The Angel of Reckoning - Introduction

Get a Pokémon from the professor. Battle a rival. Collect eight badges. Defeat the Champion.

Ever since losing her father five years ago, Olivia Mistbloom has had one wish: follow the path of the typical protagonist. The protagonist’s story always ends in accomplishing their dreams, after all, and it is her dream of her father coming back that she has held on to more than anything. If she could just reach the end of that story, her wish would be granted.

It would… wouldn’t it? Would her adventure be worth it?

Matt Chiaki experienced losses five years ago, too. The grandson of a legendary adventurer, he went on an adventure of his own that ended up causing him terrible injuries, forcing him to replace a significant amount of his body with cybernetics, and saw multiple people - including Olivia’s father - die. To him, the adventure wasn’t worth it. No adventure is anymore. Yet he sets out anew, guiding Olivia as her father had asked him to, and searching for the answer to a question at the core of his losses by challenging Johto’s new Battle Frontier.

Coming into both of their stories is Nekou, a boisterous and outgoing woman who wishes only to live in comfort. Although she brings friendship and encouragement to the two, there are secrets none of the people around her know. A history shrouded in questions. A darkness hidden deep inside of her that could threaten everything she, and they, hold dear. 

Little do they know, the pages on which their stories are to be written are in danger of being burned around them. On one side is Team Rocket, the once-mighty crime syndicate now reduced to a tiny number of members in the wake of their conflict with Team Plasma in the Unova region. On the other, the cult known as Polaris. A terrifyingly far-reaching and personal threat to Matt, Olivia, Nekou and their families and friends, Polaris’s true agenda could bring the end of not only their stories, but the stories of all on the planet.

I am strongly considering publishing chapters here as well, broken up into multiple posts for convenience.

Because of unforeseen circumstances, the focus of where the stories are posted is going to shift away from AO3. For the time being this means that brand new chapters may face significant delays while revision of old chapters is caught up on.

Changing Mr. Pokémon's characterization is a major thing I have to do in the revisions. Even though he's only in one chapter, his portrayal was meant as a parody and homage to a character whose humor has aged terribly and no longer can be viewed in the originally intended light.

I've begun working on a new, detailed outline for The Victory Star of Fate Retake that will serve as a "bible" for its setting, characters and story.

While Olivia and Sheena both have meaningful progress to make in chapter 35, the main focus is on Matt and Nekou finally working together on even footing now that the secrets have been fully revealed.

The company that manufactures Rotom Phones and associated devices and software is named RotoBerry. This name is a play on both BlackBerry, device that served as a predecessor to modern smartphones, and Apple, manufacturers of the iPhone.

Food is Nekou's love language, but she can't express it because she's a terrible chef, so sharing food is the only way she can do it.

"Beyond the Reveal Glass"

Working together with Team Rocket, Matt and Nekou go to Pewter City's museum. A powerful item is being donated there, and both Team Rocket and Polaris have their eyes on it. However, the reappearance of an old enemy causes the conflict to escalate. Meanwhile, Olivia and Anabel visit Lavender Town, where Olivia battles Gym Leader Erika.

🧊 - Is their current design the first one? For Olivia.

Oh, far from it. Just within The Angel of Reckoning alone, Olivia has had at least three or four designs:

-The blue leather jacket with red boots she had for a long time

-Black-and-red jacket and short hair

-Same as above, but with sunglasses and Team Rocket cap

-In the original version of the story, she had a completely different design in the early chapters with a cape, shoulder armor and much more elaborate hairstyle

There were also some prototype designs that were discarded, such as an outfit intended to be in the Sweet Lolita style that incorporated a strawberry-pattern print. This design didn't get very far in development before being abandoned.

In earlier stories set when she was a younger age, she had a few different designs loosely based on the character Taylor from Pokémon Battle Revolution.
