Oxford Literary Sites - Ashmolean Museum
“Oxford is full of ghosts. The poet Edward Thomas, writing about Oxford in 1903, declared that, ‘the past and the dead have here, as it were, a corporate life. They are an influence, an authority; they create and legislate to-day…the city and all its component ages speak out…as I walk, I seem to be in the living past." — Miranda Ward
Writer: Make a pilgrimage to at least three of these literary sites.  Oxford is beautiful and historical; let your journeys also be a walks of discovery.
Choose one of your visited sites: Make notes and record your impressions.  Write about the place.  Share your experience and writing with the class.
My first impression upon arriving to the Ashmolean Museum was it seemed magnificent. The building is old yet well taken care of, towering over their audience. After a peak at their mission statement, it mainly focused on education and research for the University of Oxford itself and less on the enlightenment of the public, despite being free. In summation, the trip was satisfactory. Upon entering, we are given three choices in which direction to start off in. While antiquities was least crowded, being the most open corridor with decent lighting for the statues, most crowded was the lower levels where the gift shop and cafe were located. The ambience, from ground to upper floors reflected a somber atmosphere, respectfully so, which is logical as no one should be acting out in a place of culture and academics. However, it is the underlying tone of respect for the work itself that permeates the rooms. With much of their audience made up of tourists, students, and/or adults, though they insist they cater to researchers and the students of Oxford, desiring to enlighten the public, they seem to expect the public take little interest in the collection with the short explanations for just about every artifact and piece displayed.

09/04/23 || Sunday
My posts may decrease in frequency, I'm entering the 3 weeks before exams period, and god I hate it. It's so hectic, all assignments and lab reports and projects creeping up all the while we have no time to even breathe. And then we're expected to study for the exams alongside it.
Anyways, enjoy these pretty purple flowers on my way to the library, at least they make my day a little brighter
