Ancients Week 2025: Prompts and Rules

Welcome to Ancients Week 2025! This event will run from the 13th of July to the 19th of July, and is dedicated to Ancient elves and the time of the Ancients in KOTLC. Below are the prompt list and rules!

NO NSFW or explicitly sexual works allowed, for the comfort of fans of all ages. For this reason, minor x adult ships or incest are also not allowed.

All kinds of fanworks are welcome, including but not limited to: fanfiction, fanart, podfics, fansongs, poetry, playlists, web weaves, moodboards, memes, dashboard simulators, and practically anything else you can think of!

Feel free to skip days, mix prompts, do alternate days etc etc—you can do whatever you want with the list! Also feel free to post late! I will be checking the event tracktag regularly at least until the end of July :)

While there is no AO3 collection or anything of the sort for this event, know that you are very much allowed to crosspost your work to AO3 or Wattpad or what-have-you—it's your work, and you're the one who gets to choose where you want to put it.

Bronte and Fintan (Again) for Ancients Week

For day 8: free space, I did Bronte yelling at Fintan for not going ahead and telling the truth about his role in the Everblaze fires in San Diego. This would probably be the last time that he would show up as a friend and not a Councillor.

Fintan and Bronte for Ancients Week

This is for day 7: age/presence/future, because it is the young Fintan and Bronte appearances. The one on the bottom right is Fintan after the accident in his hospital/healing center clothing, and the hands are Bronte. His hair is short and uneven because of being scorched. Also, it's hard to see, but the lighter areas on his socks are supposed to be the grippy socks. I can't get over the Connor Murphy vibes that Bronte is giving in the bottom left one.

Luzia Vacker for Ancients Week

It's a little late, but I already made it and forgot to post it. This is Luzia Vacker trying to comfort her (a lot of greats) grand nephew. This was originally Sophie's Planting but could have been Alden's because it's for day 6 absence/death/mourning, and she probably would have showed up as support for the Vacker family (more likely for Alden's Planting than Sophie's so I'm going to say his planting). Fitz is mourning the loss of his father, meanwhile Luzia is feeling the absence of her son, who is said to have a bad relationship with her. Seeing Fitz care so much for one of his parents would remind Luzia that Orem would not feel as strongly about her as Fitz does for Alden.

Fintan for Ancients Week

This is for day 5 secrets/truth/lies. I wanted to do something I don't draw that often but also wanted to draw Fintan. Random, but the clothes he is wearing are stated to be bright red, and now I really want to draw him in the red boots from Kinky Boots. He would slay that. Also, this is the last thing he says before they start the memory break, or at least he acknowledges that they are going to.

I know that Shannon was planning on only making a trilogy, maybe 5 books, but dang. Fintan literally was just going to let everything else go to Brant. We could have never gottwn anymore Fintan content besides memories, like what we get with Kenric. That would have literally been horrible. It would have just transitioned to one of the other Neverseen members and then to the Elysian plot.

LIKE CAN YOU IMAGINE FINTAN'S THOUGHTS RIGHT AFTER HE REGAINED SANITY? "Oh, crap, now I actually have to figure out what to do with my life. Hey, you know what would be funny? Turning the people who ordered my mind break into smores. After all, I was not planning on living beyond this, so it doesn't really matter what happens after." No wonder we get an entirely different side of him like his personality was flipped. He literally decided that he would never form a coherent thought again, and then this barely even teenager drags him back to reality? I attended a theatre workshop one time by a guy whose name I forgot but basically, he was talking about how what makes villains is that they give themselves permission without asking for it. In Exile, Fintan had relinquished all of his ability to make choices for himself by keeping his pupil's secret. When he regained sanity, he had already gotten more than he thought he would, so Fintan gave himself permission for whatever he wanted from that point on. It is just a really cool juxtaposition from pre-mindbreak Fintan to post-healing Fintan. I think that's why his personality keeps changing so much throughout the series is because of how Fintan finally started to change at his healing after being practically stagnate for over a thousand years.

AND it ends...

Ancients Week 2024 has officially ended!

First off, many, many thanks to everyone who participated! The event, I'll be honest, got a far bigger response than I'd expected, especially since the Ancients are a bit of a niche within the KOTLC fandom. Thanks also to everyone who interacted with the various creations! I was very happy to see not just the tag, but also my dash, being quite Ancients-filled :D

Secondly, the end of the week, of course, does not stop you from making things for it! I for one will be checking the tag regularly for at least the rest of this week, and would honestly be delighted if I saw something there several months later. So if you have things planned but they're delayed, post them! That is completely fine :)

I'll wrap it up now: it's been an incredibly fun week, and I'm really looking forward to running it again next year! More details on that to follow later, but if you're interested, there will most likely be an Ancients Week 2025.
