I don't think you guys really understand.
In the beginning, I also didn't like Jason, first though I had reading The Lost Hero was "Who the hell is this guy?" and "Where's Percy???". And I felt extremly defensive thinking that this Jason guy was trying to replace our dear Percy that we love so much.
Then, bit by bit I started to see what a great person he was just on the first book. Helping Piper when she got hurt, rensuring Leo as he knows of his low-esteem problems so helps him to see what a great guy he truly is.
And when I realize, Jason became a really fond character for me, because I could relate so much to him. Having people judge him from the outside without even trying to meet him first, all because of the status that the people gave him, something he himself didn't chose. Being a genuine good person that tried his best to help others and having that seeing as almost banal. Always being comparate to Percy, something that he could never win because we grown up with Percy, not him. So he'll never be chosen. A powerfull Demigod, a great friend, a good person, but always "never good enough".
So when Rick killed him like it was nothing. Like his existence may as well never had existed. When his girlfriend, the person who he loved didn't chose him. A sister, his only family, being so distant that they barely know each other. His best friend, who he never got to see again, the emotion of loneliness he must have felt. His own camp that replaced him like he was never there, Jason Grace "the son of the King of the Gods", the only that mattered, not him. Not Jason.
And seeing all the hate he recives from the fandom to a character that it's so like me. His sad death it's not just a ending of a character. It's also a stab in my heart, a painfull voice that tells me that no matter how a good person you try to be, it's doesn't matter because if you're not impressive like Percy, smart like Annabeth, unique like Nico and such others things. You're easily replaceble.
So yeah. I really like Jason Grace, the guy that could never win but still tried his best every single time until his death.
(Excuse me for grammar errors, english is not my first language)
