Anders Freeman, 38, Security.“He smiled understandingly-much more than understandingly. It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced--or seemed to face--the whole eternal world for an instant, and then concentrated on you with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just as far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself, and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey.”

Luton! My daughter always wanted to visit England. I'd love to take her one day.

Oh, your accent made me curious. I don't often meet folk from different areas of the world.
I must admit,
England. Luton, if you want to be specific.

Why?

Definitely! Keeps the work place interesting, and it's much easier getting along with everyone, or so I find.

The pleasure's all mine, Alexander. I'm Anders Freeman. Do you mind me asking where you're from?
I must admit,
I have to agree with you on that. I think it’s a wonderful thing, though.

I’m Alexander Halsey, by the way.

It seems like there's more and more of us every day, doesn't there? I don't think I was here a full 24 hours before it was someone else's first day.

I must admit,
You and me both.

They probably just want to keep a closer eye on people if they're thought to be suicidal. Just in case.

And would you fall under category C) none of the above, and allowed to roam at will?
California's growing on me.
Sometimes. If we behave and/or aren’t thought to be either A) Suicidal—which is stupid. How could someone kill themselves with flowers? B) Run away.

You're allowed outside, though, right? I mean, it's not home, but... it's fresh air.
California's growing on me.
Maybe for you. You get to leave.

I really don’t know what I’m doing… I don’t. It’s terrible. I go in there and I learn how to be like the character and do the best I can, and that’s all I really do.

Anders Freeman ¬ 38 ¬ Security Guard ¬ FC: Leonardo DiCaprio ¬ Taken
As a child Anders had always been told he had a promising future. Born to Anne and John Freeman, a couple most of the people who knew them frowned upon, no one should have thought Anders would have amounted to anything and for a period in his life, he didn’t think he would either. Anders and his family never stayed in one place after all, normally living in poverty when they did stay somewhere. Sometimes Anders would go days without food, scrapping in the trashcans around town for something to eat. When they were lucky enough to have some spare cash his dad didn’t piss away on alcohol his mother would normally buy large canned goods that would last weeks at a time. When Anders father, John, felt like they’d stayed in a place for too long or the electricity company turned off the electricity or debt collectors came knocking his dad would take the family one of the more recent beat up cars they’d bought for at least $200 and take them to a new city.
Anders spent most of his life homeschooled by his mother who had once been a very successful woman before she’d had Anders, leaving him to live with John as her life slowly crashed. Most would think Anders lack of public school education would make him stupid but it was the exact opposite. A bright person; more advanced than most his age, his mother always told him when he was eighteen to leave and never come back. To make something out of his life and to not make the same mistakes she did. Anders would remember that conversation with his mother forever.
When Anders turned fifteen he and his family moved to Seattle, Washington. It was bigger than they normally went but his dad always told him it was good to hide in plain sight every once in awhile. Anders was sent to public school for a change but he didn’t bother with making friends or connections, he knew they would leave soon enough. They’d started moving more and more over the course of the last three years and Anders knew it was only a matter of time. But when his father went out for his usual vices he didn’t return and Anders knew things were going to change, may it be for the better or the worse.
Anders began making friends, his mother got a job, and things started looking up. But even then, his mother’s job at Wal-Mart wasn’t enough. Anders got a job in retail and began helping pay for bills, never wasting his money on himself. Thing quickly improved and Anders grades didn’t lack, as well. At the age of eighteen he graduated college with a 4.0. Unable to leave his mother alone Anders returned home, increasing his work shift to take care of her. Everything changed once again a year later when Anders attended a party that would change his life.
Anders was dating a lovely young woman of his age named Rebecca. Rebecca, like Anders, didn’t come from the best family and the two met at work when Anders and Rebecca began helping each other and their families out with money, food, shelter, etc. Their friendship quickly turned to something more and the two began dating. Three months later Rebecca and Anders went to one of their friend’s party where everything changed. Someone had tampered with Anders’ drink, drugging him, which brought him to doing senseless things he would have never done if he’d been sober. A month later Rebecca confessed to Anders that she was pregnant and the child was his.
When their daughter Emma was born Anders vowed to always be there for her, to give her a stable home unlike his father had done for him. While the couple loved their daughter dearly Anders could tell Rebecca never really grasped the concept of being a mother; she was unable to let go of her youth. As the weeks turned to a year Rebecca was hardly ever home and when she was she always had a cigarette between her lips and a paint brush in her hand. She’d ignore Emma’s cries and leave her for Anders to deal with, neglecting her family in order to live out her twenties freely. Because of this behavior it wasn’t a surprise to anyone when Rebecca left Anders and Emma, driving away with a man Anders had never met before, leaving him behind with a crying daughter in his arms. Leaving him a single parent.
Fast forward fifteen years to a wiser and older Anders Freeman and a fifteen year old Emma, as eager as any sixteen year old learning how to drive. Emma who had been begging her father for weeks to let her drive finally got her way Christmas Eve. Anders had been teaching her the basics for quite some time and had finally decided to take her out for a test run through the neighborhood. Little did he know the affectionate gesture would soon turn into a nightmare, ruining a girl’s life along the way. As Emma nervously made her way down the familiar neighborhood roads her confidence grew, it grew so much she began to relax more than she should have and before she knew it the car was skidding along the icy roads, hitting a tiny black car in the process.
Riddled with guilt Anders took the blame, telling the police he had been driving and had accidently hit the girl—Catherine Martin, they called her—and would pay for any hospital bills or damages. Once out of surgery the Doctors confronted Anders as he was the only person around to care for Catherine, telling him she would remain comatose for an unknown amount of time. Catherine’s records told Anders nothing about her family and the hospital bills demanded paying so knowing it was his fault, Anders paid for the bills, visiting the blonde every day.
A year past and she showed no sign of waking. The Doctors said it was possible that she could hear him so Anders talked to her. He spent hours with the stranger that had been thrust into his life, talking to her about the simplest things. As the first year moved on the Doctors explained to Anders that it was highly unlike she’d ever wake up and they needed the machines for other patients, the room for other patients. They couldn’t keep her forever. But of course, as stubborn as always, Anders refused to let her go. The Doctors worked with Anders and helped him transfer Catherine to a hospital in California where there was room for her.
Emma understood why Anders felt the way he did and even she was riddled with guilt but she had to stay in Seattle and Anders couldn’t just let Catherine go. She had no one, Emma had family. Anders didn’t want to admit this, though, and it ended up with Emma leaving him to go live with her mother. Anders promised to call her and send her money, to visit whenever he could, and Emma understood. So following Catherine to California he did the only thing he could do—wait.
Two more years past and the bills were piling up, Anders knew he couldn’t keep paying for her but part of him refused to give up. He didn’t want to give up on the woman he’d felt like he knew more than himself. Finally Anders knew it was time for Catherine to go. Her time had been long overdue—for all he knew she had been long gone the moment she was hit with the car. But part of him fought that idea. Nevertheless, turning his back to her Anders let the nurses in, walking towards the hospital exit as they began shutting off the machines keeping her alive. Anders had never been one to believe in miracles but one happened that day and he can’t deny it. Walking towards the exit Anders paused as a nurse sprinted towards him, screaming as loud as she could, shoving past the people around her to reach him. “She’s alive! She’s awake!” She screamed.
Knowing he couldn’t stick around with her, knowing Catherine hadn’t the faintest idea of who he was, he left. Anders knew he couldn’t go back to Seattle, either, not yet. He wanted to stick around in case the nurses called him. So getting the best job he could find Anders applied as a security guard at Rosewood Asylum. The pay was decent and the job was interesting. Little did he know the path he chose would bring him back to Catherine who has recently been admitted as a patient.
