on edge reminded Adrian that she was just a human. A super human, but a human at that.

“AAAghg” Nightmare ran at the wall and kicked it in a rage. She must be really on edge, Adrian thought to himself.

She held her head in her hands as she crumpled against the wall and onto the floor. Adrian heard soft whimpering. Daring to catch a better look of the weeping anarchist Adrian tip toed around his hiding place.

That was a mistake. Nightmare caught his movement and bolted onto her feet, a gun ready in her hand, “Of course its you” her voice croaked.

The Sentinel raised his hands in defense, “I just wanted to talk”

“You really expect me to buy that?”

“Ah, well it was worth a shot.” Adrian ducked before she got her shot in then sprinted towards her, catching her off guard. He pinned her against the wall, holding her arms at her sides.

In an inexplicable way, Nightmares scent was oddly familiar as they stood so close with her pressed into the wall. “Now I know you’re a villain with a vendetta against the Renegades, but how could you hurt a little boy like that. What kind of monster are you?”

Nightmare flinched at his words, “I didn’t hurt him” she whispered, defensively, “I tried to save him, he just-he wasn’t supposed to get hurt.”

Adrian stood there a moment in disbelief, surveying the enemy before him, “I don’t believe you,”

“I don’t care” Nightmare replied as she kneed him the groin, releasing herself from his grip. She then wrapped an arm around the Sentinels neck, yanking him down enough to whisper into his ear.

“Who are you to come in here and question me?” She spat.

“I’m just here to avenge my brother,” the Sentinel gasped out then pushed himself into Nightmare and slammed her head against the wall. The force of the hit caused her to crash into the ground.

Nightmare sat there staring up with furrowed brows. Instead of fighting back she managed a simple question, “Adrian?”

Now it was Adrians turn to stare back with furrowed brows, “How do you— Who are you?”

Adrian noticed Nightmare glance towards he fallen gun and leapt for it before she could. He snatched the gun off the ground then swiveled around so it was pointing straight at Nightmare.

“Adrian, listen, I’m not who you think I am” she pleaded with him, her eyes locked on the gun.

“Oh really, so you didn’t try to kill my father, huh? Maybe it was someone else who has been messing with my team and has been hurting the Renegades? I guess it wasn’t you who killed my brother?” His voice cracked on the last word.

Adrian saw a tear roll down Nightmares cheek, “Adrian, I swear it wasn’t me. I never wanted to hurt Max—,” the gun went off before she could even finish.

The blood seeped through the front of her shirt and she fell to her knees clutching her stomach.

“Don’t you dare speak his name.” His voice wavered. Nightmare sunk to her side and laid within her own pool of blood.

Adrian crept up to her and crouched down enough to reach her mask and carefully slide it off to reveal her identity. The girl looking back at him made him jump.

“Nova?” The words escaped him as he took in what he had just done. He took off his helmet and knelt to her side, eyes darting helplessly around the cave looking for some sort of help.

“I’m so sorry,” she looked back with those familiar blue eyes, “I tried to save him”

“I don’t understand. You cant be Nightmare. It’s not possible.” He had trouble breathing as he watched the sea of red coming from her stomach spread at an alarming rate.

She smiled sorrowfully, “I always knew it would come to this. I guess I just hope that it might go differently. Like we could be happy, together.”

“I didn’t know” his body shook as he wept, “I didn’t know”

She reached her hand up to his cheek and brushed her thumb against his cheek while a steady stream of tears flowed from her eyes, “It’s alright, I don’t blame you”

Before he could respond her arm dropped to her side and her eyes went blank.

Ruby and Oscar arrived later to find Adrian holding Nova in his arms as he rocked back and forth whispering, “I’m sorry” until his voice grew coarse and he had no words left to say.
