I had a profound experience today. A member of my gallery died suddenly a couple weeks ago. The curator and I decided to use a large amount of wall space to memorialize her.
Her husband (also an artist), brought in all the work she had won awards for recently, and it fell to me to hang it on the wall.
I imagine that carefully arranging the work of someone who is dead might not be unusual for places like museums, but it was a unique experience to me.
There was something very personal and cathartic to it.
