Cranity / Roxy Urquiza Flores
What caught my eye was the bright colors used in their pieces. Roxy states on their about page that they are a Mexican born artist, and the bright colors used in their work are influenced by their cultural background. Their understanding of color is masterful, as the colors are bright but the pieces are fun to look at. These neon colors shine through in both their printmaking and illustration work. Their poses are also very interesting, and the compositions are balanced and intriguing. Their website is linked below.

hant.art_ / Hant
According to their social media, Hant is an 18 year old self taught artist. It’s incredible that they’re self taught because their color theory is amazing! I admire how their pieces are so busy but still so aesthetically pleasing. I would describe their work as ravecore, a style I was trying to achieve for a long time. Their work has soft lines, which contrasts with the more hectic details around the main figure. They don’t have a portfolio, so their caard is linked below as well as some photos from their Instagram.

I love their work. The soft and rough brush strokes mix together so well to create smooth flow to their work. A lot of their work is humorous, but that doesn’t take away from their talent. I am also envious of their understanding of color theory, as with all of the other artists in my journal. I admire how they take well known characters and stylize them! They don’t have a website or a shop, so their Instagram is linked below, along with photos from their page.

I feel like their style is somewhat a sister style to mine. I love the way they handle a pencil, and how the difference in lineweight really adds to their sketches and doodles. I also really love the maximalist designs in their pieces, and there’s always something new to look at. They also do tattoo flash that are very unique, one of a kind designs. They don’t have a website or portfolio, so attached is their instagram and a few photos from it! Wow, I really love their work, and I’m glad I found their page.

Crvptozoology/ Court
When I saw that this artist painted Carrie, I knew I had to include them. Court is a multimedia artist based out of Maine, who’s topics of choice are queerness and horror. I like both of those topics too, so I relate to them. By looking at the work they have on their online shop, they have a very good grasp on color and light, something I hope to achieve. I really like their simple sticker designs, too! Below are some pieces I really liked from their instagram, and a cute sticker from their shop.

Ouhie
I know very about Ouhie, as they don’t have any sort of website or portfolio, but they do sell prints. Their work is so dreamlike. It looks like an illustration that has screen printing over it. Even more impressively is that I think they draw digitally. Their use of color is masterful, and their style is so unique. It’s admirable how they have a slightly historical feel while still being stylized.

There isn’t a lot of information on this artist, but I really like the maximalist early 2000s feeling of their work. The only thing I know about them is that they are 16 and run a charity to make art supplies more accessible across the country. Their work is busy, and almost looks like the sketches that fashion designers make. I love the bright colors that they use and the webcore vibe. They don’t have a portfolio, but below their shop is linked and a few pieces from their instagram are shown.

Tasia M S
I’ve followed Tasia for a very long time. Her work is so soft and dreamy, as well as influenced by historical items and art. In her about page, she states that she is a illustrator and concept designer, and that is evident in her drawings based off of historical objects. She doesn’t have any titles in her portfolio either, but I’ve included some of my favorite pieces of hers. I hope to replicate the dreamy, elegant feeling of her work in my own, along with the skillful digital technique.

HouseGoblin / Ash
Ash is a NY based illustrator, designer, and comic artist who draws funny little animals. Although very different from my art, I love the rigidness of their work. I also really enjoy how they use all sorts of different color pallets. They created a comic called “Let’s Get Burgers” in a very nice sketchy style. Although they don’t have the titles of their works on their website, I really like the illustration of the nervous cat at the halloween party the most. There’s so much to look at, and I like the maximalism.

Odd Rabbits / Marlowe
I first found Marlowe scrolling through Twitter, and the colors in their works immediately stood out to me. According to their website, “Hello! I'm Marlowe, a Japanese, Jewish illustrator and maker based in Seattle, WA and Providence, RI. I'm the creator of Odd Rabbits, a magical world of rabbits, angels and spirits”. Just the short artist statement alone evokes so much whimsy! I really like the idea of a whole world full of magical rabbits. Their website didn’t include any information about their work, but I included a few of my favorites below. I love the vibrant colors and maximalism. I hope to incorporate that into my own work.

Born on July 24, 1860, which means he is a Leo, Alphonse Mucha is one of, if not the most prolific art nouveau artists. He studied art all across Europe, and became the resident artist for actress Sarah Bernhardt. Mucha made all of the posters for her shows, which became very popular on their own. Although he was Czech, his art exhibited the peak of French art nouveau.
The thick lines outlining his figures make them pop, along with the swirling, whimsical lines that art nouveau is known for. His poses are also dynamic and he often conquered difficult angles. That is something I aspire to do, as Mucha often played with the concept of foreshortening.
Some articles that talk about him:

Roger K. Furse isn’t a prolific artist, but I really like some of his pieces. I found out about him from his portrait of actress Vivien Leigh that was sold at an estate sale. He seemed to be a close friend indeed, since most of his available body of work are of her. His work looks both academic and impressionist, new and old. I like the looseness of his work but the confidence of his lines. He knew that sometimes less is more, and sometimes more is more! He was mostly known for his set design and costume design, but I like his portraiture.
Here is some information about him:

Joëlle is a Dutch artist living in Germany according to their Patreon. Their Patreon is the only resource I could find about them besides social media, but their art is so good that I still wanted to showcase it here. I found them on Twitter going by the name Dove. They post erotica, but they also make art that doesn’t have explicit nudity. No matter what, their talent can’t be overlooked. According to their Twitter, they word traditionally, which is amazing considering their art is so clean that it looks digital. Despite problematic subjects, their art is so beautiful.

Marlowe Lune is an artist I found on Twitter. Based in Maryland, their website says they are inspired by historical work and fairy tales, which is evident in their body of work. They are queer and non-binary, which is something I relate too, and something I can also see in their art. Some of their art tends to bend the gender binary, which is a theme I adore. One of their clients is even HarperCollins, and they have an agent!
Some resources about them:
Works shown in order:

Although different from the other artists showcased here, I chose Naoko Takeuchi for her consistency of style. Born in Japan in 1967, Naoko is the creator of Sailor Moon. I love Sailor Moon so much, it’s just such a feel good anime and manga. The style is so bubbly and bright that it makes your heart swell with nostalgia. Takeuchi’s style is very consistent in all of her work, which is something I strive for. For some reason, having a consistent style is difficult for me. If you haven’t seen Sailor Moon and want to watch something happy, I recommend it.

Alexsandr Petrov is a Russian animator born in 1957, who moved to Canada shortly after his career began. He is known for his oil painted animations, where every frame is a different painting. I found him through TikTok, where someone posted a clip from his film Rusalka. It’s so beautiful, and I can’t imagine the dedication it takes to paint every single frame of an animation. His style is very loose, which I think is necessary due to it being animated. Although he never made any stand alone pieces to my knowledge, his films can be appreciated just as much.
Here a few links to his animations:

William-Adolphe Bouguereau has been one of my favorite artists since I was about fourteen. He is a symbol of the height of neoclassicism. Born in France in 1825, his work was a common sight in the Paris Academic Salons. Art critics praised him, and he was very well loved in society for his academic style. His work always looks so smooth and beautiful. I saw one of his paintings in real life, and it is difficult to see the brushstrokes. That shows his amount of talent. His work is like butter, creamy and light. I hope to be as versed in oil paint some day.
Some articles about him:
Works in order:
“The Virgin Lamb” 1903
“All Saints Day” 1859
“Young Shepherdess” 1868
