How to keep sea-monkeys alive
From Mike Monteiro’s Good News:
“And before you write your “well, actually” response… you can’t get mad at people for conflating all the different types of AI, when you purposely threw them all together to build your hype cycle. You did this to yourselves.”

CleanShot X for Mac Goes to 4.8
Just yesterday I had to cancel my SetApp subscription – can’t justify the cost for the one or two apps I mostly use – CleanShot X and Downie. So I went ahead and purchased the apps from the corresponding developer’s websites. As for Downie, it does what it does so well.
However, CleanShot X also continues to amaze! I started to use it way back in November of 2021 and they update the app quite regularly. I wasn’t expecting that, after purchasing it, the next day they would release some new features. Hello version 4.8! Just a solid screenshot program that is just so useful and worth every penny (there is a student/educator discount as well).
Capture your Mac’s screen like a pro.

How Convenience Kills Curiosity
I’ve been thinking about our time saving, efficiency oriented gadgets and software – Joan Westenberg nails it…
We don’t need more information. We have oceans of it. What we need are tools that reintroduce friction in thoughtful ways.

Greetings From Wordland
This is a quick (somewhat geeky) post about using a service called Wordland, a writing tool that provides a proper text editor for writing posts instead of “tiny little boxes”. Dave has a little more on the idea behind Wordland at his site. It connects to your WordPress.com account and lets you post to whatever blogs you have set up. Mine is at andyrush.wordpress.com.
I had some difficulty using it in the Safari browser. I couldn’t get links to work which is pretty crucial on the web! Also, attempting to add an image resulted in, well, nothing. I’m using the Brave browser to write this.
Anyway, quick diversion. Back to our regular microblogging

Fediwall: Social media wall for the Fediverse
Does anyone remember TwitterCamp? I was an Adobe Air apllication that displayed tweets of a specific parameter, like a user name or hashtag. We used it on a big screen in the lobby for Faculty Academy at the University of mary Washington all the way back in 2008. Anyone who tweeted using the hashtag #FacultyAcademy would get their posts included on the big screen.
Well, I recently discovered Fediwall which seems to be something that looks very similar to TwitterCamp, only for the Fediverse. I’ve just started playing with it but it could serve conferences who want to move to federated social media, as way to encourage attendees to share their Fediverse findings.

Daring Fireball: Golfo del Gringo Loco
I think John Gruber has the right take on a relatively unimportant topic (or perhaps I should say, not the uppermost priority) that also serves as one of Trump’s classic examples of distraction.
Daring Fireball: Golfo del Gringo Loco
There are other places around the world where Apple and Google show downright crazy or incorrect things on maps. The latter have one thing in common: they are to comply with the demands of countries governed by thin-skinned autocratic men who surround themselves with sycophants.
