Through the UMD school of music, I was able to watch films by early 20th Spanish filmmakers. It was a very interesting experience due to the content of the films. The films were very bizarre in content. Overall it was a very interesting and enjoyable experience.

I was able to go to a LP release party by my professor in NYC. He talked about the process as well as gave a presentation of what it's like to be a musician. It was very interesting and eye opening. Unfortunately, because I didn't get a picture of him speaking, this picture of a bassoon in the same venue is the best I've got.

I went to a clarinet recital tonight. I got to hear a lot of music that I’d never hear before. As a fellow clarinetist, it was very interesting to hear these unfamiliar works. I learned a lot and really enjoyed the experience.

I went to see University of Maryland’s Wind Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. This just so happened to be as part of the Kurt Weill Festival. As a classically trained musician, it was very interesting hearing this music, as it was very different from anything I’d heard before. I really enjoyed hearing the music of a different culture.

I went to see the national ballet of china at the kennedy center. It was really interesting to see art from another culture. The ballet had a combination of western and eastern influences which was also very interesting. Being able to have this opportunity to view this was amazing.

As I am performing at commencement, I was lucky enough to be able to go to a rehearsal for commencement. There I was able to listen to the speaker for the engineering school rehearse his speech before giving it on the official commencement date. He talked a lot about how engineering is the future. It almost made me want to switch to an engineering major.

I played at the UMRO concert. I played principal clarinet on half of Dvorak 6. I improved my teamwork skills because orchestral music is all about working as a team. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience.

I went to a production of oliver from my high school. It was interesting to see cause I don’t usually go to see musicals. The plot was a little hard to follow at times, but still interesting.

I went to the art gallery in Art-Sociology to see some student artwork. There was a lot of different artwork in different genres. It was more or less a collection of all sorts of featured student artwork. The art tended to lean more towards photo-esque stuff, but was still varied.

I went to a concert featuring UMSO, one of the choirs, and the opera studio. They performed Kurt Weill’s The Road of Promise. It was essentially a lot of biblical stories transformed into operatic overtures. Additionally, they were joined by several alumni of the opera studio.

Pentathlon event 1:

This was a trumpet recital of one of the masters students in the trumpet studio at UMD. The trumpet player is Brent Flinchbaugh, a middle school band director and orchestral trumpet player. This recital was accompanied by piano, and had guest artists including a trombone and violin player. The music was generally contemporary, with all music from 1932 and after.

The concept of a silent disco was somewhat familiar to me in theory, but in practice was a completely new concept. My favorite experience was definitely the silent disco, because I was able to experience a similar experience to a normal disco, but I could listen at a volume which wasn’t damaging to my ears, which as a music major was a very nice thing to not fear that. It was also really cool being able to choose which song to listen to, and taking off my headphones and hearing multiple choruses go at the same time was a very unique experience. The Soul Rebels and Early Eyes could relate to the theme of Migration, because in order to be successful in a band, you have to travel around, like how they traveled to the Clarice to perform at nextnow fest.
