Cosplay & Sewing Blog
179 posts
I am a nerdy physicist who makes clothes and cosplays. This blog started when I was making my Celes inspired wedding dress (commission art in the header and profile is from @fierceferrets) but now I just reblog sewing and cosplay stuff, and post updates on my cosplays.

In honor of the release of Lunar Remastered, I'm redoing a Luna cosplay.
I'm trying to think of a good way to make the ponytail sock thing. When I first did a Luna cosplay many years ago, I thought the hat and ponytail part were one long scarf wrapped around her head and hair. But now I'm pretty sure they are two separate pieces. I'm working on the top part first, but is the second part a scarf that is tied or is it more like a cylinder with elastic at both ends? (What would be easier to make and wear?)

Because of Lunar remaster coming out, I want to remake my Luna cosplay. My previous one in like 2014 was hobbled together with old clothes, pillow cases, and a T-shirt (and lots of glue since I ran out of time):

I have improved a lot since then and also just bought a lot of fabric at Joanns.
One thing is, I'm trying to figure out if the dress is like an A-line skirt that just poofs out? Maybe I need some horsehair braid to stiffen it? It could just be because she's moving but I feel like her dress always fans out in different images like this one:

But doesn't have any sort of rippling of the fabric. It could just be animation but I wonder if there is a better dress silhouette to consider to have it open up that wide?

At some point I want to do a Sakura Kinomoto cosplay. She has so many fun outfits. However, in the mean time, I think I may start by trying to build each staff.
Which one should I start with?
The Sealing Wand (1), the Star Staff (2), The Dream Staff

Alternatively, since the base of the staff is relatively the same, make a common base with tops I can screw on/off depending on what I want to do. May need to play with this a bit because the connection points look pretty different. The last two I think would be pretty easy to have a top screw on, but the sealing wand looks like it flares out a bit at the connecting point.

Finished another pair of gloves last week, this time in dark brown leather from ItalianSkins and sewn up with some olive green silk thread that was a very lucky thrift store find. (It was in a mixed baggie and I didn't know it was silk until I got home!)
In my glove video I mentioned wanting to re-draw my pattern so the fingers are angled in more tightly, and so the thumb piece is longer, and I did that for these. The thumb fits much better, and the bases of the fingers are no longer too loose.
I also tried the straighter style of fourchettes, but didn't like them as much as the V shaped ones. I think the curved edges put a bit too much material onto the backs of the fingers and made them wrinklier. (Though this particular leather is not the stretchiest, so it may be better with a stretchier one.)
I did 3 rows of feather stitch on the back of the hand, since I'd seen that on an extant pair and thought it looked nice. I used a regular needle for that part because I was worried a leather needle would damage the thread.

Photos from Saturday! I got to the CR meet up late. But someone gave me a Vex braclet!
The Captain American on a motorcycle almost had an unfortunate crash that we all almost caught on camera. No crash though.

I've been hand sewing these 34 panels for a cosplay. Gonna finish the neckline, add the bells, then add visual details after.

I am thinking of working some more on a cosplay I started months ago and then haven't touched. It was a Jester Lavorre/Sailor Senshi cross over I posted about. But I'm thinking about my body shape and how I would look and feel in it. I mean, I'm definitely gonna make the skirt longer for one. But I guess my main issue is idk what to do about the v-shape where the skirt meets the leotard. I don't think it would look good for me with my stomach and I don't think I would feel good seeing myself in that. Idk what to do. I can try to get a little bit more creative with the shape on my body. I just also think a straight across waist line would look weird for the costume.
Maybe I need to take some full body photos of myself and draw on top of them to really get an idea for what I would like on me?
My Vex cosplay I feel like I liked some views of but then I also didn't like how it looked with my body shape and I got kinda sad seeing the one full body photo I took and the photos of me in the CR meet up. I just don't want to be sad about it again this year.

I’m sorry, I can’t come into work today. I didn’t get a long rest and god gave me a point of exhaustion. All my skill checks are at disadvantage.

Trying to make a Sailor Jester (lv 1) cosplay. So far I have the chest bow and collar and I'm working on the brooch. I am using a cut out from Ginny Di Traveler Pumpkin design. I printed two sizes because I think the first was too small. Next I will try making the brooch out of EVA foam. I also included designs for other possible brooches or adornments.
Skirt should be blue like Jester's outfit? Or match the collar like a sailor senshi? I included the original artwork of Jester with my designs
Feedback welcome!
